Design, helpful staff.
Beautiful lobbies and communal spaces but dated rooms and furnishes. Lacked charm. Needs upgrade. Dark hallways.

The location
It’s run down. It’s way too expensive for what it is.

This is a very large, very high-end hotel, at a very good location, especially if you are interested in the many museums that are in walking distance within and around the nearby bosque de chaupetec. All the conveniences and services and excellent staff of a high-end hotel are there to get you feel sufficiently pampered and taken care of. And as it is not part of a large international brand, you actually are in Mexico.
being in Mexico in December one realizes that for most of the rest of the year, room heating will not be necessary, and is therefore not much considered. it was a bit chilly.

Excellent service- especially from Guadalupe and Jesus in the Camino Club who made us feel so cared for every day! My kids loved the pool which is always extremely warm no matter the outside temperature. Beautiful area and spacious rooms. The lobby is gorgeous. The Polanco area is so nice, safe and near everything.
Our only issue was the refrigerator in our room did not work but it wasn’t a big deal given all of the positives.

The hotel and all the extra facilities are very luxurious. The breakfast buffet was amazing. Many choices from Mexican to American hot and cold. All the dishes were prepared as if it was a full-serve restaurant. If you like having your luggage carried for you, and attendants everywhere, this is your place. We walked about 7 minutes to the Castle at Chapultepec park. We also found cafes and restaurants within two or three blocks that were very good.
There could have been an espresso bar at the restaurant. The only coffee was brewed. The bed was too hard for me to sleep comfortably on.

The hotel is very nice and staff super friendly. I felt it was a very service based hotel as we constantly were queried if we needed anything which is what you expect at this price point. Bed was super comfy as well.
The room size was what you would expect in a lower price point. I think the price we paid, holiday rates, was a bit much but we were grateful that the staff made it an enjoyable stay. Also this time of year the pool is not in the sun for too long so just to be aware of that.

5.0 / 10.0
- Bed is very comfortable, and rooms are okay
- Location is great, safe area and close to lots of attractions and restaurants
- Quiet hotel but with a lot of life at the same time
- Even though the concept is to keep the infrastructure old and classic, there are a lot of broken things in the room that need fixing
- The staff is quite rude most of the time, especially at reception
- When I checked in, nobody explained anything about the facilities, the restaurants, the map of the hotel, etc. which I find surprising given that there is a huge line at reception and you have to wait at least 10 mins. You will have to go separately to the concierge and ask yourself if you want to know something (which is weird)
- The cleaning just comes at random times in the day, sometimes at 8:30am and sometimes at 7:00pm, and they are super loud. Considering the walls and doors are extremely thin, expect to be woken up by people laughing and screaming outside of your door
- The value for money is absolutely not there, for being a 5 star hotel you get very little attention and care, and breakfast is NOT included (which becomes super expensive)

Such a gorgeous hotel! Designed by one of Mexico's greatest architects -- Ricardo Legorreta -- it brims with classic MCM furnishings and colonial antiques and a huge Rufino Tamayo mural. A must for any architecture fan. Also, a good jumping off place for exploring house by Legorreta's mentor Luis Barragan. Easy walk to Chapultepec Park. Museum of Anthropology. Museum and La Reforma boulevard. Wonderful breakfast, too.

We were told one breakfast was included on our first morning. The next day they said the made a mistake and charged us$60 for a mediocre breakfast buffet

Staff was great. Room was large, hotel is charming and feels like Mexico, location was excellent.
The carpet floor in our room had a slight bad odor. The areas that are not renovated could use a bit of refreshing.

I have been to fine hotels all around the world during my 80 years of living. Definitely I would rate Camino Real as one of the 3 best hotels on this planet. I appreciated so much the upgrade given to us by Antonio when we first arrived at the front desk at around midnight the first day, and upon our return to New York at 5 am, he was also there when we checked out. He is to be commended for his excellent service. Your restaurants are superb. Our favorite was La Huerta where all the servers were gracious and helpful. We have never seen such an abundant and exquisitely prepared buffet in our lives! The desserts were works of art which were as delicious as they were beautiful to behold. I appreciated the waiters during all our 7 days eating in La Huerta charging us less if they noticed that we were not eating so much, even though we would say we were wanting buffets. We loved our room 2204!!!! What a view of that amazing garden too from our terrace!! We never heard any street noises such as cars, buses. The air even smelled clean, and all this in one of the largest cities in the world. We were concerned about the safety inside the hotel, and were pleased to see personnel in their uniforms stationed at every entrance. Thank you for making access to our rooms available only with our room card, making glass doors open automatically to the hallways leading to our rooms. We felt very safe. I liked how your personnel would escort my 95 year old husband to our room because sometimes he'd get lost in the vast areas connecting to the lobby.
There is nothing I didn't like. I was so happy every moment!

Service people were very good.
Room service was a little slow, and the bar at the hotel did not have many items on the menu. For example, they did not have the olives for 4 days. I noticed stocking of food and beverage items was an issue—insufficient planning to have enough food and beverage items at all times. Starbucks was out of almond milk.
Beds had hair on the pillows. it seemed they did not change them from last guest.
Not enough lighting on hallways.
No snack store at the hotel property.

This is (still) a very good hotel if staying for just a few days.
We were in a junior suite and it was nice but a little dated. The closet was really tiny. The bed and pillows quite comfortable buy we did not like te view at all ( It was a wall !! ) We have stayed there before in a club room with a balcony and view to the garden and pool. ( much better )
The closet was tiny and terrible view for a junior suite.

Originally built for the 1968 Olympics in Mexico the hotel was designed by renowned architect Ricardo Legorreta. Legorreta counted on the advice of the architect Luis Barragán, the artist Mathias Goeritz and on the collaboration of other creative professionals, such as Calder and Noguchi. It’s a classic mid century modern design and the art is fantastic. The location is great, walking to Chapultepec park and to the museums and all the area has to offer, great restaurants and shopping. The staff was very attentive and friendly and the food at the buffet restaurant on site was very good and I appreciated all the healthy options. I would definitely stay here again.
Can’t think of anything, I had a great stay and love this property.
