About this cottage rental
This cabin is a Family Treasure. Built as the original vacation cabin on Island Lane, road created by my Dad (retired professor from UVA) fifty years ago. Great Smith Mountain Lake location! Right on the main channel adjacent to lake marker R-8 where the Roanoke and Blackwater Rivers meet.
Recently renovated 1st floor, kitchen & bathroom. Expansive lake view with exquisite sunsets are yours for the taking. Peek at the lake from every window direction, face the lake from the deck (like on a boat, and could step out into the water) and just a few steps below will take you to a private stationary dock, where boats can be parked. A few steps up off the upper deck will lead you to perfect views of the July 4th holiday fireworks from Saunders Parkway Marina. Brand new upgrade features a double mini-split ductless heat pump system provides clean, efficient AC, and heat. Please note: Vacation rental guests do bring their own Bed linens and Towels.

The SML views and access to the lake from the dock were what brought us back to this rental for our second stay. Jumping off the dock, kayaking, just floating and swimming, and the Amazing sunsets were…as my granddaughter said, “This is what vacation is all about!” Laura was very quick with her responses to any questions and went out of her way to ensure everything went smoothly. New AC units definitely kept us cool! Slept great in the beds. Kitchen and bathroom well stocked. We will definitely book again!

Wish we had one more day! If we did not have to be back to teach children church on Sunday we definitely would have left Sunday. It is a perfect place for a quick, short vacation to getaway from the city and enjoy the beauty of Gods creation.

First impressions are everything, we did have good communication with the owner however we arrived 30 minutes prior to our check in time and the cleaning lady showed up right after us so we returned shortly after 4 and she was sitting in her car. The property needs a deep cleaning, (it appears she did barely anything) and overall has been neglected. I will not discuss every small detail because there were a lot! Bad on my part, I did not read the property description all the way to the bottom where it states that sheets and towels are not provided, this should be part of the amenity list, (we have stayed in a lot of AirBnB's and they have always been provided) no big deal we found some 20 minutes up the road. One safety issue, the stairs down to the dock are in need of an update and will be an issue soon if not completely replaced. Also it would have been good to know that the lake is 6 feet low and the dock is unusable for a boat. I would stay there again and would not tell anyone that they should not however the property needs some TLC!
