Perfect weekend break in Torquay

We went for Valentine’s weekend and were really pleased with our stay. The iconic hotel, being situated up on the hillside, offers beautiful sweeping views over the bay with easy access to the town. The staff was extremely professional and really went out of their way to make us feel welcomed. We were given an upgraded sea view suite which was spacious, clean and comfortable.

Never want to leave!

We love this hotel. From check in through to check out, it’s the best! Stunning rooms do that you can sit and enjoy the stunning views. The facilities are perfect. The best breakfast with so many fresh choices. The staff are great, even had our own pianist from the bar staff!! We are lucky enough to stay at least 6 times a year. 💕

Breakfast was very good with good choices. The bed was comfortable and large.

It is tired looking, the carpet in our room was old and stained in places. The bedroom furniture has seen better days.

Hotel itself is pretty and well located but overpriced food and customer service is below average

Lovely old style decor, great views from the balcony/ restaurant, good pool / gym facilities for a hotel, nice open spaces to relax around the hotel.

Stayed in January and the hotel and our room was cold each day / night, food in the restaurant far too expensive for the value (£14 for a cheese sandwich the size of my hand) and the staff aren’t the most hospitable.

Lovely dining area, although sad it wasn’t open for our booking and we had to sit in a cold conservatory type area. We did enjoy breakfast there though.

Quite dated, window on one room was filthy with leaves on the windowsill inside. Lots of hair and dirt on the swimming poolside and changing rooms.

Very spacious,pleasant and relaxing hotel - great location, but there is almost no need to go out.

High ceilings and large public areas gives plenty of space for customers to spend time relaxing over coffee, lunch or dinner . Staff were friendly, responsive and eager to please Food was excellent.

The spa, the pool was way to cold, steam room was soo hot it actually hurt to breathe in there and the jacuzzi although it was warm the jets were spraying out cold water.

Error in our booking but rectified after a lot of fuss. Cooked breakfast was very poor quality and very over cooked. Plus plates were cold. Plus parking charges on top of the quite high prices

A lovely break in a beautiful place !

Superb property, maintained so well, so historic with plenty of memorabilia on the walls to read. The kingsize sea view with balcony room was amazing. We were so lucky with the weather too. The sun shone so brightly it was warm enough to sit on the balcony and watch the boats come to and from the magnificent harbour. The food offered was plentiful and tasty and lots of variety . All the staff were so pleasant and courteous and couldn’t do enough for us. I have incurable cancer and wanted a little break away from home. I’m also in a wheelchair and they had ramps to get me to the dining room. Nothing was too much trouble to them. Can’t wait to stay again, hopefully I’ll get the chance in a few months time to visit again!

Extraordinary experience -Highly recommended

Really enjoyed our stay over the Christmas period. All staff were friendly and accommodating and finished off with wonderful finishing added touches to make our stay the best it could be and most welcoming with pets which is an added bonus.

Staff are excellent and hotel in general is very clean and comfortable with an old school & grand feel. Free WiFi was good, streamed Netflix one night with no issues. Room was clean, spacious and very comfortable. Didn’t get some of the more modern features but all the basics were present. Bed was very comfortable, had a great few nights sleep. Shower was powerful- great for washing hair! Free tea and coffee and topped up upon request. Didn’t pay for a “sea view” but room we were given had a nice balcony with a view of the Torquay coastline. Breakfast was excellent, all options you would expect including pastries, cereals, cooked food, fresh fruit and tea/coffee on tap. Bar was lovely with seating looking over the sea/coastline. Prices about what you expect to pay at any decent bar these days.

The exterior could do with some tlc- would be nice to see the lettering above the entrance fixed.

The history of the place dating back to 1866 when first established and how they have kept the character of the hotel but still modern facilities love the staircase the dining area overlooking the sea/harbour the bed size 6ft and balcony overlooking stunning views
