Maybe because the high humidity in the area, the room spells very old. The furnitures are old as well.

There was a laundry and a private onsen which didn't require booking. The parking was free.

The amenities were great (free green tea + coffee + water in the dining hall; snacks that you could purchase for less than ¥250 each; shampoo/conditioner/body wash in the bathroom and the onsen; onsen robe + towels). The facilities were very nice (lounge area adjacent to reception + the onsen is private and available for 30-minute periods with a beautiful view of the river and forest). Also, the hotel isn’t far from some key attractions (15-min walk to Toshogu shrine and adjacent shrines, 5-min walk to Kanmangafuchi Abyss). You can purchase breakfast the night before for ¥2000 and it includes three slices of toast, a plate of fruit, a boiled egg, and a free choice of drinks (tea/orange juice/milk) and jams. The staff were very friendly and helpful; I was late checking in because I was stuck on a mountain, but staff were very accommodating AND, most importantly, were so helpful and kind and called emergency services for me because I was struggling to get in contact with them. Because of staff at Turtle Inn, I managed to get down from the mountain safely and enjoyed my night at their hotel. I’m very grateful. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Walkable location to Toshogu Shrine and related attractions. Quiet neighborhood. Onsen bath available for private use (on 1st-come-1st-serve basis). Newer building. Nice dinner at nearby Bell Cafe.

Minimal facilities, with few of the gracious touches that can make a ryokan experience special. Definitely feels like a hostel focused on foreign tourists. Only one onsen bath, always occupied when we wanted to use it in the evening (we got in the next morning), water cooler than typical onsens (for foreign tourists?). Opened window of our river-facing room to enjoy sound of rushing water, but overpowering smell of fuel exhaust from onsen area forced us to close it.
