Fab trip and a lovely house. The Ashes is a cosy and peaceful getaway in beautiful surroundings. 10 of us stayed for a birthday celebration over 4 nights, and everyone enjoyed their stay. There are a few cobwebs, like other reviews I’d seen had mentioned, but that’s to be expected in a place like this and the place was otherwise clean and comfortable. The owner had left us a wheelbarrow full of fire wood, and the fire was lit when we arrived. We self catered and managed just fine, though bringing a sharp kitchen knife or two helped. Would absolutely stay again.

My parents arrived first for a weekend away for my sister's 40th Birthday. They walked in and instantly knew the house was filthy. The floors were covered in dirt and my Mum found mould in the fridge and mouse droppings in a cupboard in the kitchen. She spent three hours cleaning the kitchen, downstairs toilet and as much of the bottom floor as she could. The lady who was cleaning the house was there when my parents arrived. She said she'd been told to do 4 hours so had concentrated on the upstairs and didn't realise how bad it was. She said my Mum shouldn't have to do what she was doing and she would speak to the owner as she was only cleaning it as a favour as the normal cleaner was away. The owner never contacted us. There was broken glass behind the bin in the kitchen, one of the dining room chairs was ripped, the whole place was filthy and covered in cobwebs. There were no towels placed out for us, when we found them they were very old and some had bleach marks on them. There were no hand towels in the bathroom downstairs or in the kitchen, only one tea towel. The pans were all filthy and the oven trays were so disgusting we couldn't use them. I could go on. The family bathroom upstairs smelled foul, to the point it made my Mum feel sick and actually made her ill.She spent two days with a migraine and vomiting.I complained about the house and the owner lied and said it wasn't dirty at all and his cleaner had come back, which she had not.I have pictures to back up my story

Des was very helpfull and accommodation. He supplied fresh wood for the x2 fires in the property. Although we diddnt need them on as the place was very warm. The wifi was very weak as was the phone signal. Which was perfect for the digital detox we truly needed. We would love to come back and visit again. Heeps of character bedding and towels were clean. Everything else was as you. Would expect for a farm house. 😁
