I spent two wonderful days at the eco-friendly Te Aute Ridge Cottage to celebrate my birthday, and it was the perfect getaway. The place is incredibly calm, peaceful, and beautifully surrounded by nature. A truly relaxing experience — I couldn't have asked for a better spot to unwind and celebrate!

What a gem of a place, so original and one of its kind!The birds singing in the lush vegetation are a constant delight.The batch itself is rustic in spirit, and rightly so, given its environment, but contains everything one needs and the kitchen is very well equipped.It was fun to shower outside with a beautiful view, and there is plenty of hot water.Last but not least, the hostess is absolutely charming.All in all, an outstanding place.

What a lovely little eco-cottage! Represented exactly as pictured and was exactly what we were expecting. Quiet, private, cozy, and just a short drive from Bethel’s beach and Bethels cafe (which has some amazing food!!!). Margaret was a lovely host and so helpful! We enjoyed our conversations with her and greatly appreciated her assistance with a few hiccups we encountered with our travel plans (nothing to do with our stay at her place). The self-serve breakfast was a wonderful touch. If we are ever in the area we will most definitely stay again! Thank you Margaret! Cheers!

Spent the better part of a rainy day relaxing in this interesting little charmer. Set in the bush, it has a very calming vibe to it. Outdoor toilet, shower & sink were part of the ambiance. Comfy bed, great windows, and well stocked kitchen made for a homey feel. Short drive to Bethells Beach, which was also a great experience. Enjoyed my stay!

What a treat of a spot! Margaret greeted us at the driveway and we had a lovely chat. The bach was absolutely perfect for Matt's rest and recuperation after a really exhausting month, and I got to read! The beach close enough and the sandy sunset and then Full moon rise from the deck were amazing. Everything required was provided and the fresh eggs were a lovely touch. The shower was delicious - hot and strong and glorious. We didn't end up using the DVD, but what an array of great films :) I would definitely stay again. Bliss

My partner and I had a wonder weekend away at this beautiful oasis. Only a stones throw from the city but when you get there you couldn’t feel further way from the hustle. The house itself awarded the most incredible view to wake up to in the morning with the native birds and bush. We entertained ourselves with the selection of DVDs and board games which felt pleasantly nostalgic. Our host was very lovely and hospitable. Made herself known when we arrived but left us to it for the rest of the trip which is a preference for my partner and I. 100% recommend and we will be back for sure.

Gorgeous, homely with buckets of rustic charm!! What a gem, we absolutely loved our stay. Margaret was a lovely host who greeted us on arrival and was there if we needed anything. The cottage is perfectly laid out with a generous well stocked kitchen, leading onto a homely comfortable lounge and a separate bedroom with a deck and beautiful views across the valley. Tastefully decorated, it is the quintessential storybook cottage A generous and varied continental breakfast was provided with local eggs and coffee. We were hesitant about the outdoor shower but it was really good, hot, powerful and a provided some entertainment! We felt very private, secluded and relaxed, just what we needed...

The 3 night stay was after 12 day’s work. The outdoor shower and toilet were perfect. The local market down the hill with 5 people was bliss (beans roasted at Bethell’s beans, 1 km away). The wild smashing waves of Blethell’s black sand beach, shared with only a few others people was surreal. A coffee van parked in the beach car park, playing some tunes on a 22C, blue sky day was a great find. A range of local walks on offer-resting heart rate to maximum heart rate. Only bettered by simply sitting on the tiny deck , sipping a poison of your choice and looking out through the foliage down the valley. We enjoyed cooking breakfast and eating on the deck. There is nothing to complain about when you are surrounded by New Zealand native bush and rolling countryside. This was a last minute booking for me and it was just what I needed. A lovely old quaint cottage to unwind in and connect with nature. Going outside in the cold to the toilet in the middle of the night was all part of the adventure. It was like going back in time, watching old DVD's, playing patience with a deck of cards, and showering outside with the Tuis. The host was lovely and very accommodating. The beach is an absolute treasure also. Thank you.

We went for a little winter getaway weekend, escaping the buzzy akl city life and absolutely loved it. The place is tucked away and surrounded by beautiful nz bush, green outside every window and so cozy:) . Many hikes were closed due to post flooding land slips, but bethels beach never disappoints and we were the only ones in the water for sunset surf each night - so stunning. Thanks for having us, we’ll be back :)

Utterly idyllic and characterful, full of quirky charm. The perfect getaway in a scenic and tranquil location. Very comfortable and thoughtful accommodation, everything provided that you could wish for. Can't recommend highly enough if you want somewhere to escape the busyness and recharge.
