About this cottage rental

Minutes from Hawaii Volcano National Park, Bamboo View Cottage is nestled in the tree tops with views overlooking the beautiful landscrape of a 9 acre estate. . The Bamboo View Cottage is a freestanding private large upstairs (24x24) studio cottage that has a kitchenette,(complete with frig. ,apartment size stove, microwave, , 1 king bed , futon couch, dining area, bathroom with shower ,sitting area, has its own driveway, fenced yard , totally enclosed patio with bamboo fencing and sauna with front entrance faces the rain forest. You area is on a quarter acre shared by no one. ( Downstairs is a storage area you do not see.). The Studio has just been renovated to a contemporary Hawaiian style with oil paintings, fresh cut tropical flower arrangements.

The owners has several other homes in the Volcano area. They have been in the hosting occuptation for many years and strive to make every guest confortable and happy.

Brenda was very quick to respond to our queries and was really helpful. We love the accommodations, have enjoyed the sauna and slept well. The gardens are lovely. We were perfectly located to catch eruption #36!

Excellent, private, and beautiful location for our 4 nights near Volcano. The best thing was that it was 4 miles from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. We wanted out granddaughter to experience this active volcanic park and it's special features. We were on exact time to experience Episode 30 of the current Halemaumau eruption. We visited the park Aug. 5 and heard the next eruption was due in the next couple days. I checked my computer for the latest from USGS about 8AM on Aug. 6 and the eruption began that early morning. We ate our breakfast and were on the highway by 9AM. No traffic as we pulled up at the entrance station....3 cars ahead of us. Drove to the furthest viewpoint and worked our way back towards the Visitor Center. Our last views were the best....full view of the 300 foot fountain of lava. Wonderful! The whole event ended about noon as the fountaining stopped. Spent the rest of the day out at the Lava Tube, Kilauea Iki overlooks and beyond. Our Bamboo accommodation was perfect for us. We stopped at 2 grocery stores in Volcano to pick up food for each day....

Looks exactly like the recent pictures! Perfect size for our little family of 3. Very comfortable. Very clean. We were sad hower we didnt get any gecko friends joining us for coffee and breakfasts. Do wish there was a spatula tho for cooking. The sound of the frogs at night is extremely loud but we actually loved it and found it soothing. The chickens all around were great as well! Very secluded. And all though no view of the ocean, Hills or mountians its a very beautiful peaceful setting. Great spot for a home base to explore the Island.

Such a cute little bungalow! We were a little disappointed that it was a sauna rather than the hot tub pictured, but it was still so nice. It’s so close to Volcano National Park, but also tucked away so you really feel out in the jungle. The coqui frogs, birds, and bugs make the most wonderful sounds to fall asleep to at night (but beware the rooster next door that will crow for about 20min around 3-4am every day ). This was such a perfect little adventure house for a few days!

Good location near Volcanoes National Park and Volcano Village. Nicely appointed and comfortable. There was no ice in freezer and only one empty ice tray but owner brought us some (along with some fresh eggs, a bonus!). There is no ‘view’ of ‘9 acre property’. There was no information about potable drinking water needed to be provided and there was none. Again, the owner was responsive but not enough so had to buy some. We suggest they put this information in the description and/or utilize 5 gallon water dispensers instead of individual small plastic bottles to provide for entire stay. One ceiling fan did not work.

Property was amazing! Perfect for our 10 day stay on the Hawaii island! Would love to stay again! Owners were accommodating and communication was great! Would have been better if the kitchen had included some sort of tray that could put food in the oven, and make sure you buy lighter fluid if you plan to grill as that was not on the property with the charcoal!

More spacious than expected. We weren’t expecting the very early chicken alarm clock. Patio area was a nice outdoor space for happy hour. The only thing we were disappointed with was the very pilly sheets.

The studio was perfect for our trip and was even better than the pictures. The place was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. There were plenty of towels and blankets. The kitchen served our needs but could use a few more coffee mugs and wine glasses. It would’ve been nice to have a box of tissues as well. Overall it was great and we hope to be back.

We loved staying here! The dense bamboo forest in front of the house made it feel like a cool hideaway, since you can not see the house from the road. The lush greenery in the outdoor area was amazing and the space inside was perfect for our needs on this vacation. We got lucky and had rented a 4x4 jeep for this trip, and it definitely helped as this rental is on a gravel dirt road. My favorite thing about this rental was the king size bed. Soooo comfy. The only small downside has to be the roosters that seem to crow at odd hours, but it didn't keep us up. Having a kitchen was nice, and we were able to save on meals by eating our leftovers since there was a fridge and microwave. The bathroom was on the small side, the shower is not big enough for two people and the water pressure was pretty low. Having internet was great, we were able to watch Netflix on the TV while laying in bed, very cozy! We also used the sauna a few times, which was nice and relaxing. This is also close to the National Park, which is convenient for hiking and it's also a great home base for day trips in either direction. There are not a ton of food options right in Volcano, but it was enough for this trip. We did enjoy several of the local spots. Don't hesitate to book this and enjoy a relaxing stay on the island!

