Extremely disappointing, no chance of ever returning.
The breakfast was acceptable if not exceptional. There were no utensils put out for serving the cooked breakfast and when a serving spoon was provided for the mushrooms, it was broken.
Staff were pleasant and polite but were obviously well accustomed to dealing with complaints.
We booked two four poster rooms for a special weekend away. On the day prior to our arrival, we were contacted to say they were not available and we would be offered a £30 pound refund to recognise this. That only reduced the room to it's going rate, no compensation for the change. We were offered a free drink as compensation! We were also placed at opposite ends of the hotel. They had apparently had 'last minute bookings' which meant ours had to be changed. I can only assume this was related to the wedding party. They attempted to blame Booking.com for the changes.
A week prior to out visit, we were contacted and offered a meal deal for the evening. On arrival, we were informed the restaurant was not open on that day due to a wedding celebration taking place.
My travelling friend was contacted by Sam, apparently the owner, to inform us of the changes to our accommodation on a mobile phone. When we arrived at the hotel and were fobbed off apologies, we decided to contact Sam to complain. My friend was berated by Sam for calling his private mobile, which he contacted my friend on!!!!!
The reception area was not particularly clean and the rooms require updating i.e. bedside light flickered when moved, toilet seat loose, window would not shut properly.
The hotel was not cheap and I assume they charge for the proximity to Chester. If they wish to charge a premium for this, they need to elevate the standard of their establishment to reflect this.
Whilst in reception, making our views known, a couple with a small child informed us that they had been given a free stay due to precisely the problems we were highlighting, so this is nothing new.

Excellent value for money, pleasant hotel and will most likely book again.
Hotel location very good as near to the city and easy access to main links to motorway. the staff very helpful throughout, the evening meal excellent. value for money definatly
My bedroom was at the front of the building and believe over the kitchen area as big extractor fan outside window therefore this started up early. Based on the room being adjacent to the stairwell to second floor this was noisy with other patrons passing by.
8.0 / 10.0
Quaint, comfortable and relaxing with a large spacious bedroom and atmospheric indoor pool.
Despite being outside of town centre, very easy to get to with public transport with a bus stop very close by. Very good value for money and a very large spacious and comfortable bedroom. Good pool and spa facilities. Very atmospheric and relaxing to casually swim in the eve, where it's quite dimly lit before having an evening meal.
Slightly old fashioned, perhaps could do with a bit of modernising or decorating, although does add to it's charm. Doesn't take away that it's a relaxing and comfortable place to stay.

The family room we were allocated was terrible
Very old and worn, not particularly clean. Bathroom door would not close; shower was terrible with scalding water. Toilet did not flush.

Good location, nice staff and an adequate room
Location was exactly what we needed close to the city but without the hassle of getting into the centre and close to parkrun.
Breakfast was nice.
The hotel generally was a little run down but nice. Nothing unexpected and exactly what we needed as a place to rest before visiting Chester the next day.

Great location. Very clean. Lovely swimming pool. Relaxing atmosphere.

Would not stay again, not worth the money
Large room and bathroom
The hotel room was outdated, the carpet and sofa was badly stained. The walls are so thin you can hear the rooms conversation next door perfectly. Duvet is thin and heating is inadequate.

Good facilities, comfortable and clean
For the price, it was great

If you need a bed for the night it’s adequate.
Location and parking is good. Staff are fantastic and go out of their way to help. I had a late check in so didn’t have chance to use the facilities.
Lumpy uncomfortable bed, carpets are tired in bedroom and dirty. The shower wasn’t powerful. Very dated room that requires a revamp.

Great stay at reasonable price
Great location
Could do with some upgrades but this is reflected in the price. The staff were all amazing
8.0 / 10.0
Really lovely hotel for the price.
Lovely communal areas and bar. Access to the leisure centre is great as it’s added in the price. Breakfast tasty. Really helpful and friendly staff.
Coffee in the bedrooms are cheap sachets and are really bitter - couple of extra pence and they could get nicer coffee, even just ok coffee.
No hairdryer in the room - asked at reception and when it was delivered it was a really old one, like 80’s or something. So update hairdryers.
Needs updating but that doesn’t take away from its charm and how lovely the staff are. Also for the same type of hotel, in that area with leisure centre, that was high spec then it would be at least £100-£200 more a night so you get what you pay for. It’s cheaper because it’s outdated. It’s still clean, comfortable, lovely staff and tasty food. Great hotel for budget price.

The staff were extremely friendly. They went out of their way to greet us and check if there was anything they could do to make our stay better. Thank you so much.

Outdated property with potential.
Location of the hotel was good. There was lots of parking. Staff were pleasant. Good that you could use the gym and pool. Breakfast was OK. We never had to wait and was served with coffee quickly.
Hotel was very dated. Our room in particular although spacious, was not very pleasant. A bad draught coming through the windows, radiators were not working, so a small portable heater had been placed in the room. The day we arrived was particularly cold and the heater didn't do much in such a spacious room and no heating at all in the bathroom. We all went to bed wearing extra layers and socks the first night. We could feel the springs in the bed and the pillows were flat. The single beds had massive rips in the sides. The bath panel was coming apart and the sink didn't drain very well. The carpet was extremely old and stained and we didn't want to tread on it at all without shoes on.

