River Place Manor

Breakfast was very good with good service. The room was spacious and modern. Location very pleasant right next to the Orange river.

The iron staircase to the first level suite was somewhat steep and narrow, especially for elderly people. This is not to be expected from a five-star establishment.

We stayed in one of the suites, and the room was exceptionally spacious, comfortable and generally well presented. The bed was comfortable, and the staff at reception were professional and helpful. We needed to leave early the next morning, and they kindly prepared breakfast for us in advance. It was perfectly acceptable, although not exceptional. We also had dinner at the property, and the lamb shank was excellent and very good value for money. The setting next to the river is pleasant and has a lot of potential.

My main concern is value for money. The property feels slightly overpriced for what you receive, particularly at the upper end of their room offering. Nothing was seriously wrong, but there are a number of smaller maintenance and presentation issues that could be improved. For example, the couch in our room was showing some wear, and some areas of the property could receive a little more attention. The riverside area could also be managed better. Opening the umbrellas and removing the covers from the outdoor chairs and couches in the late afternoon would create a much more inviting atmosphere. Overall, it was not a bad stay, but I would probably choose another property next time simply because I do not feel it currently offers particularly good value for money.
