About this villa rental

Hacienda Las Huacas — Historic Hilltop Estate with Ocean Views in Playa Guiones

Welcome to Hacienda Las Huacas, one of the oldest and most distinctive estates in Playa Guiones, Nosara. Set on a rare ~2-acre double lot at one of the highest points in the EE section, this historic hilltop property captures the essence of Nosara with sweeping ocean views, cooling breezes, and deep local roots.

Originally known as Casa Las Huacas, the home was named for the sacred red clay hill it rests upon — a place once cherished by indigenous kings who buried their treasures high above the jungle to be closer to the heavens. Today, that same sense of peace and connection remains, woven into every detail of this soulful Costa Rican retreat.

Purchased as a private home in 2012, Hacienda Las Huacas has been carefully remodeled to preserve its authentic charm while offering comfortable, spacious accommodations for up to 16 guests. The estate features four separate dwellings, making it ideal for families, surf groups, and small retreats seeking privacy, nature, and proximity to Playa Guiones Beach.

Property Overview:

1- Main House(Oceana) – Named after the fabulous Ocean views from both levels, the Upstairs Large Master Bedroom with King canopy bed and full bath, sleeps 2. Outside the Master Bedroom is an ocean view terrace big enough for 14+ yoga mats. Also outside the Master Bedroom are stairs up to the bell tower with incredible birdnest ocean views from the tip of Garza to Playa Pelada.

The downstairs main floor has 2 Bedrooms with 2 queen beds per room + 2 Bathrooms. Each room sleeps up to 4 guests. Outside the 2 bedrooms is 2 open-concept living rooms, a full kitchen and island, and a dining room with table seating of 14. and room for more if needed.

Outside the main floor is your private ocean view pool and outside bar covered by the spacious upstairs balcony that can be used for events, which has an unobstructed sunset view throughout the whole year, which most houses on the Hill don't have.

2- Casita(Vista 1 & 2) –named after both beautiful Ocean and Jungle views, the upstairs(1) has its own ocean view covered deck with a king-size bed and bath inside. The downstairs casita(2) has a queen bed and bath, with each having its own separate entrance.
3- Casita(Mariposa 1 &2)-named after the many trees around the casita that attract an abundance of beautiful butterflies daily, this casita has both a left(1) and right(2) rooms, each with a private entrance, and 1 queen Bed+ Bathroom. In the back, the partial ocean garden view covered terrace is shared by both rooms. Each room sleeps 2 guests.

4- Small Casa(Guanacaste) –named after one of the said to be largest and oldest(100 years+) Guanacaste trees in the region, Monkeys frequently travel to this tree for both food and peaceful shelter. The house has 1 Bedroom + 1 Bathroom. The living room has 1 bunk bed available. Sleeps up to 4 people with its own entrance, coveredterrace, and kitchenette.

Maximum occupancy: 16 guests total, regardless of configuration.

We enjoyed our stay at this beautiful home. We were a group of 15 (3 families) with 9 teenagers!! The location of the house to town was perfect! We were close to the grocery, the farmicia and the clinica (which we ended up needing b/c of an ATV accident :() We were close to zip lining, a short drive to kayaking and snorkeling and very close to the beach for surfing, shopping and relaxing as well as great food and entertainment at Beach Dog Café!!! The only thing that our group would have like to have had was more seating on couches for our large group. Our teens gathered in the area with the view from the kitchen looking out to the pool and they had to bring chairs from the kitchen to sit in to be together. A big sectional couch would have been really nice! We loved our chefs and enjoyed not having to cook and clean each night. They were very accommodating and willing to take requests for dinner. They even prepared our freshly caught fish for dinner one evening. Amazing sunrises and sunsets were enjoyed by all!!!

We had three families, six adults and nine teenagers. The place was set up great for us. Parents stayed in the casitas and most of the teens stayed in the house. Beds were comfortable, though a few more blankets would have been nice. The pool and outdoor area were awesome. View was awesome. Easy drive down to town and to the beach (but not a short walk). Kitchen was great. Heard the monkeys in the mornings. Not unlike other places we did find some scorpions lurking around. Our Concierge arranged many excursions for us but often we were able to find better and less expensive excursions ourselves. We had her stock the fridge before we got there which was nice, but expensive. She bought the most expensive items for most everything, especially the liquor, which is very expensive in the area (e.g. Grey Goose bottle for $65). ADVICE: Buy all of your liquor in the airport when you get off the plane (e.g Grey Goose bottle for $15). We had a cook and cooks assistant in each night for dinner (Mom and daughter). They cost about $100/night plus the groceries (that they picked up) and they even stayed to clean up. A bargain as the food was great. We requested local cuisine but they could do much more. One night they prepared the Tuna and Snapper we caught on our charter. Concierge set up the charter and the captain was very nice. His boat was small and simple with no frills (not even a fighting chair). He said he could take 8 people but that would have been terrible as any more than 3 or 4 guests would have been crowded and uncomfortable. Note: the second floor is not part of the rental, that's the owner's personal area. Though we did use the upstairs deck and balconies for sunbathing and massages ($60/hr plus tip and they were great). We did not go with the concierge's recommendation for a massage, which was going to be $115/hr. There is a lawn/maintenance man around often so he was able to fix a couple minor items. Other suggestions...Kayak/Snorkeling in Samara was great. The stars on the beach at night are great and we even built a bonfire. ATV tours were fun as well. Zipline was great. Plenty of good places to eat as well. 4wd rental car recommended but not essential for this house. Enjoy.
