The staff were friendly and helpful. The bar was ok
The building is very tired and the bedroom smelt horrible. The bathroom was very poor and small with very dated furnishings. The Carpet was stained the bed was tiny and the room was too hot.

Staff were welcoming and helpful. Decor was nice. Hotel its self has nice position in town, parking (paid extra)and good ambience. Bed was comfy.
Breakfast was ok for the money. Room was overpriced for the night. Dinner(paid separately) was ok, not what I would expect from a hotel charging this for the night. Good pub food at best! Room was very hot and no way to cool it down. Shower was dirty and had dust on top and had to clean the heads(only a few jets working prior to this) with loads of black stuff falling out!

Excellent and well cared for.
It’s character and history. Its private car park was a bonus too.

Very good breakfast choice, evening meal again very good. Room clean and tidy, so nice to have a bath as well as a shower. Staff all excellent very helpful friendly and knowledgeable.
Lounge area was a little cramped and cold due to outside door being opened frequently and often no closed.
Room was fine but did have air conditioning or kitchen extractors running most of time, not too disturbing.

The staff were brilliant. Made me feel really at home and couldn't do more to settle me and get me the right room. I really enjoyed the room. It had a great desk to work at and a very good bath. I really liked being in the hotel. Real antiques including real paintings and photographs. Rare these days. It felt very special to walk through it. And the staff everywhere appeared very happy. The afternoon tea was very good and enjoyed on the big sofas; the evening meal was excellent. Breakfast - fantastic choice (just seeds seemed to be missing even though listed).
Some moisturiser in the bathroom would have been nice. It's unusual not to get something these days, I travel a lot and often don't have room to pack some for short stays. Wifi didn't work for me. It might have been that my mac was old and there were restrictions in place so my issue really. The TV remote seemed to stop working and I couldn't turn the TV off or use it. Again, this might have been me. Maybe instructions needed!

The Bedford Hotel, is in an ideal location. The hotel was clean and beautifully decorated. And of course as it was just before Christmas the decorations were very tasteful. The staff were very pleasant. My room was clean, well presented and a good size.
The towel rail wasn't working, but as only staying one night I was initially not too concerned. I made reception aware. However, when I went to have a shower in the morning there was very little pressure coming from the shower head and the water was cold! I switched the water on and off several times over a 15/20 min period still cold. As was the hot water tap in the sink. So I gave up, got dressed and was heading out for breakfast. But I decided to try one more time. I then started getting hot water, coming through. So I stripped off and got into the shower, shower gel on... Then the water was scolding... So I hastily switched it off, stepped but then had to strip wash at the sink to get the shower gel off... What a palava! I reported the situation to reception/receptionist who was very apologetic. Everything was documented in a communication diary.
She told me that the GM was in the building but not on duty. But she would make him aware.
However when checking out (approx hour and half later) having stated room 35 checking out the receptionist failed to make the connection and asked "how was my stay?" I stated "Not brilliant" she clearly hadn't heard the Not and said that's good news! So I repeated, "Not brilliant"
Then she realised.. She told me she had spoken to the GM but as he was not on duty he was unable to speak with me himself as he had to go and collect he's children... However sent he apologises.
Having paid £141 B&B which is quite a lot for one night. I would have expected some form of communication from the hotel regarding the situation. But to date I have not received anything.. which I find very disappointing. I don't think it would have been unreasonable to have been offered a good will gesture.
The Bedford Hotel I feel fell below the standard I was expecting for the price paid. The small cooked breakfast provided, although pleasant enough was a bit mean..

Lovely old building in a great location. Relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff.
Dog friendly and even provided a little doggy welcome pack in the room.
Good quality food
Whilst we thought the food was good quality it was on the expensive side for what it was and many of the menu options for both dinner and breakfast incurred surcharges for things that are normally included in the price (£3.50 for red wine jus when ordering the pie and £4 extra for eggs royale).
Our main issue was the noise outside our room in the morning - the commercial bins were collected at 5:15am just below our window and from 6am onwards staff were constantly banging around in the same area. This meant we (including our dog) were wide awake from 5:15 - for this reason we didn’t consider our room to be particularly dog-friendly

The free breakfast was the best I’ve ever tasted. The staff were absolutely amazing. Whole hotel was spotless and lovely
Unfortunately the food was way out of my budget. Slightly disappointed that my room seemed very plain considering the rest of the hotel. Was clean and comfortable but I’ve stayed at much cheaper places and their rooms looked more glam

Old style with character and location, staff are very attentive and work hard to please.
The bedroom was very hot so had to open the window which was then noisy due to traffic, paying £8 for parking because we booked through booking. com and not direct!!! As it was Dickensian evening it was very busy so no room for residents in the lounge to be able to sit and relax.

We absolutely loved it at the Bedford! Oldie worldie! Super cosy rooms. Very clean. Super excellent staff. Very smart and professional. Super excellent delicious food. So quiet at night. A window we were able to open. Comfortable chairs throughout the hotel. A feeling of going back in time. Wholesome looking staff. We are surely coming back!! We felt warm and cosy. Toilet super clean. So nice!
Can’t think of anything we didn’t like!

The bar and lounge area have warm, old fashioned traditional feel. The staff are friendly and service is quick and efficient. The food is amazing! There is lots of choice of traditional dishes but also several
Asian inspired faire. All very tasty.
The bedrooms are comfortable but need a little updating.

Location was excellent, right in the middle of town, parking was secure , friendly staff, the food was wonderful, had room service but it was from the main menu, it was delicious, breakfast choice and quality was excellent too.
Single room was under the main staircase which was a bit creaky !

The reception staff were welcoming, polite, friendly and very helpful. Breakfast and other meals we had were all excellent - compliments to the chef and other cooking, serving staff.
Free parking- we have never had to pay to park our car before, either at the Bedford or any other hotel we have ever stayed at!

The breakfast & dinners were very good, I would definitely highly rate the dinner & the breakfast selection was great. The room we had was a little too small for comfort really & the shower cubicle very small too. We wouldn't have wanted to spend much time in the room but the hotel has many options for sitting in comfortable homely spaces so no need to be in the room bar sleeping.
Our room a little too small, we should have enquired about room size before booking as we did see other rooms that looked spacious.we should have organised the car parking with the hotel directly for a better deal.

Very friendly helpful staff. Breakfast and dinner well cooked and presented, good quality ingredients. We do think some upgrading is required,ie mould removed from shower hose , sealant around shower area and disabled seat in shower. Lights on one side of bed did not work.
See above.

The food was fantastic and staff were great especially Billy behind the bar.
The bathroom bin was rusty and plastic instead of glasses to drink from in the room. Also no bottled water in the room which these days is unusual. That said we had a lovely stay and enjoyed the experience of staying here just would be good if trimmings were in keeping with the rest of the hotel
