Stunning location and very peaceful.
Cottage 2 seriously needs a freshen up.
Facilities were basic.
En suite in very poor condition and felt dirty because of ageing and staining.

Check in and check out went well, and a drink in the bar too
This is a dated hotel that has old wiring and wooden windows, which you could tell needed to be upgraded.
Plug sockets in the rooms are well what can you say, one in the wardrobe, one by the radiator socket and 4 by the kettle area, which is around 6 yards away from where you actually need them, there was once one by the table but that had been closed off.
The breakfast had not sauce's, the bacon looked like it was ready to run around the room, the scrambled egg looked more like what you would see on pavements, the breakfast manager was sat at his computer all the time playing on his phone, which meant on more than one occasion some breakfast food ran out.
I explained that the cloudy apple juice was not working properly and some 45 mins later it was still not working.

Well,me and my gf got there and there was flooding,so they told us we need to follow a van to another carpark in the middle of nowhere then walk back, they said to my gf she may aswell get out at reception while I walked bak! Then when I cancelled and messaged the hotel they said there was a mini bus bringing people bak from the carpark which we was not told this we was told its a fair walk from the carpark....they won't give me a refund and it didnt state on the website that there were flooding!! So not really happy.

Location is excellent for Donington Park Circuit where I was testing. Also the location is scenic being alongside a section of the River Trent with outside spaces and short walks along the riverbank.
Food has improved significantly with the evening meals being very good. Breakfast is also excellent, although a 06:30hr start would be helpful in my case, as the 07:00hr start time makes attendance at the circuit briefings a rush.
The rooms are a little 'tired' and some modernisation is overdue. However, they are fit for purpose and acceptable.

Lovely setting and beautifully presented. My room was large and comfortable and the shower pressure was fabulous. The staff were super helpful and friendly. Even the food on offer in the restaurant was delicious and excellent value for money! I’ll definitely stay again

Quiet location
The hotel is lovely but just needs a little loving care , some of the furnishings are a bit worn and some of the double beds need to be bigger .

The atmosphere outside and the cleanliness was of top notch
No mops in bathroom to dry the floors after shower.Risk of sliping down when one is from taking a shower due to wet feet

The Hotel is again looking great inside, particularly the main lounge.
The staff were very accommodating when I asked for out of hours alcohol
I stayed in the apartment across from the main hotel and having never stayed there before, I was surprised at the level of comfort and cleanliness of the room - especially as the approach to the room is not that appealing
In my view they don't make the most of their fantastic surroundings
The Restaurant is quite cold and austere and nothing like the warm/cosy/pub like feel they used to have 25 years ago.

Staff are friendly and efficient, there is a lovely atmosphere and the lounge area is nicely decorated and comfortable. The food in the restaurant is good.
The bed in room 27 was uncomfortable, the mattress dipped so I kept rolling into the middle and I didn’t sleep well.

The staff were friendly and welcoming. Check in was quick and easy. My room was nice with a comfortable bed. I couldn't fault the breakfast.
In places the decor was in need of looking at but nothing that spoilt my stay.

Location is beautiful and we stayed on the cottage room and it was so cosy, receptionist was friendly but no information was given re breakfast times or location and also the lady who was in reception checking to see if the heating was on in the cottages was rude and unwelcoming to both us and the receptionist.

Pretty location near river and mill
Nice inn facilities for breakfast
Beds on wheels moved around when trying to sit on
Plastic covers under sheets making hot and sticky and causing sheets to slip off
Bed not comfortable

Really nice selection for breakfast - all self service but that was fine. Our room was very quiet with a view outside over woodland. Really nice communal areas around the hotel.

Nothing really, just some amenities were needed: Hairdryer, Tissues and water in the room.

