We booked a twin room and ended up with a room that was more like a flat with a double room, kitchen area, a separate twin room and bathroom with shower cubicle. The beds were comfy and it was lovely and warm. The staff were very accommodating throughout, couldn’t have done more to make it a good stay. The lady came in early to make sure we could have a warm breakfast before setting off on a long walk. The breakfast was lovely and she even did an extra sausage for the dog.
The shower head could do with replacing, the shower was also boiling and we couldn’t turn it down.
There was a fridge but it wasn’t switched on and the kitchen space in the room looked like it was mid renovation. Little things that actually didn’t bother us that much but could do with some thought.

Staff very accommodating and helpful... Breakfast great
We weren't informed before we arrived that queen catherine was closed for refurb... Just a sign outside saying go to three tuns over the road... When we checked in it was a flat behind the pub... Which looked clean and ok... they gave us a front door key to the pub for us to use of we went out as they would be closing around 6pm... And they said the chef onl y lives next door so any problems to give her a ring... They were very accommodating... When we went up to the room we needed showers etc as we were there for a funeral the following day...Couldn't get
shower to work and there was no hot water.. luckily there was a kettle so we boiled that a few times and had washesin the sink which wasn't ideal.. Obviously I couldn't wash my hair or anything though... The bed in the main areas was very small... More like a
small double rather than a normal double... There was two singles in another area but we had booked a double room so expected the bed to be of a normal size...so the price didn't reflect the accomodation...the staff were very good and when we told them about the shower and no hot water they were apologetic.

To be clear this review is not The Queen Catherine Hotel. The hotel was closed for refurbishment and had been relocated to The Three Tuns round the corner. The room consisted of a bedroom, bathroom and a separate toilet room. First impressions were good. Usual hotel facilities were provided. Good walk-in shower. Staff pleasant and friendly. Food was nice.
Arrived after dark, The Queen Catherine was closed up. Notice at the front said the *restaurant* was relocated to The Three Tuns. Spent a few minutes hunting for the *hotel* entrance and ringing the doorbell before trying the Three Tuns. Again, room was heated by portable heater even though radiators worked when thermostat valve was turned up (I needed to dry walking gear). Bathroom towel rail never came on, so bathroom was cold and towel didn't dry overnight. Radiator in toilet also didn't come on, so toilet was cold. Mattress was sloping. Bar unexpectedly closed at 8pm, before I had finished my drink – a bit more warning would have been good. Ordered breakfast for 8am. Came down at allocated hour to find the pub dark. At 8:30am called the hotel number. Appeared that the message hadn't got through about the breakfast. No decaf coffee in room. Got the feeling it was a temporary situation while The Queen Catherine is refurbished, so was a little more forgiving than I would otherwise been. But for £90 – the most expensive of the week – it wasn't value for money at all.

Excellent breakfast and superb evening meal
Wifi connectivity was poor

It's in a lovely place, and the parking was convenient. The breakfast was excellent and staff were friendly. Smart looking bathroom and plenty of tea and biscuits.
We were in a room in a different building from the pub, so had to go across the road to get breakfast, as well as to seek help with the WiFi, the TV and the door key.
The bed was really creaky, so we kept waking up (and the foot board was not great for my tall husband).

Damp, thin walls, grubby
My daughters stayed in the main pub and had to endure the sound of people next door having noisy sex in the evening and morning. Our accommodation was in a neighbouring building and smelt damp - no extractor fan in the bathroom. Breakfast was mediocre.

Nice central location in the village- very quiet - got a good room in the annex ( 3 tons) with a good shower/bathroom. The breakfast was delicious and the staff friendly
The breakfast room in the hotel ( main hotel) was a little smoky ( presumably from the night before)

We were upgraded to a small apartment but not sure why there was no space in the hotel. This was comfortable.
Staff reception was underwhelming

The bar staff were friendly kind and helpful. Lovely location. Excellent breakfast, comfy bed, Slept very well
My partner phoned the hotel to make a direct booking. He was told that his Credit card wasn't working - payment did not go through. Tried again after an hour (having used card successfully elsewhere) Card payment refused. I phoned the hotel and offered to book using my own card. I was told by the man who answered to "Find another hotel because your cards don't work" He then hung up! So I made a successful booking using Booking.com for the SAME hotel. My card worked fine.
We were warmly welcomed on arrival at Queen Catherine Hotel Osmotherley. Our cards worked throughout our stay. Never did find out why we had such a drama! Maybe their card machine was out of order. We'll never know. Unlikely to stay again. But if someone could explain why we had such a problem and apologise, we would really appreciate it.

