Great Stay. We came for the April 2024 eclipse and worried that we heard horror stories of other travelers dealing with canceled reservations due to demand from the eclipse. Not Lori -- she was aware of the possibility of short term gain, but as she said, she does not operate that way. We appreciate her integrity, and also how cordial and helpful she is as the property host. House is great -- all that is advertised. We loved the scenery in the Texas hill country and enjoyed the surrounding areas including Fredericksburg. The scnery on the property -- wildflowers and Cactus plants, as well as the horses and the cat, were great. We recommend this property, and Lori, without hesitation. If you're looking to get away and enjoy Texas hill country, look no further!

Lori Sanders is a gracious and warm hostess. She answered all questions prior to our arrival. We walked into our Vrbo to be welcomed by wine, fruit, meat and cheese (which we snacked on all week-end!). The entire house was comfortable and met all our needs. We all especially LOVED the back porch where we could observe deer and birds, including hummingbirds. I highly recommend this Vrbo if you are looking for a serene place to unwind!

This was my second girl’s weekend at this property- just a different group of friends (co-workers) this time. I knew that I could trust the home to be clean, which is so important these days, and to have everything we needed. It is in the country, which is part of the charm, so it is over 20 miles into Fredericksburg. We didn’t mind the nice drive into town and looked forward to returning to our home for the weekend. We especially enjoyed the bird watching on the back deck. Our hostess, Lori, is such a nice person; she started our weekend off by providing a cheese and meat tray, a bowl of fresh fruit and 2 bottles of local wine. She was also available to us to help out with the DVD player one evening when we couldn’t figure it out - she gave us a quick tutorial. We all enjoyed our weekend so much! It was just what we needed. It’s easy to say that I’ll be back for another weekend. Thanks for everything!!!

We had a great weekend. The house was great and had everything we needed. It was really nice to meet Lori and we had the best time walking around the property and watching the animals. Big variety of birds to watch and the multiple feeders bring them all to the back porch area where we sat and tried to identify all of them while we were having our coffee. Thanks again to Lori!

If you want to get away from it all, then this is the place to go. Only 30 or so minutes away from Fredrickburg and very quiet. Great amenities and very clean. Try the Longhorn Cafe in Harper too.

Lori has decorated and provisioned this beautiful place not as a vacation rental, but as her own home. From directions that were accurate to the fraction of a mile and the welcome wine and cheese tray, to actually stopping by to check if everything was ok ( it was absolutely fine), she definitely went the extra mile making us comfortable. Located in the middle of a ranch, this place has all the amenities of a big city along with the opportunity to enjoy wildlife and farm animals right outside your window. The deck in the front is perfect for stargazing at night, and the back one for birdwatching in the day. Definitely one to visit again!

From the moment, we arrived, we felt so comfortable and at home. The house was nicely decorated and immaculate. We were completely blown away by the warm welcome we received from Lori. Awaiting our arrival was a welcome tray of cheeses and meats and crackers, a large bowl of fresh fruit and wine! Sitting on the back porch in the evening, watching the sun go down and the deer feeding in the pastures was so tranquilizing. We never felt so comfortable, so at peace. We will surely be back.

The location was far enough out of the way for the privacy and quite that we were looking for, yet it was no more than 30 minutes away from Kerrville. My Mother-in-law really enjoyed watching the deer every day. The kitchen was outfitted better than any other retreat we have ever rented. It was clean and comfortable. We will consider using this place again.

Perfect place to get away and relax with the family getting our teenage children to interact with the family instead of devices. Great distance from town where there were plenty of things to do. The kitchen was well stocked and we even had two bottles of wine a delicious meat and cheese tray and crackers waiting for us when we arrived.

This is a great spot and this is the second time I’ve stayed here. It’s great with the kids, or just as a quiet getaway without the kids. Far enough away from everything that you can’t hear traffic or any other ambient noise from a city. No streetlights nearby so you can see all the stars. I highly recommend this place and Lori has been the best. I can’t say enough good things, I love it here.

