The room was very comfortable, if a bit small, but was thoughtfully designed with charging points near the bed, swivel TV screen, and an en suite with a large walk-in shower. The downstairs rooms and staircases were clean but it’s a bar so, inevitably, a bit scuffed in places. The staff were friendly but were obviously busy with a wedding the day we were leaving. We had to wait at reception as that wasn’t staffed. The food was tasty with large portions but we found the bread and pastries a bit on the stale side. Would we stay there again? Possibly, if we wanted to be in the centre of Helmsley. We loved Helmsley itself and would recommend visiting.

Lovely pub in a great location to explore Helmsley and the surrounding area. Very cosy bar/restaurant areas. Surprisingly big inside if you want to book functions etc. Food is delicious and very generous portions. Most of all, the staff are fantastic, friendly, efficient and very dog friendly. Highly delighted with our stay.

Very pleasant stay at this traditional country pub . Ideal accommodation for us close to Ampleforth for the annual Cricket Festival . Very pleasant hospitality. Food excellent . Will definitely be visiting again in the future .

Pros: Excellent location. Good supply of bathroom toiletries available. Comfortable bed. Cons: Room not clean. Cobwebs on windows/dirty window frames. Radiators dusty. Very little parking. Bathroom radiator did not work. Tea/coffee stains on walls and skirtings. Shower not powerful. No shelf to place toiletries in bathroom. Breakfast disappointing, very small portion with only a tablespoon of beans. Scrambled egg sloppy and greasy. Evening meal less than one small carrot and one piece of broccoli.
