About this house rental
Custom built English Tudor style home located on a 400 acre ranch. This secluded ranch borders Cal Poly State University property and is situated 2.3 miles from Highway 1 on a part paved/ part all-weather gravel road. The house has 4 bedrooms and 3 baths and sleeps 8-10 with a king, 3 queens and 2 twin beds. It has hardwood floors and granite counter tops. The kitchen is fully equipped and has an adjoining sitting area where guests can relax on a couch, enjoy the expansive view and chat with the chef while he or she prepares meals. The library is stocked with an eclectic collection of books. The home has high speed satellite internet access and good cell phone reception. There are 2 SMART TV's connected to a satellite dish which provides premium channel programming. The living room, with its mahogany paneling, leather couches and piano arrayed before an enormous fireplace, is reminiscent of a British gentleman's club or hunting lodge. Outside, the patio and garden have ample seating with both a wood-burning Santa Maria style bbq and conventional propane grill for your outdoor cooking experience. There is an outdoor fire pit is ideal for roasting hotdogs, marshmellos or just sitting around the fire under the stars.
Mike, one of the owners' sons, and his wife, Surika., livesin the stable building located approximately 100 yards downhill from the main house. They are happy to answer questions or help guests with any problems that may arise during their stay.
Guests are encouraged to bring their hiking boots and binoculars. The ranch is surrounded by rural Cal Poly property with its extensive system of dirt roads on which one can literally bike or hike for miles. For a more adventuresome and secluded experience, guests are welcome to explore the ranch itself which is home to deer, turkeys, coyotes, raptors and other native animals and birds. Those energetic enough to hike to the top of the ridge above the house will be treated to a spectacular view of Cal Poly and San Luis Obispo in the valley below and the Pacific Ocean ten miles distant.
Whether you are visiting this area to sample its world-famous wines and restaurants, to explore its pristine coastline or simply to relax and unwind, you'll be glad you selected the Stenner Creek ranch as your home away from home during your stay.
CAVEAT:
The house is located at the end of a 1.5 mile dirt/gravel road. While the road is maintained by the county, it can get bumpy and as such, its not ideally suited for guests with low-clearance vehicles. Guests with such vehicles will need to drive slowly and carefully.
Also, because it is a two story structure with stairs, the house is not well-suited for guests with mobility issues.

We brought my parents and my adult children and it worked out pretty well. The property is nice and clean, but also a bit dated. The downstairs master off the kitchen was perfect for my parents who are close to 80. The upstairs bedrooms were spacious, but the master bath upstairs was not enough. We had our 4 adult children use the main bath at the bottom of the stairs. There was wood for fires at night, both inside and outside in their lovely yard. It was a comfortable place for a family stay.

The house is great and very well equipped. Beds were very comfortable. Backyard is great with plenty of seating. House is off the beaten path and gravel road, so just be prepared. It was a great size for our group.

I’d like to start by saying Chuck was excellent at communicating and the booking process and check in was seamless. He was always available and making sure we were settled in and had all the information we needed. It is a sweet well loved family home in a nice secluded spot.
A note about the bathrooms which is not mentioned in the description.. one is attached to the lower bedroom. The one that looks like a master bath is actually the causeway to the backyard. The third bathroom is the only one upstairs and can only be accessed via one of the bedrooms. The layout is a definite head scratcher. We were 3 families with young kids so whoever took the bedroom upstairs with the only attached bathroom had to settle for less privacy as we didn’t want the kids taking the stairs in the middle of the night to use the bathroom downstairs Additionally one person in our party broke out in hives immediately after hanging out on the upholstered couches.
Sadly, I have to give it a less than average rating because we felt the listing in its entirety is not worth the price of around a grand per night after taxes fees etc .
While we will not be returning here, I’d like to thank Chuck for his hospitality.
