Hikkaduwa backyard beach homestay

The location is very good. And the hosts were super amazing! The lady named Lalitha is exceptionally warm and caring. I had a very bad headache from the sun one day and she got me ice cream in the room. She even gave me a head massage and one morning took me for grocery shopping in the local market. She is very lovely and always greets you with respect and care. The meals they serve are cooked by her and offer huge portions. And also the elderly couple is very helpful. You can also rent a scooter from their property itself. The room was clean. The washroom is shared but super clean. And the price is perfect for a budget trip! I will recommend it to all the people I know who are traveling to Sri Lanka!

A very special place to stay with a very nice family. Highly recommended. Walk on to the beach from the backyard. Walk along the beach inlow season and have it almost all to yourself.

The property has a great location, a spacious room, a beachfront setting, comfortable beds, and is situated in a safe area.

There were far too many persistent attempts by the elderly host and hostess to upsell and cross-sell their services. During the check-in They hardly allowed me any personal space and were constantly trying to sell additional products and services. I am not against business or promoting services, but it should be done within reasonable limits. Next morning, Even when I went to the toilet, the host approached me at the toilet door asking whether I needed breakfast. A host should exercise a little patience and respect guests' privacy. They even entered my room while I was in the toilet, which was a serious violation of my privacy. The charges for using the washing machine were never disclosed in advance. I was later charged LKR 1,500, which is comparable to the rates of a professional laundry service. The washing was done entirely by me, using my own detergent. The host also claimed that food outside was overpriced and encouraged me to eat their homemade meals instead. In reality, the food prepared by the hosts was significantly overpriced—roughly double the normal market rate. I am not new to Sri Lanka and am familiar with the typical prices of food items. I do not eat fish or any seafood, and I clearly informed the hosts of this from the beginning. Despite being informed of my dietary preferences, I was repeatedly asked whether I wanted fish and was frequently offered for fish curry meals. I recall being asked around eight times during my stay. After repeatedly explaining the same thing, it became quite irritating and frustrating. A homestay should provide a comfortable and welcoming experience, not operate like a sales-driven hotel. On the positive side, the property has an excellent location, a spacious room, a beachfront setting, and comfortable beds. Unfortunately, the hosts' constant sales tactics greatly affected my experience and turned what could have been an enjoyable stay into an annoying and utterly disappointing one.
