Avoid on off season

The place located in a very comfortable location, it looks nice from outside and has nice views and beautiful terrace

Probably due to the low season, the place felt neglected. We arrived on a reasonably early hour around 18:00. No one was in the reception and a note left on the table. We were waiting for the hostess for a few minutes. It seems the main hosts were away, as we were greeted by the cook or something, which was ok but did not understand a word in English. The indoor pool lightning didn’t work so we passed it. Then we were located in a room just in front of the reception desk, where we could hear everyone, anytime. Not a nice experience for a quiet private holiday we expected from an accommodation in Tuscany. The bed was super hard and felt cheap. We paid reasonable amount of money, the highest in the trip and got the worst experience. The value for the money is totally one of the worst I had anywhere in the world, as traveling for almost 15 years. Just don’t do it for yourself if you get such a room. The breakfast was so boring. No eggs, no vegetables. Just looks nice on the outside but feels cheap. Avoid.

Poor communication and unexpected charges ruined the stay

The property itself is very nice, with a comfortable room and a great location close to several wineries and not far from the city. It has good potential for a relaxing countryside stay.

Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. Even though the listing said that staff speak multiple languages, the person who checked us in only spoke Italian. She showed us around and completed the check-in process but didn’t mention anything about extra charges. We used the indoor pool briefly one afternoon (30-40min), and the next morning during breakfast, she told us — through Google Translate — that we had to pay €44. I even thought that this was for the breakfast and paid, only to 10 days later receive a message explaining that €40 of that was supposedly an “extra fee” for using the "spa area". We were never told that using the indoor pool would be considered using the spa or that it required any payment. While the property is nice, the lack of clear communication and transparency completely spoiled the experience. I don’t recommend this place and have already opened a complaint with Booking regarding this issue.

Overall, a nice spot for a short stay

We enjoyed our stay here and especially appreciated the lovely pool area l, it was the perfect place to relax after a day of exploring. Breakfast was very good with plenty of fresh options to start the day right. We had a group of about 30 wild pigs cross the road in front of us at night which was a funny experience

The room was on the smaller side and the bed wasn’t that comfortable, but everything was clean and well-kept.

Good place to start your Chianti journey!

It seems that this place is run by a family, which makes it authentic. The compound is lovely with comfortable rooms (with air condition) and a pool area. Breakfast is served in a common area. There are a lot of spots to sit outside. It's a great place to stay a little bit outside of Greve in Chianti and explore the region.

The breakfast menu could be a bit broader.

Slightly disappointed

It was a stunning setting also considering we paid for the top room 250 euros a night. The views were spectacular and close to some eateries, Greve township just 6km away. The pool was huge deep, just a little cold in Mid June. Cute quaint setting

Late to arrive to check in as management wasn't there onsite to meet us and no signage to tell newcomers where to go, so ended up almost walking through clients rooms to find someone. The light outside was left on all night and lit the room up brightly and unable to sleep well on first night, asked management to turn off lights 2nd night but he obviously forgot so had to put towels over the window (also forgot our swimming towels so had to ask again) breakfast was very average and supplied as little as they could get away with. The two larger rooms that are very expensive (NZ $) there was no tea/coffee facilities in our room or a small fridge I understood talking to others that their rooms were quite small and a little disappointing, so understood they might not have room for a small fridge or kettle.

The property was gorgeous and serene. It was the exact Tuscan experience we were looking for. The pool was exceptional and the views are beautiful. Very close to Panzano as well.

The water heat fluctuated in the shower so would turn very hot randomly while showering.

Clean, Great location, comfy room

Bizzare stay… I’m guessing under new ownership or management- the first night after being checked in we never saw a staff member / host again… was like a ghost town - never met the famous Maria as stated in all the glowing reviews. Only on our 3rd night did we realise that we could have dinner at the property and this was through another guest - this was never mentioned upon checking in, the pool area needs some TLC - nearly fell through the broken decking. Twice people let themselves into our room through the terrace door thinking it was reception - once was the housekeeper at 8.30am…When checking out couldn’t find anyone… beautiful but wouldn’t go back.

Cute county house with welcoming host

The accomodation (facility) is impressive! It overlooks Tuscan landscape, there is a beautiful terrace and pool (in summer months), playground for children, parking available. Maria was welcoming and available for any request one would have. Breakfast is available (7€/person/day). We booked a family room, which had a master bedroom and sofa in the kitchen. The couch could be better in terms of mattres comfortability, but we understand it is an optional bed for this type of room. The kitchen was functional with all neccessities. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would come again.

Breakfast was available and overall good, but lacked savoury choices for our preferences (lots of homemade sweets were available, though). Location can be a minus, because you need to go with a car practically everywhere, but I guess that is the charm of Chianti region. :)

It was so wonderful stay at Il Casello! Atmospheric Tuscan rooms in beautiful villa. Breakfast was so tasty and we could order what we want. Amazing view from the terrace where meal was served! Big swimming-pool. Parking was free, spacious, safety and close to the room. The best host - Maria was so kind and helpful. We strongly recommend this accommodation!

We enjoy this vacation so much. Very quiet and beautifú place. Maria (the owner) is so wonderful and kind person. she wanted to help us with everything and was so peacefull. Breakfast at this place was so tasty and the coffee - the best one I have ever drink. We were here with two small kids, they enjoy the swimming pool very much. The view from this house was so wonderful. Thank you Maria, it was a privelage to meet you and to stay in your house. We will be back next summer :) Eva from Slovakia :)

Everything! We arrived late in the evening and Maria, her husband and son were there to welcome us :-) The hotel and property are quaint and beautifully maintained. Incredible view looking over the Tuscan countryside. Bed and pillows are very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious. Pool was extremely refreshing after running through the villages of the Chianti region on a hot summer day!

The standard double room could be a little tight, especially if you have a lot of luggage
