Riad Djemanna

We enjoyed my stay at this riad. The staff was incredibly friendly and the rooms were very cozy. It's a bit unusual that the rooms don't have a lock, but this riad exudes a sense of trust (justifiably so), so I had no reason to worry. However, there was a problem with the riad's inability to accept card payments, but it's not a big deal. It's possible the problem was only on that day, but it needs to be taken into account. Also I definitely recommend the hammam. You won't regret it.

We stayed for 5 nights, the first of which was diabolical, hence this rating had been done based on the remaining 4 nights once we had been re-roomed and service recovery had been actioned. The staff were great, the room was clean and comfortable and the Riad was well positioned to the Taxi Rank and the Souk/el Fnaa Square.

We were not collected from the airport as was pre-arranged upon booking. The first night we were roomed in a canvas tent on the rooftop. It had no formal door, no cupboards, no towel rails or hooks and no safe. That night there was a torrential downpour of rain and the water flooded our room completely saturating the carpets. The roof also leaked. The noise of the rain hitting the tent was unbearable, so to say we had a dismal start to our holiday is an understatement. The Riad could not immediately re-room us as they were fully booked, so the manager offered to find accommodation at an alternative Riad for the night which unfortunately required an 11 minute walk through the Medina. That wasn't possible due to the downpour, so we gritted our teeth and remained put. The next day we were re-roomed and were quite happy thereafter. In lieu of our poor initial experience the Manager provided us with free Hamman Massages, free Taxi transfer to the airport home, complimentary water/tea/coffee for the duration of our stay and waived out taxes upon check out. Having worked in the service industry I am aware that in the event of a service failure, effective recovery is what matters most and in this instance, I'm pleased to say that process was a success. Therefore I have deducted 2 points for the original night's debacle.

Friendly staff

Location was not what we expected. The Riad is located down many alleyways, final alleyway to Riad door covered in animal faeces and a terrible smell. The continental breakfast was extremely poor , noting like the photo on the website suggests, 1 overripe banana was the fruit offered. We didn’t stay for breakfast after the first morning. The bed room was dark with no windows. The Riad is very tired looking, it needs an uplift, the photos on the website very deceiving. It is overpriced for the facilities you can use.Nobody spoke English.
