Historical facts
The building’s courtyard has served different purposes in its long history and maybe its most known use was as a wool factory around the middle of the 19th century. If you look at the building from the street, you will see a big plaque with a bust above. This is to commemorate a terrible fact that happened at this same building on 25 October 1867 when a group of around forty patriots gathered in via della Lungaretta 97, Giulio Ajani's wool factory, to prepare cartridges, restock the rifles of their arsenal, and be ready to support Garibaldi, in what they thought would be an imminent attack on Rome against the government of Pope Pius IX. At around half past twelve, a platoon of Papal Zouaves attacked the wool-mill building. The conspirators tried to resist the fire but, within a short time, the papal troops had the better of the situation, and managed to take the building. In the fire, nine people were killed, amongst whom, Giuditta Tavani Arquati, pregnant with her fourth child, her husband and their young son.

This apartment is also great if you want to enjoy Trastevere's lively nightlife.

The area is very busy with people all day, lots of restaurants and gelato right next to the entry. It was great to see all the people and happenings and still be able to retreat to a quiet apartment above it where you couldn’t hear them anymore. The apartment itself was good for our group of adults and kids, plenty of places to sleep. Our host was very responsive to any questions and made the checkin and out process very easy.
