We had a great time during our 3 night stay at Carnelian Bay. For two families with 3 teens, the layout of this townhouse was just right. We loved being able to walk easily to the beach and swim in Lake Tahoe. We also took a 6.5 mile hike one day right from there without getting in the car. In the townhouse, the table was big enough for board games and shared meals. We managed with the seating available in the living room - a loveseat and two comfortable chairs. The kitchen is on the small side. Two was the max number of chefs and even that was crowded. The unit is showing some wear and tear - some stains on the carpet. One burner on the stove didn't work while we were there - the property manager had ordered replacement parts. The property manager was responsive and helped us right away with a missing extension cord so that one of the lights would work in the living room and fixed a toilet seat that was broken when we arrived. Bears in the parking lot was a real thing. We saw two different ones around dusk while we were there. So pay attention to the property manager's guidelines about co-existing with bears. One of our favorite parts about the townhouse was that the view out of the biggest windows was into the forest, so we had the sense of being farther away from things than we really were.

We take family trips to Lake Tahoe every year. This has been a pretty spot to stay at because everything is so close. The lake is like 5 minutes away in car but you could go walking as well. It was a bit hard to find the town houses. We did how ever had a not so friendly experience when we went to enjoy the pool we felt discriminated by the guy there when we arrived but other than that we highly recommend this place. We are completely satisfied.

Modest. It's got all the amenities listed, although the knives were a little blunt. Great that it's a walk to Carnelian Bay.

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was clean. I was very happy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Overall our experience with this rental was ok, but slightly disappointing. The management company communicated well, booking and check-in was an easy process, and a minor issue with the kitchen range was handled promptly and professionally. Location is convenient to the lake and north shore attractions, but far enough off the main road to provide for peach and quite. We visited in the shoulder season, so expected some amenity limitations (e.g. pool closed); however, we were disappointed that almost all of the advertised development amenities were either not open or severely limited in hours. A simple inclusion of this info in the welcome email would have set expectations and prevented disappointment. The biggest factor impacting our experience was the outdated and worn furniture, kitchen utensils/appliances, and Motel 6 quality bath towels. The dishwasher was falling apart, the toaster barely worked, the random mishmash of kitchen utensils left much to be desired, and some of the items looked as if they had been in use since the late 80s. When we rent a place with a kitchen, we intend to use it and want the experience to be more akin to cooking at home than making due with leftovers from the thrift store. Did it keep us warm, dry, and safe? Yes. Were there positive aspects? Yes. Could you find a better overall experience in the area for a similar price? Very likely. We have stayed at many similar mountain town rentals across the west and unfortunately this was our least favorite due to the aforementioned issues.
