Great staff but a tired hotel in need of a refurbishment
The staff were friendly and helpful. The bar was ok
The building is very tired and the bedroom smelt horrible. The bathroom was very poor and small with very dated furnishings. The Carpet was stained the bed was tiny and the room was too hot.

A good nights sleep but a little overpriced
Staff were welcoming and helpful. Decor was nice. Hotel its self has nice position in town, parking (paid extra)and good ambience. Bed was comfy.
Breakfast was ok for the money. Room was overpriced for the night. Dinner(paid separately) was ok, not what I would expect from a hotel charging this for the night. Good pub food at best! Room was very hot and no way to cool it down. Shower was dirty and had dust on top and had to clean the heads(only a few jets working prior to this) with loads of black stuff falling out!

It was an overnight stay so we could enjoy the local town and a few drinks.
    Excellent and well cared for.
It’s character and history. Its private car park was a bonus too.

Great location, excellent staff, fine food.
Very good breakfast choice, evening meal again very good. Room clean and tidy, so nice to have a bath as well as a shower. Staff all excellent very helpful friendly and knowledgeable.
Lounge area was a little cramped and cold due to outside door being opened frequently and often no closed. Room was fine but did have air conditioning or kitchen extractors running most of time, not too disturbing.

Wonderful to indulge in an historic stay with fantastic local staff to guide you
The staff were brilliant. Made me feel really at home and couldn't do more to settle me and get me the right room. I really enjoyed the room. It had a great desk to work at and a very good bath. I really liked being in the hotel. Real antiques including real paintings and photographs. Rare these days. It felt very special to walk through it. And the staff everywhere appeared very happy. The afternoon tea was very good and enjoyed on the big sofas; the evening meal was excellent. Breakfast - fantastic choice (just seeds seemed to be missing even though listed).
Some moisturiser in the bathroom would have been nice. It's unusual not to get something these days, I travel a lot and often don't have room to pack some for short stays. Wifi didn't work for me. It might have been that my mac was old and there were restrictions in place so my issue really. The TV remote seemed to stop working and I couldn't turn the TV off or use it. Again, this might have been me. Maybe instructions needed!

    Not brilliant
The Bedford Hotel, is in an ideal location. The hotel was clean and beautifully decorated. And of course as it was just before Christmas the decorations were very tasteful. The staff were very pleasant. My room was clean, well presented and a good size.
The towel rail wasn't working, but as only staying one night I was initially not too concerned. I made reception aware. However, when I went to have a shower in the morning there was very little pressure coming from the shower head and the water was cold! I switched the water on and off several times over a 15/20 min period still cold. As was the hot water tap in the sink. So I gave up, got dressed and was heading out for breakfast. But I decided to try one more time. I then started getting hot water, coming through. So I stripped off and got into the shower, shower gel on... Then the water was scolding... So I hastily switched it off, stepped but then had to strip wash at the sink to get the shower gel off... What a palava! I reported the situation to reception/receptionist who was very apologetic. Everything was documented in a communication diary. She told me that the GM was in the building but not on duty. But she would make him aware. However when checking out (approx hour and half later) having stated room 35 checking out the receptionist failed to make the connection and asked "how was my stay?" I stated "Not brilliant" she clearly hadn't heard the Not and said that's good news! So I repeated, "Not brilliant" Then she realised.. She told me she had spoken to the GM but as he was not on duty he was unable to speak with me himself as he had to go and collect he's children... However sent he apologises. Having paid £141 B&B which is quite a lot for one night. I would have expected some form of communication from the hotel regarding the situation. But to date I have not received anything.. which I find very disappointing. I don't think it would have been unreasonable to have been offered a good will gesture. The Bedford Hotel I feel fell below the standard I was expecting for the price paid. The small cooked breakfast provided, although pleasant enough was a bit mean..
