The patrons from the restaurant were noisy when hanging about the parking area when smoking or bidding farewell to one another - the windows are not noise cancelling/double glazed, hence sounded like the crowd were in our room - settled down after 22:30

Gone down hill

Location and parking. I know the hotel well before it got taken over . What a shame its gone so down hill

Countless e mails as self check in .left my card details as requested for breakages ?? Then had 3 further e mails asking for the deposit, bearing in mind this hotel is rsted as luxury. Contacted the number online , was assured I would not have any further e mails, and I would be sent a code to gain access . I did. It didn't work !!. 8 pm arrival, 3 calls they finally called back , said AGAINi had not paid deposit, I had !!! Did get in., then the code never ever worked again . Shower flooded the bathroom . Heating would not work Total disaster Such a shame, it used to be fabulous

A convenient place to stay as we were visiting family

Very easy to get in, the PIN code worked well. We were able to park on site which felt more secure. The room was clean and comfortable and they had left us a bag of goodies

Not a criticism but it would be good if in the future breakfast could be available. Having said that, there was a fridge, coffee machine and kettle

Comfortable, great location and view, a bit of friction around the EV charger

Check-in process was completely remote and seamless, did not encounter any challenges with access.

Getting an EV charging code was a bit convoluted, I ended up not using the EV charging point. I suspect someone with an EV would be motivated to navigate that process, but as I had a plug-in hybrid, I decided to forgo charging. Also, there was only a single EV charging point (the second charger was not installed).

It wasn't a huge problem but as the car park was full, we parked on street all weekend - we were able to park within 20 yards so it was manageable

Comfortable and quiet place to stay, in excellent location

Great location and spacious room with comfortable bed and a roomy balcony. Pleasing decor. Nice starter pack of snacks. Good sized bathroom. Quiet location. A minute’s walk to the sea front and a 15 min drive into Cardiff. Can see the sea over the balcony wall. Quiet room and not overlooked.

Unpleasant drain smell in corridor. Shower had a missing knob and you couldn’t adjust the heat. Heaters came on randomly both nights at bedtime. Turned them right down but they came on again after a while - not a good smell when they came on (the one in the bathroom was very dusty). Some of the furniture a bit ‘wobbly’ and the bottom bit of the fridge cabinet was falling off, but I fixed it and it will look nicer for the next person. Had a check out message about putting rubbish in black bags and recycling bags but no such bags existed. Assumed that meant I had to take out the rubbish but no outside bins (ended up taking the rubbish to where I was working). Also message said to turn the heaters off - I did but they probably turned themselves back on again when my back was turned! Also not keen on giving my personal data for check in (they need a photo of passport or driving licence. in addition to lots of personal data) and thought £100 breakage deposit was a bit excessive - stay away a lot at weekends in all sorts of places and don’t usually get that.

Adequate accommodation but disappointing stay as certainly not the luxury room advertised.

Lovely location. Comfortable bed. Hosts helpful once responded to query re heating.

Room very small, no where to relax except in the bed and narrow space beside bed. Cold room, no obvious way to turn up heating. Although they did turn on radiator rather responding to check in message... (hadn't responded to my earlier text). Bathroom radiator did not work at all. Water for shower was lukewarm at best and bathroom obviously very cold. Although generally clean chrome taps etc in bathroom were tarnished and shower curtain stained at bottom.... not quite the luxury feel advertised. Cost was not justified ... not really the premium luxury experience that was advertised. Could do with curtains as blind didn't keep out light and curtains would have helped with draught through window.

Disappointed with refurb and no answers to my messages

The location was perfect for walking along Penarth Pier and into town.

Outside areas need management as broken items, cans of coke, spare umbrella stands, windows are left laying around. Loose handle on bathroom door in Room 203. No hot water in shower in Room 103. Kept awake all Saturday night as broken gazebo roof in garden was banging in the wind! Where was the “Elegant private residents lounge” surely not the seating in the lobby, outside the restaurant, which was actually occupied by two ladies having drinks, who weren’t even staying at Holm House?

High class property, very clean and decorated to a very high standard. Good location away from busier areas, but within walking distance of nice restaurants, pier and town. Train from Penarth station just 3 stops on the train into the centre of Cardiff, much easier than trying to navigate the traffic and parking.

