The Crown Pub & Hotel

Central location and friendly staff.

Easy check-in, nice upgrade, decent room, great location and price.

The mattress was old and I could feel the springs poking through.

The bed was comfortable. There was a TV and a wardrobe to place bags and coats. A bedside cabinet at the foot of the bed, on which was a Kettle with tea, coffee, milk and a cup. There was also a portable fan. The was a bedside lamp on a shelf which had a good lamp. The ensuite was comfortable, towels were provided and the shower was nice and hot. The staff were nice and friendly. Keys to the room and the exterior door were provided. The downstairs of The Crown Hotel was being refurbished at the time, so there was no breakfast available but we had already been informed of this. There are plenty of breakfast options in Alton, such as the Station Cafe.

The floorboards next to the door of the ensuite were a bit creaky, but you could easily step over them to get through the door.

If you want a bed for the night then the bedroom is clean and not uncomfortable. The rest of the pub is closed for renovations (October 26) but Alton has numerous other pubs, bars, restaurants to visit.

The entrance lobby of reception area and toilets is currently being renovated, You can see that the bar areas have been gutted. Workmen were there when I entered in the evening, walking over dust sheets past tools, tiles etc was unexpected to say the least, No mention of the renovations is made prior to completion of a booking, only when you have paid. I was informed that the renovations were due to complete in December.
