It was a fantastic apartment and it fit our family of four just perfectly ! The unit is well equipped and we appreciated the beach chairs, towels and boogie boards. It was great to have a washer and dryer on site. The kitchen was well stocked. We also liked the pool and BBQ area.

The Kona Makai is a fantastic complex. The pool, hot tub, and oceanside BBQ are such a great part of the stay. The apartment is lovely. Well furnished with comfortable furniture and beds. The upstairs loft was perfect for our teen son. Parking at the condo is easy. The management company is easy to work with, prompt in their responses, and friendly. The unit has beach equipment, like chairs and boogie boards which makes that part of the stay easy. As far as location goes, it was perfect. Close to town, with easy access to restaurants, groceries and the beaches. The apartment is on the top floor of three floors with no elevator, but that was not a problem for us. As far as the rules go, they didn't bother us. They seemed like common sense courtesies that make staying in the buildings more enjoyable for everyone. The whole stay was relaxing and fun. We look forward to staying here again!

This condo was perfect for our 10 day stay with two teens. A quiet building with beautiful ocean views. The condo was very clean had everything we could have needed including beach chairs, snorkel gear, tennis rackets, boogie boards, cooler, beach umbrella, plus a kitchen with everything we needed. We also used the tennis courts and pool a few times which were all clean and very well maintained. The location was a quick 5 minute drive to all the shops and restaurants but far enough away that we didn't have to deal with the noise/downtown clientele. Highly recommend this condo!!!

The property fit our family of 4 w two teens perfectly. It was beautifully decorated, and provided enough towels, bedding, etc. glad to have a washer and dryer on site. The kitchen was well stocked with basic items and seasonings. AC in bedrooms worked. Bed was a good size and comfortable enough. The gym weight equipment in the fitness room is pretty much rusted. Don’t get your hopes up if you wanted to use weights. Running along the main highway is your best option.

The condo itself was exactly as shown in pictures and we were happy with our unit. However, there are a lot of rules that I feel should be posted along with the rental info. Pool rules are pretty ridiculous, courts can not be used for pickle ball, and many long time residents/owners want to micromanage the complex and are not welcoming in the least. For these reasons, I have chosen to stay elsewhere next year.

Quiet and comfortable

My two teen boys and I enjoyed our stay. The twin beds and pool were a big draw. But there was such attention to detail. Great to have access to snorkeling and other beach gear and a few staples in the kitchen including Kona coffee. I would definitely stay here again. The only complaint was that some of the snorkel hear was getting a little old and worn out. We loved the breezes blowing through.

Kona Makai is kept up nicely! The unit we stayed in is in good condition. We found out that you cannot run all the air-conditioning and the oven without tripping the breaker to several other units. We really enjoyed our stay here!

What a lovely place. Situated right in town, yet very peaceful. The place is spacious and we had a perfect sunset view with dolphins swimming by. We love the lanai, the high ceilings, the comfortable bed and everything you need in the kitchen. It was the perfect place to celebrate our one year anniversary. Mahalo 🌺we will return.

Our stay on the property was amazing, nice an quiet. The amenities on the property was great an very useful. This was My first time to Kona an it was as exciting an so much fun here. The condo was very comfortable an plenty of room,just not enough bathrooms. I thought the room had 1-1/2 bathrooms. Other then it only having 1 full bath the stay was excellent. Thank u again for letting us stay with u guys we did take care of the room we stayed in as if it was our own home. Again Thank u an Thanks to the maid for her cleaning after everyone who visits the Kona makia residence. Mahalo an YHVH'S BLESSINGS TO U ALL.

The property and unit we stayed at was clean with basic essentials stocked. The washer and dryer in the unit came in handy. The check in and check out process was not hard. For the most part we enjoyed our stay. We were out enjoying the island most of the days but it was nice to come back and relax on the lawn chair in front of the ocean and enjoy the nice breeze.

Place was as described online plus. Location is a short walk to town and all it has to offer. Home and grounds are beautiful and well kept and place is easy to access. The added bonus of beach chairs, coolers, snorkel gear, tennis gear (though not used by us) was very convenient. Everything in the house was labeled so there was no searching for things to find what you needed a great time saver. Lanai has great views of gardens, pool and ocean. I would have no issues staying here again.

The property/gardens are beautiful. This is a great condo to unwind in at the end of the day. It is comfortable and has everything you need. I thoroughly enjoyed both lanais and the partial ocean views they provided. The pullout couch was one of the more comfortable that I have ever slept on! Thankful for the ac when the air was at a standstill, especially up in the loft. The complex has a few different gas grills along the ocean to use, a great pool/hot tub, and nice chairs to relax in along the ocean front. Very quiet for being right on Ali’i. I would stay again!

