About this house rental

No matter if you wake up early or like to sleep in – you will love having breakfast in the southern corner of our large deck. There you will feel the first sunrays warming your face and enjoy your morning coffee. If you’re not in a rush you will probably pop down to the sea for a morning swim. After the refreshing dip in the ocean, you can just sit in the corner, sipping your coffee and smelling the honeysuckle and the roses in the pergola while you watch your kids play. Maybe they play a quick football game in the garden or they have a round of table tennis at the table at another corner of our deck, before you all head out for the day’s activities.

You have plenty of activities to choose from. Of course you don’t want to miss seeing Stockholm – and that is so easily done with our house as your base and home. If you rented a car, Stockholm is only 30-40 minutes away, depending on where you want to go. Or maybe you chose to spend the day in the archipelago – taking the Waxholm-ferries from one of the old steamboat-quays (there is one at walking distance but most ferries leave from Vaxholm, 10 minutes away in car). You just have to see Stockholm from the water – it’s amazingly beautiful! If you take the ferry into the city center, you get to see both the archipelago and the city center from the water – so worth it. And if you know your way around boats, you might want to rent your own?

On other days of your vacation you will probably want to relax and hang out at home. Actually, you will find it so lovely that it will be hard to leave for the excursions you had planned… Some days you might just move from the sunbed to the sunchair to the hammock – changing your view so that you sometimes look out over the water and see the big cruise ships compete with lots of sailing boats, and sometimes you look out at the garden, full of summer flowers, birds and bees. Every now and then you have to cool off, so you get up from the sunbed to walk some 200 m to get down to the ocean, where you either jump in from the quay or walk in from the small beach. (We don't have a beach front property, the beach access is public but very close to our house).

When it’s time for dinner, you will find that our Weber BBQ is a great place to hang out around. If you’re not up for cooking, we have two excellent restaurants on the island. Or plenty more in Vaxholm. You will also want to go to Vaxholm during the day – Vaxholm is a picturesque town in the heart of the Stockholm archipelago. The town was founded in the 14th century and has for hundreds of years been the backbone in the defense of Stockholm from attacks by sea. Today it is the center of marine activities in the archipelago and a popular high end residential suburb of Stockholm. Vaxholm municipality consists of a total of 57 islands and our house is located at one of the largest ones - Resarö (the island has car access). In Vaxholm you will of course have a Swedish “fika” at one of the cafés and maybe play a round of minigolf. And you should take small ferry out to the fortress Vaxholms Kastell.

When the days get too lazy you could use one of the two tennis courts by the Pavillion, only 500 meters from our house. Or you could work out in our small gym, maybe after going for a run around the island or in the Killingen forest. Alternatively, you could opt for a round of golf at Vaxholm Golfklubb or play padel tenis at Eriksö. Or why not rent canoes or kayaks at Vaxholm Kanotsällskap? You will of course take a long walk in our beautiful natural reserve forests Killingen and/or Bogesund, and when there you can’t miss checking out the Bogesund castle. An alternative exercise is to go on a biking tour – we leave a bunch of bikes for you to use.

Even if you will probably mostly hang out in our garden or at our deck, you will find plenty of social space inside our house as well. The kitchen is very large, and fully equipped. We have 5 doors connecting our downstairs with the garden and the deck, so the border between inside and outside will disappear.

And if you need some time alone, there are lots of places to escape to – both inside the house and in the garden. Maybe you will stop by our berry bushes and pick some fresh strawberries? Or you will grab a beer, and go and sit in the evening sunshine by the street, looking at all the joggers running by. Or, why not sweat away in the sauna, where you also have a marvelous view of the sea.

If you’re unlucky with the weather, there is plenty of space for your extended family/friends to hang out inside. We have a huge dinner table, fitting 10 persons easily and some more if you cram it a bit. You have two TV-lounges, one larger downstairs and one smaller upstairs. You could also light a fire in the garden fireplace and give the kids some marshmallows to fry.

When it comes to privacy, the 3 full bathrooms will give everyone their own space. And each bedroom has good closet space, and of course comfortable beds. In addition, there is a separate guest house with another full bathroom, small kitchenette and sleeping loft, sleeping a total of 2-3 persons. Please note, the guest house is not always available, please ask before booking.

Our architect created a house that is “classic on the outside – modern on the inside”. The plot is 1500 m2 (16,150 ft2) of garden and a large wooden deck surrounds 3 sides of the house, which is 220 m2 (2400 ft2), built in 2011. The house has stunning sea views from both floors, and you will see the cruise ships passing by in the distance.

We are seasoned travelers ourselves and we love to discover new places. Often we rent a flat/house where we go and we love to get the “real feel” for a place, not just the touristy hotel parts. We hope you will feel the same when staying at our house. This house is our home, so we are primarily looking for guests during holiday times, such as July-August and Christmas and Easter time, and it's important to us that our guests take care of our house as if it was their own.

We would love to welcome you to stay here. Come explore the Swedish archipelago and Stockholm while being comfortable in our home!

Lovely property with everything you would need. Great to have so many bathrooms and the outhouse for our eldest to have their own space. Pia was really approachable and friendly. We didn't have any issues but would have felt comfortable bringing anything up if needed.

We really enjoyed our stay at this house! It was spacious, peaceful and homey. The beds were comfortable and the four bathrooms were great for our multi-generational group of nine people. We liked the location and the facilities. We had brought two bikes with us and were pleased to find several more at the property available for our use. We barbecued two or three time on the large, gas Weber. We had family dinners at the big table inside as well as on the large outside table. Pia and Gisli were very communicative and helpful, quickly responding to our questions and providing suggestions for places to visit during our week. We visited several beaches in the area and went hiking and kayaking, in addition to our bicycle excursions The lived-in character of the house was a plus for us, as we found books and games that our little one enjoyed.

This is a beautiful home surrounded by lovely gardens, and it has a view over the Baltic Sea, especially from the 2nd floor common room and balcony. Instructions from the owners were clear and detailed -- a good idea to print the out before arriving, since you'll want to refer to them frequently! The kitchen was well stocked with pans, utensils, etc. as well as spices. My brother loved riding the bicycles in the neighborhood. Some of the bedrooms would not have been comfortable for older couples (e.g. bunk beds and a high loft), but for the 4 of us the accommodations were just right. Easy access to the grocery store and to Vaxholm and its ferries.

We spent a covid Xmas, in itself a challenge, with what became a reduced family at this location. We were assured in advance that the internet/ WiFi connections were totally adequate and that the guest cottage, where my wife and I would be staying, was comfortable. The main house we found basically to be superb, well furnished and inviting and was fully enjoyed by our daughter and her family. The only downside was a nonworking Internet connection due to a malfunctioning router which we did not suspect nor were equipped to remedy. Luckily, there was a spare which our son-in-law, computer-wise, could couple in after conversation with the owner the following day. As regards the guest cottage, the space and facilities were fine. One of the beds was broken, and it was repaired the day after. But here as well internet was non-existent and remained so until our last night when our son-in law once again discovered that the connections were wrongly plugged in. Made for little contact with our other daughter who lived in London and whose flight had been cancelled. So, in all, a very mixed bag. I believe the owners wish their renters well and this was an unfortunate series of developments. Still I would recommend better attention to details and promises in the future