Listing looks great, but could benefit from an update. Not a big deal but the hot tub was no longer on the property. The sauna was awesome though! We missed our warning, but to future visitors know the road is gravel and the surrounding area is dark. We appreciated the recommendations for things to do/eat as Volcano is quite small, but nonetheless wonderful. Cleanliness was unfortunately lacking as we were met with some dust, cobwebs, etc. we did come across some flies and ants during our stay too. All around a fun stay though and we’d surely consider returning for another stay in the future.

This property worked great for our 3 night stay in Volcano. We loved the rainforest setting and enjoyed the sounds of the forest at night. Having a kitchen was great for prepping lunches to take with us on our hikes and as we explored the east side of the island. Being able to eat breakfast and dinner without going out was also great and saved us lots of $$. Host was very responsive to any needs we expressed. Special thanks for the fresh delicious eggs!

Our stay was fine. The location is lush & beautiful, although not quite as secluded/private as the listing suggests. The bed was very comfortable & we had plenty of blankets & towels. It got quite warm & stuffy indoors during the day and without AC it was tough to cool the house down, even at night when the air outdoors was much cooler. Many of the screens in the windows had holes in them & let in lots of bugs while trying to cool the place down. The WIFI was spotty. The shower curtain was moldy. I agree with previous reviews stating more usable “flat” space would be helpful to hold toiletries & suitcases, etc. The road leading to the house was dirt & very rocky - a word of caution to those renting economy/midsized cars like us. This spot has potential to be a great rental if the owners put a little more thought into usable/practical things for renters over decor - ie. Toilet paper holder & shelves on the bathroom walls, baking sheet for the oven, screen door on the front door, etc. Overall our stay was fine but if we’d stayed longer than a couple nights I imagine we would have needed to purchase more essentials to have a comfortable extended stay.

Of the 3 places we rented on the Island, this was the best. Spacious, comfortable, and the best sleep we had (other than the 4am Rooster shenanigans). The Bathroom had plenty of hot water, cushy bathmat, & lots of towels. It would benefit from a shelf for toiletries & more than 1 towel hook (nowhere to hang a hand towel near sink). Hooks on the back of the door for the provided robes would have been great. The Kitchen was large & had a good selection of pots & pans, as well as a spacious fridge. Coffee was disappointing (Folgers, & only enough for 1 pot). It would really benefit from a water filter & some cloth kitchen towels (only had non-sustainable paper & plastic bottles of water.) The bed was extremely comfortable & the space had multiple fans, lots of windows, & provided a symphony of night sounds. Deep hot tub (lid was VERY heavy & no place to hang a towel or robe), gorgeous yard, solid Wi-Fi, and a Smart TV. A power strip near the desk would have been nice. Overall, a LOVELY stay.

We thought the property was wonderful, private,secluded, comfortable. We loved the hot tub, ample towels and anything else we needed. You do hear the the early morning roosters and nighttime tree frogs, etc. but that was part of the adventure. Wish there was some "flat" space in the bathroom to accommodate toiletries and a larger dresser for clothing so as not to live out of a suitcase. Some bottled water was provided but bring more since the unit uses catchment water. Great place, we loved it!

Room and hot tub were fine; kitchen lacked adequate microwave and oven containers, no baking sheet, some pots need handles tightened. Loud roosters screaming already at 3 am and keep you awake. Eggs in basket outside (in warm weather ...) for apparent use by guests well intended and appreciated but ... how old were they? One of us got VERY sick (fearing salmonella poisoning) after eating a boiled egg!! No contact with host after checking in. OK with us, but strange ...

Loved being close to so many choices esp the volcano nay park. Clean, pleasant and above and beyond with nice flower arrangements, clean hot tub, fresh eggs, good shampoo, conditioner and coffee, mayo, butter, and some water. You will need to get more water as the water seems clean except not recommended for drinking.

We really enjoyed our stay here very much. This accomodation is great, very nicely furnished and close to the volcano national Park. The bed was super comfortable and offered enough space for us both plus our little daughter. The whirlpool is a big plus too, really relaxing. We can totally recommend staying here!

This was our first VRBO stay and we were very happy with the location, views, cleanliness, helpfulness and hospitality of Lori, and her excellent communication before and during our stay. The country setting away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist area was the perfect fit for our family. Would definitely stay again and highly recommend to others.

