Central, lovely decorated for Christmas. Welcoming staff. Big room.

Very good, a nice overnight break away.

Stayed over for family reasons. Hotel room was good, very clean and nice and warm. staff very nice and breakfast was very good. I thought it was very good that after check out I could leave my car parked in the carpark for the day whilst I visited family in the town.

Centrally located in a quaint market town .

The bar and lounge area have warm, old fashioned traditional feel. The staff are friendly and service is quick and efficient. The food is amazing! There is lots of choice of traditional dishes but also several Asian inspired faire. All very tasty.

The bedrooms are comfortable but need a little updating.

Wonderful location , The Bedford has good old fashioned grandeur, excellent Staff and food.

Location was excellent, right in the middle of town, parking was secure , friendly staff, the food was wonderful, had room service but it was from the main menu, it was delicious, breakfast choice and quality was excellent too.

Loved our stay, Homely, relaxed, great food, great staff, great locality & nothing pretentious.

The breakfast & dinners were very good, I would definitely highly rate the dinner & the breakfast selection was great.The room we had was a little too small for comfort really & the shower cubicle very small too. We wouldn't have wanted to spend much time in the room but the hotel has many options for sitting in comfortable homely spaces so no need to be in the room bar sleeping.

Our room a little too small, we should have enquired about room size before booking as we did see other rooms that looked spacious.we should have organised the car parking with the hotel directly for a better deal.

Enjoyable stay in a vibrant friendly hotel, excellent location.

Very friendly helpful staff. Breakfast and dinner well cooked and presented, good quality ingredients. We do think some upgrading is required,ie mould removed from shower hose , sealant around shower area and disabled seat in shower. Lights on one side of bed did not work.

The food was fantastic and staff were great especially Billy behind the bar.

The bathroom bin was rusty and plastic instead of glasses to drink from in the room. Also no bottled water in the room which these days is unusual. That said we had a lovely stay and enjoyed the experience of staying here just would be good if trimmings were in keeping with the rest of the hotel

A nice atmosphere and a great location.

The staff were exceptional and helpful, always polite and happy.

The room was tired as were all areas, the hotel could do with a deep makeover. Despite this we had a very nice stay, it would just be so nice if the hotel was better cosmetically.

Location

Hotel overall Looking very Tired!! I was here 7 years ago and not much has changed. Stayed in a Single room. No privacy drapes from main road - had to have blackout drapes closed ( which had holes in them) and lights on in the morning and afternoon whilst dressing. No air conditioning or fan in room so window open to noisy traffic as room overlooks pedestrian crossing. Bathroom shower adequate but water far too hot and no ability to adjust. Staff however were lovely!

Disappointing to say the least - overpriced, and not sold what we paid for through Booking.com

Back garden was an absolute delight and we were privy to seeing the gardener go about his business. We were lucky with the weather to be able to sit out in the garden, Staff were polite. Everywhere seemed cleaned. Flowers -often scented - were in abundance which was lovely.

The bathroom was far too small and narrow. No handrail to get in and out safely, which was repeated by other guests. Booking.com stated there was free parking, but we were charged as only booking direct with the hotel was offered free parking. Our room, despite the hotel not being full, yet we were still given a room at the back over looking the roof of the conservatory and the tall wall blocking any view of the river behind it - not like the photo's on Booking.com. Only 1 teabag per person per night, so if you have one in the evening, none for the morning.

I have known the Bedford for 50 years and I really liked how much you have improved the public rooms in particular, and also the garden at the back.

The handle on the shower should have been mended. Some of the brown furniture could have been retired by now. The room was very hot.

Way too expensive

No air con and an incredibly hot room. Couldnt stay in the room for more than 10 mins during the day. It was only 21 degrees outside.

Needs a refurb. It’s just old and dated. The breakfast was bad too. For the price you expect a lot more. Shower control broken with sharp plastic hole. Bathroom lock from the 70s.

Good option for a short stay

Tavistock is a very picturesque market town, and everything is within walking distance from the hotel. Check out the Tavistock Pannier Market, it has a great atmosphere with lots of local artisans selling their crafts. The restaurant in the hotel was a nice surprise, there are unique creations on the menu that are artfully prepared.

Unless I missed something, there is one single elevator that only services from the parking level to the ground floor of the hotel, and it is reserved for those with mobility issues. If you are staying on an upper floor, you will have to carry your bags up the stairs. Not an easy task, even for an able-bodied person. The room was very small, with no AC, only a large fan.
