River Cottage is a typical Galloway terraced cottage and stands across from the lovely River Bladnoch, with a children’s play area 110 yards away. It offers a cosy interior and a lovely enclosed garden with views over open farmland beyond. Whilst retaining the outward appearance of a Galloway cottage, the interior has been completely updated making it a comfortable holiday retreat. A lovely wood burning stove in the lounge is particularly attractive. The garden is a delight for both dogs and children being completely enclosed and there are facilities to wash bikes outside.

Set in a quiet location in a row of houses, the cottage is a short stroll from the country pub and restaurant, and within a few minutes’ drive of Wigtown, the Book Town, and close to Newton Stewart where there are many excellent shops and places to eat. With the Galloway Forest and Dark Skies Park close by, the cottage is ideally placed to explore the beauty of south west Scotland. Perfect for walkers, golfers and cyclists, with Glentrool, Kirroughtree and the 7Stanes mountain bike trails nearby, as well as a great choice of golf courses. There is an abundance of fishing, bird watching, beautiful and exotic gardens, many rocky coves, sandy beaches and quaint villages to explore along the Machars Peninsula.

Wow, what a stunning cottage and garden.
Wow, what a stunning cottage and garden.
Wow, what a stunning cottage and garden. Sympathetically renovated to a very high standard creating a welcoming, homely retreat. An ideal base to explore from and a pleasure to return to at the end of a busy day. River cottage is ultra clean, not a sign that dogs have been on holiday too. Cosy and comfortable with everything you could possibly need for a self catering holiday. The owners were really helpful with information for our arrival and could be contacted by mobile if necessary. Our dogs were well catered for too. Both the cottage and garden are extremely dog friendly, they had a brilliant time. We enjoyed the gentle walks from Garliston to Rigg Bay and St Ninian's cave near the Isle of Whithorn. There is a Co-Op in Wigtown and two larger supermarkets in Newton Stewart where there is also two garages for fuel. The local people are warm, friendly and happy to help. We have found a true gem and would return in a heart beat. A huge thank you to the owners for the opportunity to escape the reality of the unprecedented times we have all found ourselves living in during 2020. River Cottage is a lovely, cosy cottage with a fabulous garden.

River Cottage is a lovely, cosy cottage with a fabulous garden. It is spotlessly clean and very welcoming with biscuits, milk and fresh flowers on arrival, as well as dog treats and blankets. We found Bladnoch to be a great location with a friendly pub at the end of the street as well as the distillery with its own cafe. We enjoyed shopping in Wigtown which is only a 2-minute drive or 15-minute walk away and has a Co-op and lots of bookshops. Further afield, River Cottage is a great base to explore Wigtownshire’s little coastal villages and the Galloway Forest. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

Great family base for exploring Galloway
Great family base for exploring Galloway
The bungalow cottage was lovely. Very clean and perfect for a family of 4 with a double bedroom and two single beds in the other bedroom. There were TVs in every room with Freeview and broadband wi-fi was supplied free of charge. The cottage was on a quiet street and we got parked bang outside the front door every day. The location was central so that nowhere in the surrounding area was more than an hours drive; Galloway Outdoor Activity Centre and Stranraer being the furthest away. Linda messaged us a number of times before, during and after our visit to ensure everything was okay. Couldn't have wished for nicer accomodation for our little family getaway.