It's ok but...
Location is great for going to Chester. Friendly and welcoming staff on reception and dining room. Lovely welcoming birthday card and bottle of wine in the room.
Dining room was too cold. Had to put my coat on.
The breakfast buffet was disappointing - not enough choices - no yoghurts, no pastries, limited cereals, no fried eggs (only scrambled). Expensive dinner menu and the chips looked like oven chips.
Our room wasn't cleaned on the first day despite us being out from after breakfast until 3pm. We were provided with clean towels and toilet rolls when we asked.
The WiFi in our room was rubbish and needed soundproofing. Had a loud woman shouting and being verbally abusive to someone outside our window - this woke me up at midnight on the first night. This lasted about 15-20 minutes. Our room was next to the stairs and could hear people going up and down the stairs.
I had booked a garden room but instead was given a room overlooking the car park. I should have queried this as soon as I realised but the reception staff were busy with what looked to be an evening wedding reception.
The room was booked for 2 people but there was only one chair and one bedside lamp. No bin in the bathroom. No shaver point. No useful information in the room about breakfast times, gym, pool information. No room service.
I expected more for the cost per night.
This hotel needs more money so it can do what it needs to do to provide a better hotel experience that competes with similar nearby hotels.
The building is lovely to look at from outside.
We didn't try the pool or gym.
If you just want a basic bed for the night and not fussed about breakfast choices then you'll be ok.

Easy bus ride into Chester from where you can easily get to Liverpool
Location
Poor quality breakfast. Pool not open, I know it was just one of those things that can’t be helped but the pool was one of the reasons we booked the hotel. Hotel looked tired in places. Not a view we were expecting overlooking the car park but I couldn’t see much as the window was high up.

Poor
Swimming pool, cooked breakfast
On arrival we met a hen party just about to check in. I was shocked to find they were in the next room to my family room and mentioned this to the manager who told me that he KNEW that they wouldn't wake my 6 year old up. The noise they made when they returned to their room at 1.30 am was what you would expect from a hen party we complained to reception and they sorted it but by this time we were all wide awake.
Earlier at 11.30 pm the room on the opposite side had the occupants howling like wolves at the top of their voices and the unmistakable strong smell of weed. As I was about to ring reception the shouting died down .
When I spoke to the manager the next morning he didn't seem to care and told me that I was wrong about someone smoking weed in the hotel because the rooms were fitted with detectors. Surely he should have gone and checked , you could still smell it.
We will never return.

Overpriced and unhelpful staff
The Friday when I checked in the lady and gent that were on reception were very friendly and helpful
However the lady on reception on the Saturday night was very rude and unhelpful
The room was cold covered in spider webs and the toilet didn’t flush properly

Very disappointing, i was running the Chester marathon so needed a good nights sleep.
Friendly staff during the stay , but i accidently left my kindle there and still trying to get it sent back been very unhelpful and not answering my emails.
There was no heating in our room over night, it was so cold my husband and i both slept in our clothes. The bedding wasn't clean so my husband refused to sleep under the covers , i got so cold i had no choice !

We enjoyed our night away, loved the swimming pool and jacuzzi, but the toilet problem was not pleasant.
Convenient as near to Chester. Free parking. Friendly staff. Clean bedding and towels. Swimming pool and jacuzzi lovely and included in price. Full English breakfast was great, plenty of choice and plenty to eat.
Our room needed updating. Only opening window in bedroom had a crack along it. Unfortunately our toilet was near impossible to flush. We had to call somebody about it. Double headboard on a kingsize bed and as there was an extra single bed in the room there was no room for a bedside cabinet next to the bed on one side.

Chester
The food in the restaurant was very good 👍
The room was strange, it was on two levels with a single bed on each level, my bed had a bit of a slope from the wall, there was no TV in the upper room and the window area had mold, also using the toilet was scary the seat was loose and moved to one side. The receptionist when we arrived was very pleasant, later in the afternoon her replacement not so much 😕

Very Poor
Arrived early, was told to wait until 3pm so had a drink at reception, 3pm came and was told to wait 20 minutes. We could have done something else in this time and was told different things from all staff. Hall ways, stairs are very dirty. Would not let my daughter hold the hand rail. While there we heard 4 other families complain to reception. Talking to other families the state of their rooms were terrible. Left my pandora bracelet on while in hot tub and it totally ruined it. The chlorine is too high, it left me with swollen eyes. Complained to manager with no help. Hall way smelt of urine as someone urinated in the corridor. If you have booked this hotel I would advise you to rebook elsewhere. Breakfast okay, asked for coffee. Coffee came and asked twice for milk, had finished food before milk came, then it came in a cup with no handles, and the girl said thats all they had, couldn't pour with out spilling everywhere. I came for a last minute 40th birthday treat and honestly it is the worst hotel I have stayed in.

Needs modernising and deep clean
This hotel is in serious need of a refurb and a deep clean, cobwebs everywhere, the carpets were very stained, very old fashioned curtains, and furniture, the family rooms shown on the photos were certainly not what we got. The kids beds were bunk beds in a tiny room with no room to even put your suitcase. Bathroom door didnt shut. The bathroom was very dirty. This facilities were good with the pool and gym but saying that if id paid to use as a spa. As its advertised I would be very disappointed as its very old and dated. The breakfast was good and stsff friendly, but as my kids described it was like walking into your nannas bedroom in the 1940s.
