We were not expecting the beauty of nature in the Karoo to take our breaths away on route to and arriving at Bosch Luys kloof. The rock formations, mountains and the deafening silence awaiting us were something else. Add to this the warmth, kindness and attentiveness of the staff (the face of Bosch Luys during our stay), - Sarah and Dan - and you have the most perfect stay. We decided to stay another day. Sarah and Dan (such lovely humans), thank you for making our stay unforgettable. The drive to the lodge was an experience, but this was one of those times where at some points (e.g. you see the sign –“To the moer and gone”) it is about the destination, having no concept of what is ahead, and the most interesting and beautiful journey 😊. We drove a high clearance car (Renault Duster), but not a 4x4, and the dirt road was not so comfortable at times, especially through the Seweweekspoort. The main lodge houses the dining room for breakfast/lunch/dinner; the Bar and pool areas. Guests are housed in Chalets, a short walk away from the lodge. Our chalet (open plan) was very comfortable, spotless, bath, a double outside shower, complimentary coffee/tea making facilities, a fireplace and a large patio. The decor is a bit dated but the patio that allows you to take in the most glorious views makes up for all of it. The weather was mild/sunny during the day, but the evenings were cold and made very cozy by the roaring fires in the various fireplaces in the lodge and in our chalet. Sarah’s nature drive was excellent! One just can’t get enough of the stunning landscapes. Her knowledge about the area, fauna and flora was just the cherry on top. The breakfasts and dinners are set menus. Beautifully presented and served. Delicious. There is no cell phone connection, and the Wi-Fi is not great. The silence hurts your ears. The serenity makes you forget about anything else than what is happening in that moment. This place touches your soul.
Nothing to complain about.

Middle of nowhere property - absolutely stunning location. A really warm, professional welcome from the team. Excellent housekeeping. They have an eye for detail in all aspects of your stay.

Bosch Luys Kloof remains a truly magical place. The setting in the Swartberg mountains is absolutely breathtaking — raw, unspoilt nature that makes you feel completely removed from everyday life. The accommodation itself is charming and the surrounding landscape does all the talking. The weather was not on our side during our stay, but that is simply the Karoo being the Karoo and takes nothing away from the experience.
There is one practical issue that needs attention. The hot water was consistently cold throughout our stay, which was particularly noticeable given the cool mountain temperatures. When we raised the issue, Caro was unfortunately not very forthcoming in finding a solution. For a property at this level and price point, reliable hot water is a basic expectation and we hope this is something management will address for future guests.
