About this farm stay rental
Located 5 miles west of La Farge, Wisconsin in the heart of the Kickapoo Valley is lodging by the day or week on a 300 acre beef ranch. At all times of the year there is a population ranging from 50-300 head of cows and calves. The bunkhouse is a renovated 100 year old two story farmhouse with 2 baths and 5 bedrooms. It sits atop a high ridge overlooking the Kickapoo Valley below. It's located only a few miles from the Kickapoo Valley Reserve and borders the Mississippi Valley Conservatory. It is not a luxury rental, rather a clean, old farmstead in a beautiful ranch surroundings. If you are looking for a reasonable place to stay while you enjoy the rural atmosphere, this could be the place for you! It is fully furnished and available for a small or large group.
Have a clean place to stay while you tap the resources of the area. Hunting, trout fishing, bicycling, snowmobiling, skiing, horseback riding, kayaking, outdoor activities are all available in the area. Simply bring your own food and beverages. Sit out in the backyard and enjoy the scenery while grilling out on outdoor grill or around an open campfire. Firewood will be provided. All linens, cooking utensils, kitchen and eating materials, stove, refrigerator, towels, housekeeping materials are provided. TV and DVD for movies and internet with free WiFi as of March 24th, 2017. A lot of peace and quiet. Fine restaurants, all denomination churches, hospitals are close.

We enjoyed our stay at the Bar W Ranch. I'm not sure we would have booked it if we (4 older ladies) had known how difficult it would be to get from the parking area to the entry. We were hauling luggage and bags through grass and uphill. The staircase is very steep to the second floor where 4 of the 5 bedrooms are. Also, unusual was there wasn't any aluminum foil, or plastic wrap. The living room furniture needs to be replaced, terribly uncomfortable again, we are older. The AC in the upper bedroom makes too much noise to be able to sleep thru the night. The Host was sweet and attentive.

The property owners were attentive. Plenty of space outside and in. We were very comfortable and had a lovely time.

The lovely owner was there to meet us at check-in. The house is quite literally on a cattle ranch, so there is cattle ranching work going on almost constantly. Our stay was in March, so the vegetation was not lush and green as shown in the picture. The house is an old farmhouse, and you should expect the quirks that come along with it. The upstairs bathroom toilet was having some issues flushing, but nothing that we couldn't deal with. There was open and good communication with the owner about this during our stay. The downstairs bathroom is very tiny, has an accordion plastic door right off the kitchen, and contains the only shower. It was entirely pleasant trying to get cleaned up in there. There were plenty of towels, kitchen supplies, and bedding. There was not a coffee grinder though, so bring ground coffee with you. My spring allergies flared up while we were there, probably from the hay bales on the ranch. We had a nice fire one night. Chairs and firewood are provided by the owner. Overall, we had a lovely weekend with family at The Bunkhouse.
