The location is handy for the zoo and Chester city

The beds were hard, staff were Rude, stunk of weed, homeless drunk people walking around, no hot water for shower in room, room very basic, pool flooring was dangerous, changing rooms cold, towels like sandpaper and small. Breakfast very simple. Not off standard to what you are booking. I would avoid.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. 10 minute drive to town centre.

The facade is very run down. It smelled very strongly of cigarette smoke. On the last night of our stay the toilet leaked raw sewage into the bathroom.

Absolutely appalling it was an amazing survival experience

Dump on the wall freezing with the cold windows wouldn’t close properly noise coming from the top unfree in the middle of the night all night

It was literally haunted room was very spacious cold not very comforting

The breakfast was amazing and the staff couldn’t do enough for us It was welcoming and the room was stunning It was out 10th wedding anniversary there was balloons and champagne compliments of the hotel This place is very special I would give this hotel a ten out of ten The pool and sauna is relaxing

TV signal was weak and not watchable. Bedside lights didnt work all the time. The hotel is clean and tidy but looking tired. Nice old manor house, which has a massive 70's building extention over most of it. Very good hot water, a bath (not usual these days). Evening menu, food nice but limited. Nice breakfast and really pleasant helpful staff. The bed was great for a good sleep and quiet hotel.

Tv not working, electrics on the built in bedside lights (Room 9) not working. Reception informed.

Room was lovely. Stayed in room 70 and it was clean and had everything we needed.

Pillows were amazingly comfy. Staff super friendly and added on breakfast no problem for my and my fella. Shower pressure was amazing with hot water coming so quick. Over all so tidy and clean

Our door getting in was a bit of a pain had to lift the handle then use key card then open. It was fine once we got the knack of it though.

Nothing at all… Mouldy bread in the basket of bread next to the toaster… freezing cold in the restaurant if you can call it that

The whole place was so cold. The swimming pool was a funny colour and slimey around the edges! The staff were rude and not helpful. Put in a room that I very much doubt gets used a lot… cobwebs everywhere and a view onto a roof with cigarette bits everywhere! Smell of weed throughout the hotel. I would avoid at all costs!

The bed was very comfortable

The room was cold. The radiator was behind a very heavy curtain in which blocked the heat.

Room really good needs a little updating ,Bed super comfy, breakfast was good. Hotel could do with updating slightly , clean rooms and friendly staff,Overall we enjoyed our stay and would stay again was a bonus to be able use the pool. Thank you

Excellent value for money, great location on University side of town so no traffic battles to get to it. Really welcoming and friendly staff, nice bathroom and slept really well

Carpet was very tired as we had a room that hadn’t been renovated yet. Staff did acknowledge that replacement was an ongoing program of work

The property is old and tired, toilet was difficult to flush Pillows were flat. The staff were friendly but gave minimal service and often distracted

Close to Chester

Hotel needed updating. Room was dirty and cold and on the very top floor, and no lift. Food was absolutely awful, not home cooked, tasted like it had been cooked from frozen. Room was £150 and dinner was £100 for two, therefore one night in this horrendous hotel was £250+. Waiter was pleasant at dinner, and Asian lady on front desk on arrival was polite and pleasant. When we tried to book dinner, we were discouraged because a party booking for 80 people had been made, in hindsight wish we hadn’t! Breakfast was awful too, cold plates, awful food and had to find a waitress for coffee. Whilst in the restaurant another guest was speaking to another table saying that she was living in the hotel as homeless shelter, she said that this was common for men and women and that it was better than other places.

Fabulous staff, rooms are nice and comfy, the food in the evening was amazing.

Hotel location very good as near to the city and easy access to main links to motorway. the staff very helpful throughout, the evening meal excellent. value for money definatly

My bedroom was at the front of the building and believe over the kitchen area as big extractor fan outside window therefore this started up early. Based on the room being adjacent to the stairwell to second floor this was noisy with other patrons passing by.

The breakfast was acceptable if not exceptional. There were no utensils put out for serving the cooked breakfast and when a serving spoon was provided for the mushrooms, it was broken. Staff were pleasant and polite but were obviously well accustomed to dealing with complaints.

We booked two four poster rooms for a special weekend away. On the day prior to our arrival, we were contacted to say they were not available and we would be offered a £30 pound refund to recognise this. That only reduced the room to it's going rate, no compensation for the change. We were offered a free drink as compensation! We were also placed at opposite ends of the hotel. They had apparently had 'last minute bookings' which meant ours had to be changed. I can only assume this was related to the wedding party. They attempted to blame Booking.com for the changes. A week prior to out visit, we were contacted and offered a meal deal for the evening. On arrival, we were informed the restaurant was not open on that day due to a wedding celebration taking place. My travelling friend was contacted by Sam, apparently the owner, to inform us of the changes to our accommodation on a mobile phone. When we arrived at the hotel and were fobbed off apologies, we decided to contact Sam to complain. My friend was berated by Sam for calling his private mobile, which he contacted my friend on!!!!! The reception area was not particularly clean and the rooms require updating i.e. bedside light flickered when moved, toilet seat loose, window would not shut properly. The hotel was not cheap and I assume they charge for the proximity to Chester. If they wish to charge a premium for this, they need to elevate the standard of their establishment to reflect this. Whilst in reception, making our views known, a couple with a small child informed us that they had been given a free stay due to precisely the problems we were highlighting, so this is nothing new.

Despite being outside of town centre, very easy to get to with public transport with a bus stop very close by. Very good value for money and a very large spacious and comfortable bedroom. Good pool and spa facilities. Very atmospheric and relaxing to casually swim in the eve, where it's quite dimly lit before having an evening meal.

Slightly old fashioned, perhaps could do with a bit of modernising or decorating, although does add to it's charm. Doesn't take away that it's a relaxing and comfortable place to stay.

Very old and worn, not particularly clean. Bathroom door would not close; shower was terrible with scalding water. Toilet did not flush.

Location was exactly what we needed close to the city but without the hassle of getting into the centre and close to parkrun. Breakfast was nice.

The hotel generally was a little run down but nice. Nothing unexpected and exactly what we needed as a place to rest before visiting Chester the next day.

Great location. Very clean. Lovely swimming pool. Relaxing atmosphere.

Large room and bathroom

The hotel room was outdated, the carpet and sofa was badly stained. The walls are so thin you can hear the rooms conversation next door perfectly. Duvet is thin and heating is inadequate.

Location and parking is good. Staff are fantastic and go out of their way to help. I had a late check in so didn’t have chance to use the facilities.

Lumpy uncomfortable bed, carpets are tired in bedroom and dirty. The shower wasn’t powerful. Very dated room that requires a revamp.
