Such a charming building and decor. Our twin room was spacious and tasteful without being overbearing.
Great beds, lovely shower, comfortable room temperature. Can’t fault it. Location excellent. One of the lifts was out of action, but as we were on the second floor it was a pleasure to walk up the beautiful staircase….exercise! Great and varied breakfast…. Scrambled eggs delicious. Valet parking very convenient, but not cheap. All the staff were welcoming and very helpful. A lovely relaxing stay.

Great location and valet parking
For an accessible room the tray with kettle, cups etc was stored in a cupboard close to the ground. You needed to lift it out and plug it in yourself. Not very accessible to the disabled guests for an accessible room.

It’s stunning staircase and entrance hall. The ambiance and the location. The breakfast in The Alice was excellent. The Morse bar is stunning.
I had to call housekeeping and request that our rooms be made up on both days. No turn down service , in one room ( room 163) there was a terrible odour in the bathroom like sewers. The shower was difficult to use and the shower tray would fill with water when using it. Our rooms were supposed to be disability accessible but were far away from the reception and we had to climb stairs.

My partner and I stayed at the Randolph while in Oxford for our wedding. It felt like a real treat for us as we lived in Oxford for many years and often walked past the hotel - I always thought how lovely it would be to stay there one day. Given that it’s directly opposite the Ashmolean where our wedding ceremony was, it felt like the perfect place to stay for such a special occasion.
The hotel is beautiful, particularly the Morse Bar and the Alice restaurant, and our room was lovely. Overall, we had a good stay, but the experience didn’t quite live up to what we had hoped for.
As we were staying for our wedding, we had hoped for some small acknowledgement of the occasion. On the morning of the wedding, I literally walked out of our room and across the road to the ceremony venue in my bridal dress, but the only acknowledgement of the occasion was a brief "enjoy the wedding" when we checked-in.
I completely appreciate that special touches are not guaranteed and I wasn’t expecting anything extravagant. However, given the significance of the occasion and the cost per night, a small gesture would have gone a long way. This was particularly noticeable when compared with my partner’s stay at Malmaison in Oxford the night before the wedding, where he received a complementary bottle of Champagne and rose petals laid out on the bed.
The Randolph is so beautiful, but given the price, we were left feeling like something was missing.

It's a while since we stayed at the Randolph and we loved the refit. The Drawing Room was great and the breakfast buffet really excellent. Lovely easy to use shower, unlike so many hotels.
Dim lighting in the room.

The service and facilities in the public rooms were excellent. This was not the case in the bedroom we allocated. The room was extremely cold and the floor in the shower room was also cold so that we had to use towels to cover the floor.
The bathrobes were totally unnecessary and appeared excessive in size.
Our main concern is that we were charged for the use of the breakfast and dinning areas by the hotel which we had already paid for through Booking.com when we made the booking. We are looking to be credited for this amount. I have sent an email to the hotel about this. The hotel did provide us with an electric heater for which we were extremely grateful.

Customer service: We were treated exceptionally well throughout from arrival to check out. We were celebrating my husband's birthday and were upgraded to a room with a nice view and also given a voucher for the bar. We had to change rooms because the drain in our wash-basin was blocked, however, this was all dealt with really swiftly.
The room was a bit cold (it was minus degrees outside), and the heating is controlled centrally. However, we were given a small heater, which made a difference.

No hot water in the shower. No water pressure in the shower. Stains on the curtains and throw.

Excellent location and super, friendly staff.
Our two rooms on the 4th floor had very poor WiFi, a kettle and coffee machine that didn’t work and a lukewarm, low pressure shower.

The room was decorated with subtle references to Lewis Carroll and Alice. Beautifully decorated throughout. Very comfortable bed.
Friendly staff. The keywords all feature famous Oxford graduates, which I loved. The receptionist let me choose one to keep .
The shower wasn't very powerful or as hot as I'd like.
The floorboards outside our room were creaky.

Excellent location to explore Oxford City Centre and close by the theatre and Playhouse. Black cab taxi rank at station and fare to hotel less than £5, (as at December 25).
Individually decorated rooms with great attention to detail.
Spotlessly clean and facilities include tea/coffee machines, bathrobes and enormous tv.
Stayed during the Christmas season = lots of people, parties and no space to enjoy the communal areas…(but will visit again in a quiet period).
It’s an old hotel and the bedroom floor sloped downhill left to right….so ended up sleeping across the top of the bed as otherwise felt like doing a headstand ….
Able to open window (to rear of hotel) for fresh air as room heating made it stuffy but air con. equipment outside was noisy all night…
A random, ear piercing alarm went off somewhere before 8 a.m. and lasted just long enough to throw on clothes and grab bag to ‘escape’ what was thought to be a fire alarm…then the alarm stopped.
Didn’t find a socket to charge IPhones etc but had brought a plug…
In short, enjoyed the stay, particularly the location and history of the place but left early and returned home for a good sleep!

The lifts weren't working and we had a third floor room and one of us a sore ankle. Made it hard work.

We’ve stayed with you a number of times of the years normally in August and always lived the location and appearance. We’re happy to accept the hotels age and character over it being perfect.
We did think the communal areas weren’t up to previous standards and the route to the rooms often meant walking past dirty laundry and glasses etc a little disappointing. The outside areas not kept clear of rubbish… box of chips or something remained on the windowsill out the Morse bar for the entire 4 days

Stunning place and so clean
This isn’t a criticism but as they allow dogs they could maybe use the courtyard for them to pee (artificial grass) as we had to take them on main rd

Very comfortable room, characterful decor and good facilities. More spacious than I anticipated for a single room. Nice bar, friendly staff. Very good location opposite Ashmolean museum and close to the historic centre of Oxford.
All good. Lift broken on arrival though fixed very quickly during the evening. Could have been an issue if you had limited mobility.

The location and bar
The Randolph provides a level of service that is entirely unacceptable for a hotel that markets itself as five-star. We stayed for two nights, and from the beginning, numerous issues occurred. Our car reservation for the hotel parking was not registered, and although a staff member eventually resolved the issue, he explained that it was “just luck.” During our stay, our room was never cleaned, and despite requesting service, nothing was done.
Breakfast was equally disappointing on both mornings. Finding a table was difficult, as no one cleared the dirty dishes from previous guests. We were told to leave and return in 15 minutes, and when we did manage to sit down, the buffet was in poor condition. Many items were not refilled — there were no eggs, bread, ham, plates, or fruit, among other things. Guests around us were clearly frustrated, and the overall experience felt chaotic and poorly managed.
Additionally, when we arrived for afternoon tea on Saturday, the tables were covered with dirty dishes. It took the staff 20 minutes and three requests before someone finally cleaned a table for us. Despite this, we were still expected to pay the service charge.
Because of the consistently poor service, our stay was a major disappointment. The Randolph may aspire to be a five-star hotel, but its service level is far below that standard. The issues we experienced appear to stem from weak management: the hotel seems severely understaffed, and the existing staff appear to lack adequate training. It is unacceptable to treat guests in this manner. Based on this experience, I will not be staying at this hotel again.
4.0 / 10.0
Great location in central Oxford and lovely public rooms. We had a nice bedroom and nice dinner at the Alice restaurant.
Breakfast was a shambles and way below the standards you would expect for the price, though we did at least get a refund. Reception staff could have been more helpful on arrival, I'd like to know more than my room number and where the lift is. I think reception could be relocated so it is away from the bustle of curious tourists around the main entrance, so more focus can be given to residents. Although the room was nice, some of the corridors to reach it are a bit drab and depressing.
