Stayed here over the bank holiday weekend with my wife and two kids, and this is genuinely one of those rare hotels where you feel like an actual guest rather than just another booking reference.
Brett was a great character. My daughter declared his mocktail the best she's ever had, which is high praise from a tough crowd!
There was a power cut during our stay, which could have been a nightmare, but the team handled it brilliantly and made sure all guests were fed without any fuss. Says a lot about a place when things go wrong and they still deliver.
Location-wise, it's a perfect base for the Lake District. Great walks and runs straight out the door, which we made the most of.
We'll be back.

The property was lovely and clean in a lovely setting. The staff were all excellent. Leo was great in helping with the local weather and his knowledge of the area. Breakfast was lovely and I cannot fault the place. Our room (9) was lovely. A big room with a huge bathroom and bath that we both fitted in nicely. Also a huge bed đ. One excellent bonus was that we saw jets directly from our window flying over Bassenthwaite water.
This isnât a reflection of the lodge but we preferred to drink in the manor across the road. Only because there were lit open fires and there were a few more people about. The lodge was very quiet. That will suit some people but I like a bit more atmosphere but as I say thatâs no reflection on the lodge.
