Great overall value for money

Dinner well presented by New Girl on staff, chef did well for 12 of us

Down for Breakfast with colleagues at 07.55hrs, sadly Breakfast did not arrive to the table till 08.30, putting me behind schedule for our event, perhaps GK can consider starting Breakfast at 07.30hrs to give gusets a chance to get to there respective events appointments?

Quite tired. Bed uncomfortable and pillows lumpy

Staff were very helpful making sure I had a ground floor room. Breakfast and dinner both very nice.

Location was great. Breakfast was great. Even had EV charging in the Carpark. Great location to get to Luminate at Coombe Abbey.

Everything other than the check-in experience seemed great. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. The bathroom was nice. Parking was good. From reviews, we arrived planning to possibly stay on for a couple of days to see in the New Year.

We appreciate that many reviews praise the friendliness of the staff, and we may simply have been unlucky. However, as frequent travellers, this was one of the most unwelcoming hotel experiences we’ve had. We arrived at 10:20pm, which we now understand is 20 minutes after check in time, but our children were exhausted after a long journey and we really didn’t need anything other than a friendly face and a room that we could all sleep in. From check-in, the staff member was offhand and impatient. She couldn’t locate our reservation, then there was confusion over our booking details, and although I emphasised that we had booked a family room, we were given a room with one bed. When I went back to the bar to raise the issue, the staff member appeared irritated and dismissive, repeatedly emphasising that she was not responsible for the hotel and was not paid after 11pm. It was still well before 11pm at this point. Her manner was unhelpful and lacking in empathy, despite me explaining that we were travelling with two disabled children and a disabled partner. Assistance eventually came from a manager who made up the beds, but he was unfriendly, and the room remained inadequately stocked. We found we had only one towel and did not feel comfortable going back to the bar to ask again so we had to make do with one towel between four of us. This was particularly disappointing because the hotel itself seemed lovely. We had arrived considering staying on for New Year, but instead we were left feeling uncomfortable and keen to leave as soon as possible.

Free Parking

Very old decor, this place needs updating badly. I had a metal key for the room not a card !! The bathroom looks like it was last decorated in the 80s, very depressing. The owner is cheaping out on upgrades but not the fee for staying there.

Unlike four other hotels that I have stayed in this year, The Old Mill was the only one with a properly working, hot towel rail which made the bathroom cosy.

The help-yourself coffee at breakfast wasn't hot. I have stayed at The Old Mill before and the coffee is never hot.

Location was good in proximity to my family but that’s nothing to do with hotel. No problem with staff, breakfast seemed fine.

Wi-Fi was impossible/useless, as against last Christmas. This year staff leaving early was rubbish, bar closure Christmas Day and early bar closure Boxing Day even to hotel residents with a v average bottle of wine to take to room (not a good or acceptable option) being 25 pounds, I would suggest this should be made clear on booking or close the hotel for Christmas. We came again to stay after last year, again owing to family overload but we didn’t expect to feel it was a travel lodge and we were an inconvenience - this was our preferred stay on family occasions but now feel we’d rather try elsewhere. How sad, and not good for the prospects of the hotel - I would remind the owners that people go away for Christmas as a hotel break - this isn’t one and therefore many people will not come again Christmas or otherwise for fear of huge disappointment.

The staff were amazing, I loved that Katie called before hand to confirm my booking and to see if I wanted to book in for dinner

The rooms are lovely and spacious, the hot water is lovely and hot not tepid and the staff are really friendly

Spacious room with pleasant views along the river. Breakfast was lovely. Close to the main ring road, but rural location. Heating was cosy.

The ground floor has obviously suffered from damp (rising damp or local flooding perhaps) and the room smelled musty on arrival. Windows were difficult to open for ventilation. Dated decor. The room could do with some tlc.

A longer stay

Check in and a delightful room.

Actually, nothing.

The building is stunning and the location is very quite (away from everything but peaceful). Room is big Breakfast server is brilliant, friendly but not over familiar, takes an interest, most importantly she remembered my order making me feel at home.

The windows are soundproof, but thankfully in a quiet there Low shower head so need to crouch I personally had an issue with a transaction in the restaurant, I was correct, and no one would be humble and admit the error

Lovely friendly countryside break with fantastic rooms and great food availability. Michelle at reception made us both feel so welcome and was attentive and helpful. This continued in the evening at dinner with Zuz the friendly waitress who was so nice and obviously a great asset for the hotel. Food 10/10 accommodation fantastic roomy and all usual facilities with a lovely outside too.

welcomng friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble, the room was lovely the bed was super comfortable and there was plenty of facilities to make the room really special. the breakfasts were good too.

The friendliness and helpfulness of staff

Availability of tables in the restaurant. They were unable to provide a table for me when I came on Friday evening, and I had to take my meal to my room.

Lighting still poor in main bedroom, o desk Lamp any more?? Headboards Dirty/Worn out, Beds need changing wardrobes played ot, in a nutshell these rooms need to come up to hol inn/Mecure/Hampton standards for the price point charged, GK need to make it a project,

Shower head is fixed at 5’4” so I have to squat to shower Room decor is a little dated, but good condition and clean

Registration staff were very friendly and helpful, room was comfortable and spacious, bathroom nice and and shower very good. Parking was very easy.

Room lighting was a bit too dim - could do with a dimmer switch to turn the brightness up.

The staff were great! Food is fantastic! Ample parking.

Bed was very firm & creaked A LOT when moving only a little bit. The vinyl bed head was disintegrating where people have leaned & grabbed along the top. The bathroom did not have a sink mixer & the towel rack heater was inoperable. wifi very slow & low mobile signal.

The staff were friendly and accessible by ringing a bell to get their attention, including details of a night porter in case of a problem. We were able to change rooms during the stay due to a problem with our beds. There were good options for breakfast at a reasonable price and you could have both continental elements and a hot option for the hot option price. The rooms were a great size and considering how close it was to a dual carriageway there was practically no traffic noise. Plenty of parking and good choices for an evening meal. There were biscuits in the room as well as hot drinks :-)

The first night I would have slept better on the floor as the mattresses were so hard!! After changing rooms we had a better nights sleep. Both rooms had mould around the window frames and on the walls and ceilings of the bathrooms and the first rooms shower was practically falling off the wall!! The carpets in the hallway are starting to look frayed and tired. Plug sockets by the beds would have been useful.
