I stayed at Hostal Nuevo Colon in Barcelona for 2 nights. The location was convenient, close to many places that are worth visiting during a trip to the city. Considering the prices in Barcelona, I would say it was a fair price-performance option for a private room. The staff were also kind. Having a sink inside the room was an advantage, and the ceiling fan was useful. I wouldn’t say the room was extremely spotless, but it was generally acceptable. The shared showers were comfortable to use. The shared toilets were fine.
The biggest downside for me was that the room faced the inner part of the building instead of the street, so when you looked out of the window, you were looking into the building courtyard, which did not feel very pleasant. Another disadvantage was that my room was next to the reception area, and the wall did not block sound well. Even when the receptionist was not being particularly loud, I could still hear almost everything from the room throughout the night. It gave the room a bit more of a hostel feeling, especially when guests asked questions at the desk.
