Blackburn Cottage Barn

The location was excellent, very remote and quite just what we wanted

We struggled to find the cottage A local guy living near by directed us We arrived approx 5pm which is the time we told the host we would be arriving I told the host in advance that I would be arriving with my 3 children When we finally found the property there were no lights on outside even though they had outside lights The parking was around the side of the property, it was pitch black no lights for miles, heavy rain and trying to get 3 young kids with bags to the gate in the dark was a challenge We then had to find the key safe and operate that in the dark whilst raining Once in the property, it was similar temperature as the outside, approx 5 degrees Tried ringing the host to find out how to get the place warmed up no answer There were electric heaters in each room, most of them worked but some didn't, the ones that worked took approx 15 mins to heat up but even when fully working they werent very effective, we had to put the kitchen electric hob on full all rings to get some heat into the place which is not safe especially with a 3 year old It's not all negative, there was hot water, the place was beautiful inside and out proper country cottage, there was water leaking in through the glass skylight but there were buckets to catch the drips and it didn't cause us a problem We had hot water from the water tank for baths, towels, fresh bedding, all kitchen essentials, lots of books games and TV etc There was no WiFi but had a pretty good phone signal so it wasn't a problem and tbh kids were entertained with the games so didn't use any phones or tablets Overall this property has potential but it would have been nice I'f someone had went there 2 hours prior to get the place heated up and leave some lights on so we could get in quickly and safely Overall, disappointed for what could have been a totally amazing stay

The location, the walks, the isolation, the wildlife.

No wi-fi, garden was not weeded and lawn was not cut.

Everything was amazing. Place was so clean and had everything we needed. The peace and quiet was exactly what we were looking for and needed. Wolsingham village was within ten minutes away and plenty of walks to be done. Even had a day out at the Lakes.

There was nothing we didn't like, nothing to complain about, everything was perfect.

Amazing location - literally in the middle of nowhere! access to Hamsterley Forrest over the hills. Lots of wildlife including a beautiful white barn owl. Comfortable accommodation - decent bed, plenty of towels and extra linen. could sleep more than 6 with the extra mattress and sofa bed. Board games and DVDs

Probably due a lick of paint this summer and some tiles by the kitchen sink

Brilliant location for riding at Hamsterley forest. Great views and wildlife. Cosy place to stay

No outside tap or hosepipe for cleaning the bike.

Perfect location for exploring Hamsterley Forest (7min drive) it was also perfect for exploring the moorlands. The property had all of the amenities we needed.

Excellent location. Perfect for those who enjoy the outdoors.
