Pousada Convento de Vila Viçosa

The hotel is a converted 16 century Royal convent and the building is of great historical importance and for that reason it’s just a privilege to be able to sleep here. The gardens in particular are glorious there is a centuries, old English walnut tree, and a very old and stunning magnolia grand Floor out, which was in flower when I happen to be staying at the hotel. It’s perfume infused the lobby with its lemon sherbet sense. The hotel also permits dogs, which is a luxury for dog owners, such as myself.

The property has a lovely old world quality to it however, I do think that some of the furnishings are slightly outdated, and the property could benefit from some carefully considered updates as long, of course, as they respect the history of the building

This former convent is a chip above the rest! Many of the former inhabitants had forsaken their vow of poverty in order to be accompanied by their servants! And the spaciousness is revealing. All in all, a Heaven upon earth. it exudes luxury and architectural beauty and utility. Magnificant grounds populated by specimen shrubs and trees, set in a remote but delightful part of rural Portugal. Staff naturally mannerly and informed. Dinner reasonably priced and consisted of local produce with good wines. Breakfast adequate.

Location. Historic building, nice garden, Good pool.

Big, old and expensive for what we got. No coffee making facilities in the room. Bathroom was very old feeling and a bit dirty. Under staffed and all looking under invested and tired
