About this house rental

Accommodations: House, 4 Bedrooms, 3.5 Bath

Charming red cottage with stone fireplace nestled on private 40 acre estate, 600 feet of Lake Erie waterfront, small boat launch, bullfrog pond, trickling stream, fruit trees, blueberries, walking trials at the end of half mile wooded driveway. Perfect for family reunions or vacation retreat located 22 miles West of Erie, PA and 8 miles East of Conneaut, OH.

This 4 bedroom home is available year round, but cross country skiing access maybe required for winter use. The property is bordered by Lake Erie to the North, Camp Lambec to the West and to the South and East are private undeveloped lands. Nearby, the largest tract of undeveloped land on the South Shore of Lake Erie, the Pennsylvania State Game lands/David M Roderick Wildlife Reserve; and the new Lake Erie Bluff's park is also nearby.

A historical property due to its location on the final 259th milepost of the pre-revolutionary war northern boundary of Pennsylvania. For history buffs, a granite monument near the highest bluff placed in 1910s marks the old state line and recounts the deed dating back to a treatise signed with the Indians and George Washington. The cottage built in the 1940s was expanded and renovated in 2000 to include a first floor master bedroom and private bath, a spacious maple cabinet kitchen, breakfast nook stocked with all equipment to prepare any meal. The living room has a stone, wood burning fireplace to make any night feel cozy. A lakefront dining room and settee, front and back decks both perfect places to relax, listen to the waves, see the boats go by and watch the hummingbirds dart around the feeder. If the weather turns, the enclosed front and back solarium settees allows you to take in the beauty.
The second floor has 2 bedrooms. One with 4 twin beds, the other with a full/queen bed and shared full bath. Main floor has a master suite queen, full bath and second bedroom single twin "Captains" room with its own half bath.

Relaxing: The environment simply lures you into leaving your stresses behind. Read a book while relaxing in the hammock. Take the time for incredible sunsets.

Badminton, frizbe and bocce balls are all provided. The large yard is a great place to play catch.

Hiking: Over 4000 acres of State game lands are one mile to the west.

Boating: The cottage has plenty of room to park your boat. Smaller boats can be launched on the property and at Raccoon Creek Park. Larger boats will need to go to Conneaut, Elk Creek, or other nearby ramps.

Swimming: On your own private beach. Build a fire on the beach and cook a hot dog or roast a marshmallow. There is almost always drift wood to keep the fire going.

Hunting: Deer, turkey, dove and much more bring the hunters in from all over the world to nearby state lands - but not permitted on the cottage property.

Birding: At least 50 species of bird nest here. Bald Eagles, Mississippi Kites, Peregrine Falcons are all sighted during migration. Late August and early September brings Monarch butterflies on their way to Mexico. King rail, black tern, least bittern, great egret, yellow crowned night heron and the common tern are others the avid birder has a chance of seeing. Recently spotted Scarlet Tanager and Rose Breasted Grosbeak.

Fishing: Either from the shore, along Raccoon Creek, or nearby Elk and Walnut Creeks, your own boat or chartering in Conneaut or Erie. Walleye, Trout, Perch and many other species. Ice Fishing in Presque Isle bay is a popular winter sport. *NO CLEANING FISH AT THE COTTAGE*

Very nice property if you’re looking for an older farm house feel. We had plenty of room and my husband and father really enjoyed the pond and it was right on the lake. If your looking for quiet this is the house for you. And we were not far from the things we wanted to do. Thanks for letting us stay.

We had a wonderful time. The house has tons of character and is secluded in the woods with direct private beach access. So close to fishing for the guys and not far from our favorite wineries up in North East about 45 min north. We didnt even go to other beaches since the beach was private and nice at the house. All the beds were comfortable and the kitchen had tons of stuff to use. The only downside was lack of a 'gathering' couch so we found it difficult and uncomfortable to congregate in the evenings to watch movies or chat the night away. If there was a larger sofa in the back sun room to watch the lake in the evenings or during a rainy day that would've been awesome. Also the outside chairs on the back porch were all broken. Thankfully they had some lawn chairs in the garage and we used the furniture down by the firepit instead. The only real issue was the AC. We werent permitted to go below 74 which meant the upstairs bedroom with the loft that the kids were in was about 80 which is so hot and stuffy. A ceiling fan would go a long way up there for these hot summer days and nights with no breeze coming thru the windows. There was a box fan but since it had to sit on the floor it didnt really help that much. And lastly, CURTAINS PLEASE! At least in the bedrooms. Everyone in the back Lakeroom and anyone outside could see me getting dressed. Curtains in the master bed and bath and loft bedroom would be great! Otherwise we cant wait to book it again!

22 Chains Cottage is very cozy, yet enough room for everyone to have their own space. The upstairs was hard to cool off, but the downstairs was quite comfortable. The kitchen had ample space for several people to cook or chat. The house was cleaned, but could use a deep cleaning. The yard was kept up well. One day a guy came to weed wack at 8:30 AM close to the back bedroom while we were still in bed.Any issues were reported to the owner and he responded quickly. The view of Lake Erie was phenomenal. I was able to see the sunrise and sunset every day. It was fun looking for beach glass.I would recommend this place for making great memories and a stress free relaxing stay.