We were looking for a place to relax, have our children come out to visit, and be able to visit surrounding places of interest. Darla's Getaway fit the bill. Lori was an excellent host who was available close by to provide any information or help you might need. Wildlife to watch from a covered deck, short drives to San Antonio, Fredericksburg, Boerne, wineries, and breweries. We were very satisfied with our chose. Highly recommend since it provides both a need to get away, but close enough to enjoy day trips.

4.5 stars We had a great time just sitting around the firepit and visiting in the mornings and evenings! We enjoyed the birds the goats and deer. We were greeted with wine and cheese tray that was very nice. The house was just as described. It says sleeps 8. And it can however the beds are a queen a double and a twin, the other is an air mattress and couch. We would definitely return and or recommend it to others in the area.

We had a delightful girl's weekend! We didn't mind the beautiful drive back and forth from Harper into Fredericksburg as we just got to see more of the hill country. The wine and cheese/meat/olive tray was great! You had everything and much more than we needed at your hide away especially in the kitchen. It was also nice to meet you, Lori, and your husband. If back in the area, we would definitely stay at your nice, quiet and lovely property.

We have done a girls weekend ( my mom,me and my 2 girls) twice and it was perfect. You wake up in this huge home, beautifully decorated, in the country. We go th Fredericksburg , shop, eat, sight see and come back and enjoy the huge covered back porch. We love that there are birds and deer and peaceful beauty. We will return again and again! What a wonderful Thanksgiving vacation with our family! There were four adults and two children and there was plenty of room for all. We were completely comfortable. I can't say enough wonderful things about Darla's Getaway. It was our home away from home for five nights. This home is completely stocked with all the utensils and necessities you will need. No need to bring anything except for your food. Peaceful and quiet. We spent our days in Kerrville, Comfort and Fredericksburg shopping and when we returned in the afternoons we would sit on the back porch of the home watch the birds fly in and feed out of the many feeders, watch the goats and deer meander in the pastures and the evenings were spent by the fire pit relaxing. The owners are the nicest, most accommodating, friendliest people you will ever meet. We can't wait to get back to the hill country and enjoy this wonderful getaway.

The cabin experience was great! Lori was a great host and the communication was also beyond expectations. The cabin is about 30 minutes from Fredericksburg and very peaceful. You can see the deer during the day and stars at night. I recommended the location for families or for friends trying to get away and enjoy a weekend away from the city. We were two families looking for a quiet getaway with kiddos and wanted to be semi close to Fredericksburg. This place was perfect. So much space, we had 5 children and 4 adults and we never felt crowded. We spent all our meals out on the back patio enjoying the breeze and atmosphere. The wine and cheese/meat tray were a great touch. We also got to feed the horse some carrots before we left (kids loved that). We really enjoyed our stay. It was perfect.

Our family enjoyed our stay at this home outside of Fredericksburg. It was very clean, well maintained, comfortable and peaceful with many different types of birds close to the home We were greeted with a wonderful plate of cheese/meats and a bottle of wine which were provided by the owner. It was a great sight when we arrived as we had driven all night from Dallas. We also own VRBOs in Colorado and this home was truly a great place for our family. It was fun to visit Fredericksburg and then to come back and relax. The kitchen was very well stocked and was able to easily cook dinner/breakfast for the family. We loved relaxing in nature without feeling isolated. Lori is a wonderful host. After a long drive, we were able to relax with the meat and cheese tray and a glass of wine - and the wine was good. We had all the conveniences of home and all the rooms were roomy and well appointed. We enjoyed visiting wineries and getting our fill of German food. We would definitely enjoy spending more time here sitting on the back deck sipping wine and watching all the birds, lots of goats, and a few deer. I have never before felt the kind of hospitality Lori extended to us. I hesitate to tell people how peaceful it was here for fear of not having it available when I have another opportunity for a visit.
