La Vista Hakodate Bay

Love the onsen. The coffee machine. The vibe. The space

Hotel location is great, walking distance to the station and the red brick warehouses are just next door. There was a surprise of having a selection of restaurants right outside the hotel in a little courtyard, they were very nice especially the yakiniku and ramen place. 15 minute walk to the ropeway (recommend going at sunset) for the best views. The bedroom was nice, the view was amazing which was the bay and Mt Hakodate however I did find it a bit small. The platform around the bed made the room even smaller and did result in a bruised shin when using the toilet at night as I misjudged how much space it took up. The cleanliness of the room could also be improved, it was a little dusty like the light fittings by the bed. The highlight/absolutely gem of this hotel are the public onsens on the 13th floor (code required to access the female space which is a nice safety feature). They are large, clean and spacious, there are 6 different onsens to choose from. The outside ones have an amazing view of the city especially at night. There is also a sauna and cold plunge (and free ice lollies for after!). The Family Mart by reception was super convenient.

A great choice of food was available with generous quantities for breakfast. Fabulous view from our room. Good size room with a window that could open. A gallery with interesting local history was part of the reception area.

Body moisturising lotions in the change area post onsen would be useful. Better lighting in the onsen/bathing area would be useful.

Fantastic location, right next to the red brick warehouse and dock. Easily accessible to most of the attractions in Hakodate. Friendly staff, good variety and yummy buffet spread and free ramen at night.

Carpeted room was extremely dusty, with dust bunnies in all the corners, one of the room toilet smelled really bad. Pretty aged hotel, cleanliness could definitely be improved. Staff was kind enough to offer a free upgrade to a tatami room which is slightly cleaner since it does not trap as much dust as carpets. But still spotted odd stains on the walls, dust spots on the bedsheet, and my travelling companion had a rash outbreak after staying for a night.
