About this house rental

Watch the bountiful wildlife and the seasons change on the Big Sioux River while listening to the water flowing over the Klondike Dam from the large deck, lower level porch or new 7 person hot tub. The exterior to this home resembles a rustic cabin in the woods but is far from rustic once you enter the front door and see the modern amenities.
Most of this home is constructed from reclaimed lumber from the 1900s. Much of the wood is Southern Yellow pine with the Great Room constructed from reclaimed 2 x 6s. The Great Room on the main level overlooks the Big Sioux River through 2 large windows and a sliding glass door to an expansive covered balcony. The cabinets were hand made for the home from reclaimed lumber but the granite countertops offer elegance as well.

The main floor has a full kitchen, one bedroom and one full bathroom. It also has a cozy gas heater. The dining area has a large table for family card games, or just relaxing with your morning coffee looking out the large windows.

The lower level is a walkout with nine foot ceilings that gives it an open feel. There is two bedrooms, a bath, a laundry room and a family room with another cozy gas heater with remote thermostats. The entire lower level is completed in knotty pine with log style furniture to complement the rustic feel. It also offers a large TV, pull out queen sofa sleeper and electric recliner to enjoy a little down time watching that football game or movies or finish that great novel. There is a large log table here also to play cards, games or complete crossword puzzles. There is also a laundry room with Samsung washer and dryer. This level has a door which leads to a large covered patio, landscaped yard, and new hot tub! The river is less than 50 yards in front of this exit, but one will not be able to access the river from the home due to a very steep incline so the land is left natural with trees, tall grass and wild flowers.
You can access the river though, one block away at the historical Klondike dam site which now is closed to traffic, but offers a large bridge to fish from. Kayaks also enter and exit at this point for a beautiful experience down the Big Sioux River.

Fishing - Iowa or SD fishing license

Relaxing – you won’t need a sound machine or fan for white noise here. Just sleep with the windows open and hear the sound of the babbling waterfalls below.

History
The Klondike Mill was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003, and given the #75000696.
Little remains of the Klondike Mill except an old stone wall and a few artifacts from the historical structure. It is located on the Iowa side of the dam where a bridge spans the Big Sioux River, just beneath the public access parking area.

Kayak or Canoe
There is a loading/exiting area approx. one block from the house where one can take the scenic 3.5 mile ride to Canton or exit from the up-river trail from Sioux Falls. The Canton trek is rated as one of the best with steep canyon sidewalls.

Bird-Animal watch
Perfect area to just sit on the porch and watch. Bald Eagles and deer are a daily site in this area.
In addition, there is a wealth of animal life on the waters of small South Dakota lakes, rivers, and creeks, including geese, ducks, pelicans, great blue heron, egrets, hawks, owls, perching birds, deer, raccoons, and beaver. Eagles, fox, and coyote are also sometimes spotted.

Lake Pahoja Recreation Area
2.5 miles west on Highway 276 has something for everyone!
It is open year-round and offers a variety of recreation activities such as ice fishing, hunting, biking, bird watching, canoeing, frisbee golf, outdoor basketball court plus a whole lot more.
All of the facilities have been made handicapped accessible along with the 1 1/3 mile asphalt hiking/biking trail along the north shore. A 3 2/3 mile hiking trail encircles the lake for the nature and exercise enthusiasts.
At the northeast end of the lake there is a 350' x 100' swimming beach and an adjoining comfort station for those interested in a little sun and fun!
$5 daily fee.

This place was honestly perfect for my family and me. We spent so much quality time together, which is really important to us, and when we needed our own space, the rooms were laid out perfectly for that too. Everything was clean and well cared for, and one of our favorite things was that the property doesn’t allow animals—no fur, no smells, just a really fresh, comfortable space. We truly, truly loved it. The views were amazing. The hot tub was perfect. The gathering spaces were beautiful and inviting. The kitchen was awesome and had everything we needed to make it feel cozy and easy, like a real getaway. The fireplaces were such a great touch too. Honestly, I could go on and on about this place. We are a bit of a crunchy family, so we unplugged the air-freshener plug-ins while we were there (and plugged them back in before we left), but that’s just a personal thing. The sound of the river was incredible—so peaceful and calming. The deck was another favorite spot for us.I think this place is especially amazing in the winter. Sitting in the hot tub with those views was unbeatable. I’m sure it’s great in the summer too, though I’d imagine there might be some mosquitoes with the river and all the trees—but even then, it would still be worth it.If you’re thinking about a winter getaway, book this place immediately. Even over Christmas weekend, the price felt very reasonable for the value we got. The hosts were easy to work with, and once we were settled in, we didn’t hear

They have air purifiers going, but not helping at all.Remove the pee smell and this is a 5 star location!!!