We had three lovely weeks in this very nice condo. When we arrived we felt like we were entering our own home. It is lovely and so many good things about it. Spacious and nice. The two Lanais gave us a feeling of being in Hawaii . The gardens are very beautifully kept and a joy to walk around in. Having the big TV's helped when we returned after a day at all the marvelous Beaches on The Big Island Of Hawaii. The Bathroom and the Master Bedroom were so comfy and we enjoyed the tropical breezes flowing through the Condo. The sound of the Ocean Waves lulled us to sleep The Kitchen was well stocked with all the right Pots and Pans and Dishes and cooking utensils. There was a shortage of Wine glasses! The outside BBQ section was great for cooking and watching the sunset. However, the kitchen is really showing its age, especially the dishwasher and the stove. It would be nice to see it upgraded. The beach equipment were plentiful and in good condition, we enjoyed the umbrella and the chairs when we visited the pretty beaches. Every thing was great and we had such a wonderful time that we booked again for next year. Thank you Bob and Karen for sharing your little part of Paradise with us. We so appreciate it. Rental was great and came with everything needed for a VRBO stay. Teen girls (16) loved the upstair loft with the twin beds. The main bedroom mattress was comfy. The patio lent for an awesome sunset view. Pool, hot tub and grill area were well kept. A very quiet time period so if you want to party - this isn’t the place but it’s a great retreat for those who want to party in downtown Kona and come back for some R&R. It was perfectly centered for distance to Hilo for the volcano or Hapuna Beach for sand and waves. It’s about 25 minutes to the Marina where we went with Torpedo Tours for 2 excursions. We definitely would recommend the condo. Awesome time.

We loved our room! We have four kids and it was the perfect family room. Our oldest girls loved the loft and the little two shared the fold out couch. There were three boogie boards, three snorkeling sets, water shoes, two coolers, two campfire type chairs and beach toys all available in the unit. We grilled almost every night and ate on the lanai which had ocean views. It was a wonderful vacation and we hate to leave!

We enjoyed Kona Makai. The location to downtown and being right on the ocean couldn't be better. We loved our cozy and private condo with a beautiful view of the ocean, it fit our family of 4 perfectly. We had meals on our lanai and used the grills quite often. The grounds are very well kept and lush with flowers and trees. Dawn is awesome, she answered all my questions and I will not hesitate to work with her again. The rules.....please be very mindful of Kona Makai's rules - they are strictly enforced. We knew of these mostly before we came, but didn't realize just how vocal the residents are. If you are going with children, please consider their ages and plan accordingly. The hot tub rule of no children under 14 is strictly enforced, as well as no balls of any sort in the pool. Quiet time is exactly at 9 pm, the manager comes around to make sure everyone is out of the pool and hot tub area. With that being said, we still had an amazing time.

Loved our stay at this condo. The condo was roomy enough for the family to gather and eat on the Lania. Pretty view of the grass area and a peak of the ocean. We were well warned about the 3 flights of stairs but they were manageable. The place was clean and bright. We appreciated the overflow of kitchen supplies. A closet at the entry filled with beach chairs, sand buckets, boogie boards for days at the beach. Thank you also for furnishing a High Chair and Pack and Play for our stay. Dawn was so responsive to our requests and questions before and during our stay. Thanks for our home away from home Kris

Loved the added touches.... coffee, beach gear, cooler. Laundry detergent etc.... Loft was very hot. One bathroom is tight for four people. Difficult to manoeuvre suitcase up the spiral staircase. Pool, hot tub and bbq were great! All in all....loved the location and balconies! Thank you

We stayed here for four nights. Dawn the property manager was very accommodating and helpful. We chose a unit on the 3rd floor, which in hindsight, was a little much for my 79 year old mother to navigate. However, being on the top floor was great from the privacy standpoint and the view of the ocean, sunsets, etc was really nice. The loft was nice, but people should know that the staircase is very narrow, so if you have a really large suitcase, you may want to leave it downstairs. The unit was very well equipped and there is lots of parking available. We were thankful for the little wagons to cart our gear and groceries between the car and the condo. Very helpful! We also liked being away from the crowded touristy areas on the other end of Ali'i drive. It was just a short drive from the condo, and there are pay by the hour parking lots there. This was a special mother-daughter trip and we had a wonderful time. We enjoyed staying here.

The condo was lovely, and Dawn, the manager was remarkably helpful and responsive. My son loved the loft bedroom. We really appreciated all the gear. We used the snorkel gear and boogie boards. We also enjoyed both the ping-pong table and tennis courts in the complex. All very positive. The only reason I'm taking one star off is because there were some tiny bugs in the kitchen that were pretty annoying. They really liked the basin of the coffee maker, and it was a pain to clean them out each morning before making coffee.

Very well maintained grounds with pool, hot tub and ping pong which was super! We used the boogie boards and cooler often. A very appreciated added touch! Enjoyed morning coffee on our deck or on the lawn chairs by the ocean. Very Good restaurants walking distance. Lava Java and Fosters both are healthy and source local. Huggo's in the evening is fun and directly on the ocean. The condo is clean, comfortable and very well stocked. Just an FYI , kitchen does not have tin foil or small baggies if your packing a snack for a hike and salt/pepper only for seasoning.. overall a wonderful experience and would return in a heart beat!