Nice location by the river, stayed in a cottage which was ideal for us.
Service in Restaurant needs improvement

Other than that it was handy for where we needed to be, we didn’t like very much.
Room : as we had a small dog we had to stay in one of the small ‘cottage rooms’ which almost felt like a punishment for having our dog. Strong smell of damp she you walked in. Tired and soulless room. Small duvet, very flat pillows, dingy bathroom, shower attached to the wall with something that didn’t look part of the shower and was held on with one screw. Hand basin didn’t drain. Furniture tired and tatty and we could only find two plug sockets to use. Did not feel value for money.
The whole hotel was tired and in need of some TLC. The staff were nice although the restaurant manager (?) perhaps need to speak to his team in a slightly nicer tone … some of his actions and comments were not appropriate to his team in front of customers.

I don't have any complaints.

Stayed in one of the cottages which was very clean and had everything needed
The bed was so uncomfortable, was far too hard and not the hotels fault or problem but noisey neighbours banging doors etc meant little to no sleep

The location was amazing, the restaurant and food were lovely. The staff were all very friendly and helpful
There wasn’t any tea/coffee making facilities in the room which was disappointing.
The bar closed at 10.30 so we were unable to get a drink after this time.

Great quiet location with excellent character features. Comfortable rooms and dog friendly. Very clean and relaxing.
Some decoration required on the shared entrance to the cottages - first impressions are important.

The property was in a beautiful location. If you were flying from East Midlands Airport it is only situated a few miles away. The hotel was very clean and lovely and warm. It was very pretty for Christmas. Our room was comfortable and warm. It had everything that we needed for our one night stay. The Restaurant was cosy and we had a fabulous meal which was competitively priced. The breakfast was served in the same area. The selection at breakfast was quite good. We wished that there had been a larger selection of fruit and bread, possibly to include some more Artisan loaves as we prefer healthy option choices rather than a cooked breakfast. All that said we enjoyed our stay very much and would return again to the property. The reception staff and restaurant staff we very efficient and friendly.
The only comment we would make is that the Lady in charge of the breakfast service in the restaurant was rather abrupt. Even though she did ask us if we had had everything we wanted from the buffet breakfast, she shut down service promptly at 9.30, removed all the food, closed the partition and left the breakfast room. She got the impression that we needed to finish up our breakfast and leave. This is a shame because the Restaurant staff the night before could not do enough for us and asked us if we had enjoyed our meal and did everything possible to ensure that we were very happy.

I enjoyed the restaurant and the meals. The staff in the bar and restaurant were welcoming and efficient. The service was fine. The food was generally pretty good, and there was a good choice of wines.
1. The room. I had booked a suite to pamper myself, but this was unavailable because of a leak, so I was given a basic double room which was small, tired and dingy. I asked if there was a better room available and was told that the hotel was full with a big wedding and I had been moved to the only room available.
2. The bed. The mattress was very uncomfortable - springy, and two singles zipped together with a raised, protruding join down the middle that made relaxation impossible. I could not find any comfortable position on the bed and got very little sleep on either night. The bed had not been made up properly, with a too-small bottom sheet simply spread on the mattress and not tucked in at the top or the sides, so as I tossed and turned it did not stay in place, creasing and ruckling up under me all the time. The chambermaid didn't even bother to straighten it out after my first night, leaving it in a ruckled mess and just pulling the duvet over it.
3. The toilet, which appeared not to have been cleaned properly for a long time. There were quantities of encrusted excrement round and under the rim, easily visible. Before breakfast on my first morning I reported this to the receptionist, who did not apologise but said it would be cleaned. After breakfast I found that it had been half cleaned, but there was still easily visible filth under the rim. I reported this again, again got no apology but was told it would be reported to Housekeeping and sorted out. This never happened, and it remained dirty for the rest of my two-night stay.
4. The difficulty in getting a refund for the extra cost of the suite. Reception told me they had refunded the money to booking.com, who would refund it to me. However, this did not happen, and I had to phone booking.com, who told me they had heard nothing from the hotel. I had to initiate a 'compensation request' myself with booking.com which they then sent to the hotel. A refund should have been automatic and immediate.

Staff were all incredibly attentive and courteous. Dinner in the evening was delicious, and the whole place has a warm, comfortable vibe.
Lighting in the car park seemed to be broken - I imagine as a result of the recent storm that hit. Other than that, nothing negative at all!
