You’ll see deer, wild turkeys, birds of all kinds, and other wild things. After grilling your favorite dish, don’t miss the western sky as it comes alive with a million twinkling stars while the coyotes and owls serenade you.

YOUR HOUSE is a charming 100 year old farm house (two bedrooms, one and a half baths-- 8 beds) that we have updated—and continue to update, including the 42 inch tv with DIRECTV. It has a WRAP-AROUND PORCH with your grill and picnic table in the back yard--on the west side, the perfect place to take in the sunset in the big western sky.

BEDS
Master bedroom has a queen bed, back bedroom has 4 twin xl beds (two twins can be turned into a king with advance notice) plus a sleeper sofa in the living room.. Sleeps a total of 8 people. The barn next door with its 3000 square foot second floor has been turned into an indoor/outdoor space for all guests at the ranch and has sitting areas and rugs, and functions as a third bedroom with 4 roll-out beds for those (usually kids) who want to listen to the sounds of the night. Please note-sleeping in the barn is like sleeping outside as the windows have no glass. Bringing sleeping bags is a good idea if you have guests interested in sleeping in the barn.

Weatherford is only 10 minutes away and Granbury is only 20 minutes away; both have great restaurants. And this close to Fort Worth, you could actually commute and have a ranch to come home to at night-- note the lower pricing mid-week!
We offer discounts for weekly stays.

COMANCHE HISTORY
Go hunting for arrowheads and petrified wood. The COMANCHE were quite active up and down this part of the Brazos even when the earliest settlers arrived around 1850, and until the Comanches' eventual conquest by the Texas Rangers and their Colt pistols around 1870; we have found lots of flint and some arrowheads on high places here. Going further back in history, the Double F River Ranch has an abundance of petrified wood; they say that if you have fossilized sea shells you were under water, but if you have petrified wood you had land creatures. Hunting for petrified wood is a fun adventure here. (But leave them for the next person to discover!)

My hubby and I stayed at the ranch house for 3 nights and had an absolute blast! The most fun we’ve had in a while! The barn cat became our new bestie.

The farmhouse is original, very rustic and quiet. The house (including the fridge) was very clean. The barnyard is a short walk down hill from the farmhouse and the experiences with all the animals was great fun - donkeys, chickens, sheep, horses, cats...etc. The farmhouse is very close to the barn with the cats and learning to rope a cow. It is also located on the road to get to the Brazos river - the farmhouse is at the top of the hill so keep that in mind to walk or drive down to the river. River is walkable so bring river shoes (Crocs worked great). Temperature in early March was above average (mid 70s to mid 80s). Window A/C units had a difficult time making the house cooler at night for sleeping but given it wasn't too hot outside it was fairly comfortable. While there is tv available, we did not use it since there was always something fun to be doing outside. Overall a very memorable getaway