The breakfast was fantastic, full English, perfectly cooked both days served by friendly staff.
I didn’t spend much time in the hotel but Room 1 is a pleasant, good sized single room. The tea and coffee trolley had a lovely box with tea, coffee and milk which was a nice touch as was the wooden cover to the box of tissues supplied.
Nice location but with 2 other hotels within minutes parking was a challenge. The hotel was bustling on my arrival 7.30 on a Friday blessed with good weather. I was greeted by friendly staff and shown to my room.
The mattress was very soft, I prefer a firmer mattress.

We stayed across the road at the Three Tunes, a lovely pub, the room is on the ground floor, with access directly from the street with a seating area, ideal for sitting outside on a summer’s evening.
It is clean, comfortable and serves a really nice breakfast👍
The down side, The Tree Tuns closed at 5 o’clock, I can kind of understand why, considering the residents, but I think maybe 8/9 o’clock would be acceptable

I didn't actually stay in the Queen Catherine Hotel, but was transferred to the Three Tuns Inn something to do with electricity but no real explanation. I booked a deluxe double room but the room (Room 1) was very small with the bedhead under the window and the noise of the cars parked directly underneath. Bathroom was very nice. The lady who greeted me was pleasant and welcoming, but as other reviewers have noted, some of the staff are rude.
The Wifi is really non-existent. The breakfast is apparently "complimentary" but it says £5 on the website which seems very cheap. But in any case there was absolutely nothing ready at 8am (Chef had been told at late notice) and because of time pressures I had to go without. All very strange and given the general disorganisation I could not recommend staying here.

Room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was very good.
We actually stayed in the Three Tuns pub across the road. The pub itself was closed and we seemed to be the only people staying in the building which was a little strange, particularly as the front door didn't seem very secure. We ordered breakfast in advance but weren't made aware of all the options and didn't really get what we had ordered. Young man who served at breakfast was pleasant enough .

We were put in a different hotel to the one we had booked and paid for. No explanation was given but the hotel we had booked was “closed for refurbishment” the day we arrived and reopened the day we left. Our bathroom was not clean, the bed uncomfortable and made such a noise whenever you moved it woke us up.

We refused to stay. Filthy room. Dirty sheets that hadn’t been changed . Someone’s bodily fluid still on the sheet in the middle of the bed! Dog footprints on the outer cover. No mattress protector and a blocked toilet including a poo stain. This room had not been cleaned. Rude staff accused us of it all!
We had only taken our bags to the room after being shown the room. Appalling and no refund from booking.com because they take the side of the hotel!
Avoid at all cost!!!!
There is nothing to like about this hotel! Shocking standards all round. The staff are well versed in dealing with complaints and are totally ready to accuse customers with their rude rude manner. We were told we are barred for life! One thing that I am pleased to be told!!
We immediately left this dreadful place. At no point did we give them any of our custom. They accused us of being drunk.. amazingly we had just driven 7 hours and just checked in. Laughable really.
The reply from booking.com was to reach out to the hotel for a refund.. what a joke. I suggest they use our £120 to invest in a good cleaner, better staff and perhaps reconsider if providing hospitality is really their forte.
Do yourselves a favour and book into the Golden Lion and ask for Christie. Directly across the road. Fabulous room, delightful breakfast and a real welcome.
I’m expecting a ridiculous response to my review. Look at the photos and make your own mind up!

Great location and good value. Food was quite good, and usual enormous Yorkshire portions. Room was very clean and comfortable.
Would have been nice to have had a more spacious room, but this was not a problem.

Breakfast orders were what we ordered. The staff went out of their way to go and buy marmalade (and very nice it was too). Even the dogs got a sausage. very good coffee
The bathroom was not very clean, and it was cramped. The room could have done with a good dust. But it is a country location and the location was just what we wanted

The room and bathroom are done really nicely. I needed to change my date and the hotel were accommodating to that.
The bathroom wasn’t cleaned except for an ocean of bleach thrown down a dirty toilet, no toilet roll, water glasses were dirty and had clearly just been rinsed out from the previous guests. Went down at about 7:30 pm for a drink and the pub was in darkness and locked up, I hadn’t expected that. It’s a shame as it could be lovely with a bit more care and cleaning.