Cute, welcoming cabin in a fairly isolated area. Pros: warm and working hot tub, lots of towels, fun and interesting decor, birds singing 24 hours a day outside, beautiful flowers all over outside, fresh flowers around the cabin in unique antique vases, adequate kitchen supplies, 2 bottles per day of bottled water, convenient to Hawaii Volcanos National Park, easy check in. Cons: We specifically asked months ahead about a comfortable place for our young adult grandson to sleep and were told there was a very comfy fold out couch. Either the day before or the morning of arrival we got an email saying “Oops, I was confused and there is no fold out couch, only a futon floor mat,”. Our grandson had to sleep on a 3-4 inch mat on the linoleum floor. No pillow was supplied for the “futon” and not enough blankets, so he woke up stiff and chilly. Place was fun and great otherwise. Just annoying to get that email shortly before checking when we specifically asked months ago and before making reservations.

This place was fantastic!! To say it's off the beaten path might not be phrasing it properly, it is way out there which was exactly what we were wanting. Despite being out there, it was a beautiful little place with wonderful decor and everything you would need. The hot tub was fabulous for a romantic evening listening to the symphony of frogs in the forest. Absolutely perfect!

The cottage was perfect for the 2 of us. We loved the fresh flowers in the cottage and the fresh eggs Brenda offered us during our stay. The location was great for Volcano National Park. We were able to see the lava pre-dawn, when it was much less crowded at the eruption viewing area. The hot tub was perfect after long hikes at the park. We would definitely stay here again!

Our stay was practically perfect in every way. The “studio” is quite roomy and the hot tub made for a lovely end to each day. We would 100% stay here again (and again, and again)! * Like most places we have stayed in Hawaii, bring ear plugs to avoid a 3:30am rooster wake up call. This is not a slight against the property at all. It is what it is.

Really nice personal hale in your own patch of hapu'u and 'ohi'a rainforest. Private, clean, well stocked and beautiful flower arrangements. Bring water bottles to drink, we loved the conscious use of rain catchment. Minutes to great hiking and very special kīpuka. Hot tub was great for the evening. Would definitely recommend and hope to come back!

We would have given this property a 5, but it did fall short. The bed is comfortable, and overall the cabin is well kept. However, please take other reviews into consideration pertaining to the roosters. We have chickens at home so we weren't expecting to be bothered. That being said there are a total of what appeared to be 4 chicken coops right by the cabin. There are several VERY VERY vocal roosters. As most everyone knows, roosters crow whenever they feel the need to do so. They crowed periodically throughout the night, but started excessively around 4 am. I hate to leave this cute cabin 3 stars, but we really didn't feel we could give it a higher rating. The kitchen is equipped, but barely. If you plan to cook much then inquire if more cooking pans have been added. Brenda was lovely to communicate with etc.. Also, side note... there is no AC so you have no choice but to listen to the chicken farm.

We spent 7 nights at this rental. Pros: Convenient location to Volcano National Park. Fresh eggs left for us to enjoy. Fresh flowers. Hot tub (covered). BBQ grill (charcoal). Large, comfortable bed. Ceiling fans. Lots of windows. Coffee and cream. Olive oil, salt, pepper, and paper toweling. Lots of bath towels. Shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. Drying rack. Cons: In need of a good cleaning . . . floors, under and behind things, shower curtain, counter tops, ceiling, ledges, etc. Not as rural and private as we thought it would be. We could hear cars, people talking, TV, etc. The frogs, chicken, roosters, etc. are very loud. We enjoy the sounds of nature so not really a con for us, however, I can see this being an issue for many. Limited storage. Uncomfortable furniture. Recommendations: We have traveled and rented all over the world for 30+ years so I like to include recommendations to possibly improve the experience for future guests. Including any of the following would be great additions to this rental: Brush to clean the grill. Table next to the grill for prep, etc. Toilet paper holder, soap dish, shower caddy, towel bar, and more hooks in the bathroom. Luggage rack. Portable beach chairs and beach towels.

Great communication with owner and cute bungalow in the forest just 10 minutes from the National Park. Comfortable bed, unit equipped with full size frig and all the basics needed for meals and a getaway from the hecticness of crowds. Great space to relax after hiking in Volcano. The king bed linens, towels, chairs, sofa, and tv were all newer and nice. Hot tub was wonderful. There wasn't much in the way of food staples (oils/seasonings) or baggies/storage containers and such, and the non-stick pans were scratched (not unusual for these type of rentals). Still, a true find.

We stayed in this beautiful cottage for 3 nights of our honeymoon. It was the absolute perfect spot while we explored volcano national park and the Hilo side of the island. The driveway down into this remote cottage is gorgeous and makes you feel like you are in the middle of the rainforest. It all feels very remote and romantic - perfect for a honeymoon. The property is a quick drive to the entrance of the national park, and the hot tub was the perfect way to relax after a day of hiking. Brenda was super responsive and gave us great recommendations for things to do during our trip. Check in/check out was super easy. The house itself was very clean and well decorated. Although the kitchen is small, we were able to cook some basic meals. We will definitely stay here again when we are back in Hawaii.