A newly refurbished hotel in a good location.

Good location, pleasant room.

Unfortunately there was a leak in the bathroom. This was fixed promptly and arrangements were made for me to shower in another room. Unfortunately this entailed going outside in the rain! The toilet seat was also loose and the light over the mirror didn’t work.

It's a fine place, which shows much promise, though it needs responsive forms of customer services.

Generally comfortable, smart, well appointed.

But I will point out in Room 103 there was a strong drain smell in the bathroom on arrival. The bathroom door handle was loose, and so was the toilet seat. And this is how we found them. I wanted to report the two latter bathroom issues, partly so that these would not be thought our fault. The emails bounced back from both [email protected] and [email protected], both addresses that had sent me emails to check during the stay. These were evidently unreachable or unresponsive over the weekend. It was just as well that our problems were not more urgent. I don't know what would have been the situation if they were.

Great potential, but lacking in details!

A beautiful apartment, lovely furnishings. Loved the balcony, wished the side wall was lower to see the sea view better. The towels were excellent and plentiful. Comfortable bed and good quality sheets. Free parking.

Strange arrangements for check in, including £100 bond against damage and ID driving licence. I have never been asked this anywhere else for hotels or AirBnb type of holiday, and I book frequently! No ventilation apart from opening the patio door to balcony - in heavy rain we had to keep it closed to stop rain coming in! And no way of fastening it to stop it swinging in the wind! Just needs a hook or two. Could cause injury or damage (and I got wet trying to close it). Lack of ventilation should have been a Planning Regulation! The shower - no working thermostat. The water starts cold then gets hotter and hotter as it comes from the boiler. The water was so hot I couldn't bear it! The mixer thermostat should mix cold and hot. It doesn't. Metal tab missing on the shower control. We complained on first day and after waiting around for a couple of hours when we were planning to go out, a housekeeper arrived and tried to tell us we didn't understand shower mixers! I dont think so! Again, a Health and Safety issue. The restaurant was closed Mon and Tues. On Wed the kitchen staff arrived, loud chats and music all afternoon while we were in, then noise from restaurant in the evening. We had actually been down to eat, it didn't seem overly noisy so why so noisy upstairs ? Must have poor sound insulation? Planning Regs again? A minor point - lighting is poor near TV area. Could do with a table lamp. A couple of cereal bowls and spoons for breakfast would have been nice. The fridge slides around when you try to open the door. Needs fastening down.

Great property

Beautiful property in a great location. The room was gorgeous and had everything you needed. Very easy instructions to navigate your self check in. The parking was the biggest bonus for me, it felt so safe and secure in the gated driveway.

Lovely room but NOT self catering. Nice location.

Noisy as bar below had a party, This is not self catering. 3 glasses and 3 mugs is not enough. No crockery or cutlery. Mugs had to be washed in bathroom. No cooking facilities not even a toaster. The accommodation is over a restaurant not connected to the accommodation. Therefore it was very noisy. No refund was offered because of thus, very disappointed.

Really homely Holm House

We stayed in room 203 Holm House for 3 nights. It was perfect for us. The separate sleeping and living areas meant we had lots of space to relax. The balcony was great. Just big enough to sit out with a pre dinner drink and with a lovely view of the garden and the sea. The kitchenette was very well equipped and although we only used the kettle and coffee machine, the fridge was a real boon for keeping our bottles of water, fresh milk and ouzo :-) cold. The location was perfect for our short stay as we were able to walk down to the Esplanade for our breakfasts and evening meals (we chose Sids, Romeos and Chef G). Altogether we had a very relaxing, trouble free stay and would highly recommend 203 Holm House.

Beautiful hotel, will be even better once refurbished completely

Room size and comfortable. Loved having a washing machine and the little welcome bag with snacks and water. Bathroom was lovely a big, and the room wss very light. Location just a short walk to the beach and the town.

When the restaurant was open, due to the location of our room (King suite) the extractor fan noise and smell from late afternoon till very late evening was too much so we checked out early. Did contact hosts to advise our decision but no acknowledgement. Could do with staff on site as there was a coffee cup on the table by the doors for days and the stairs needed a sweep.
