A comfy convenient place to stay.

I stayed at this hotel to attend an event at the Guild Hall. This was an excellent, central location. The staff were friendly; they gave me directions and instructions for using the room and building keys.

When you check out in the morning you are on your own as the pub is closed. I double-checked that I had all my belongings to avoid being locked out with any of my stuff being accidentally left behind.

The Pub was in the centre of town and had free parking, easy walking distance to shops, restaurants, cathedral and 20 minutes from the Swan Theatre. Good value for money. We had Sunday lunch which was very good. The room was small but ideal for a 2 night stay.

More towel rails, please, a hook or two on the back of the door and a hand rail over the bath to help get in and out of the shower. The sealant around the bath and between wall tiles definitely needs replacing. There seemed to be no access to the pub from the rooms so had to go outside to get to the main door.

The 32 steep steps to top floor, lack of hanging space. Only a dribble from shower. Unable to access bar area either for a drink or breakfast. Only way was to exit by fire door and walk round to main entrance. Toilet paper poor quality.

Basic and very hot!!

Room was small and far too hot, heating came on despite being told it wouldn't, couldn't turn radiator down , so had to open windows wide so heard all the noise from outside, plus bin men came each day to empty the bins and the noise would wake anyone up wishing a lie in! There is a chiller unit at the back of the pub that runs on and off all night so it can be heard, even with the windows closed. Three flights of stairs , Room 1 not suited to anyone with mobility issues . Rooms need updating, but very clean. No breakfast available but plenty of places nearby. Entrance is via the back of the pub. Not oat milk available despite asking and was told to go and buy my own but couldn't keep it cold as room just too hot and no fridge in the room. No information pack , no information regarding fire exits and things like that. Bathroom fan extremely loud so if you want a bath you would have to have it in the dark as there is no light outside either. . Nowhere to sit in the room apart from the beds, which were uncomfortable and pillows very flat. Window latches not good and can only open them wide as the bottom half of the latches are missing.

Terrible place - no chance of a decent review.

Location

Where do I start? This is a smelly, unloved, unkempt pub that hasn’t been upgraded for many years. I have photos to prove the disgusting state of the place. Shower doors don’t close, black mould on ceiling above shower; filthy cover on only stool in bedroom (no chair). Old-fashioned iron bedsteads on two single beds; grotty carpet, owner’s back terrace, visible from window opposite my room, full of rubbish and big dog dog shit everywhere. An absolute disgrace of a place that should not be advertised Booking.com. The only saving grace was the charming bar manager, Matt. No hot water on my last night and none the following morning either. Nobody on site to address the situation. Never again. Put me right off ever using booking.com again. £260 for 3 nights was poor value for money. Very disappointed.

The lady stand-in manager was very helpful and got the manager in to try and sort out the shower which wasn't working effectively (very weak pressure and barely luke warm)

I was promised a refund for our stay from the manager because he couldn't get us into another hotel, but I have still not received it ~ 1 month later after having messaged the venue through booking.com

Beautiful Inn, fantastic location and very friendly and accommodating owners!

The property is right in the city centre. Beautiful Inn with a very friendly atmosphere. The owners were great and made check/ check out very easy. We ate in the bar and portion size was huge and very good value for money! The property is full of character being built in the 16th century and it was lovely to stay in a room with wooden beams! The road outside was quiet at night being a dead end with no cut through for traffic.

The beds were not comfortable unfortunately as the bed frames were made of metal and were very hard. It would be good if they were replaced with wood frames. I believe the room next door did have wooden beds though. Otherwise, everything else was perfect.

RIGHT LOCATION, ACCOMMODATION IN NEED OF ATTENTION.

THE LOCATION WAS VERY CENTRAL TO TOWN AND RIVER,

THE CAR PARKING 'AREA' WAS VERY TIGHT FOR SPACE AND SHARED WITH MANY OTHER BUSINESSES. WI-FI VERY POOR SIGNAL. THE ACCOMMODATION NEEDED UPGRADING, BED MATTRESSES NEED TOPPERS FOR MORE COMFORT, THE SHOWER FLOW WAS INSUFFICIENT, THE SHOWER DRAIN OUTLET NEEDED A 'SPRING CLEAN' AND THE ROOM (2) DOOR LOCK NEEDS ATTENTION. THE FIRE DOOR EXIT ON THE TOP FLOOR WAS PERMANENT PROPTED OPEN WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER!

Location was okay - very close to City Centre. We didn't stay for breakfast.

A humming noise and vibration from something below our room ( No.1). It stopped for one or two minutes then started up again for several minutes throughout the night. As a result, we were both unable to have any restful sleep.

Loved the pub and the food. Staff exceptional. It's very basic, but exactly what we expected. Like staying at your nans! It ain't fancy! Furniture dated but comfortable Homely If you want pristine, modern, it's not for you. If you fussy, then it's not for you, but we absolutely loved it! Given a key to back door for after closing time. Easy to get in and out. Within yards of main shopping area, outlook on church. Pub very old, wooden beams. Lunch time food exceptional and value for money. Think this is a pub used mainly by locals as it's tucked away up a small, car free lane. Loved it, but as I said not for everyone who wants luxury.

A nice old fashioned inn, full of character.

The room was perfectly adequate for our needs. if a little basic. The location is ideal for the city centre and it was nice to stay in a quirky old building with lots of character.

It would have been nice if breakfast had been available, but as there were plenty of cafes in the vicinity it was not a major problem. The street lighting outside our room window made it difficult to sleep.
