Large historic lodge. Nice rooms and great food in the evening. Breakfast was very good and the staff was very friendly and helpful.

The highlight of our stay was the exceptional service from Calum. We had a few issues with our rooms allocation, but he went above and beyond to find solutions on both nights we stayed. His professionalism and willingness to help really made the difference. The food was excellent throughout our stay, easily one of the best aspects of the hotel. All staff were friendly and welcoming. The hotel itself is a beautiful historic building that has been very well maintained and has plenty of character. The mattress was very comfortable and the shower had excellent water pressure.

The standard double room available through Booking.com was too small for one adult and one child, mainly because of the bed size. There were no rollaway beds available, so if you are travelling with a child or are a larger person, it is worth booking one room per person or choosing the Superior Double, which has a larger bed. Unfortunately, we stayed during an exceptional heatwave, so the lack of air conditioning made the room warm. This was more a consequence of the unusually hot weather than a fault of the hotel, but it is worth bearing in mind if you visit during very warm periods. Our rooms also overlooked the street, which was noisy due to frequent loud cars passing by. If you are a light sleeper, I would recommend bringing earplugs. Some rooms have two steps between the bed and the bathroom. They add to the character of the historic building, but they could be inconvenient or a trip hazard if you need to use the toilet during the night, especially in low light.

Generally very pleasant. The staff were very polite and accommodating. The room was a little smaller than we are used to, but is was comfortable and clean. Great location with just a short walk into the village and Sherwood Forest. Dinner was surprisingly good in the pub restaurant.

Breakfast was okay.
