About this house rental

ND FOOTBALL FAN FAVORITE!
Our convenient and historical location is a Notre Dame Football fan favorite! Make your Fighting Irish weekend complete by enjoying a piece of Notre Dame's history right next to campus in beautiful Coquillard Woods.

Layden House was built in 1927 by Russell Smith, the developer of the historic area and founder of Coquillard Woods Social Club (now Morris Park Country Club).

Four Horseman, Elmer Layden and his wife Edith were residents in the 1940's during his time as Notre Dame's Athletic Director and his years as The Commissioner of the NFL.
Elmer Layden was one of the distinguished members of Notre Dame football's 1924 team under Coach Knute Rockne. Together with Harry Stuhldreher, Don Miller, and Jim Crowley they comprised the winning backfield known as the Four Horsemen.

The house is within walking distance (1.5 miles) to campus and all the entertainment surrounding it (including Eddy Street Commons, The Linebacker, Mitch's, The American Pancake House, Nick's Patio, Starbucks, and Martin's Grocery Store).

This beautiful home was built in the French Tudor architectural style and features 6 bedrooms including one king size, three queen size, three full size, and one twin trundle.

Fully remodeled, Layden House includes all the charm of a home from its era as well as the convenience of modern amenities (including air conditioning, fully stocked and modern kitchen, laundry, and free Wi-Fi).

Outdoor entertaining area features fireplace and three separate patios - one for morning coffee, one for dining, and one for an evening fire that seats 30. In the time the home was built, the rear lawn was used for croquet matches. There is a child's playhouse in the fenced in yard as well.

Dining Room seats 12 and is the hub of the home. While the kitchen is smaller, it is fully functional with every amenity for preparing large meals. You will want to stock up on bags of ice when you get here for the two giant coolers for use during your stay.

An extra-large driveway can house 4 cars...in addition, there is legal street parking. Garage parking is available for one midsize SUV or smaller upon request

No ND Parking Pass? No problem. Layden House is readily accessible by Ubër/Lyft or a short walk (1.5 miles).

Make your memorable Notre Dame weekend unique with a stay at Layden House!

Elmer Layden is still delivering. The house made for a very special graduation weekend for my daughter. Excellent location; the hosts were responsive and very nice; the history is special; and we would come again.

We loved this quirky, charming historic 100 year old home. Great gathering spaces and dining area. Well stocked kitchen, large dining table that was perfect for dinners. Beds and rooms worked well for our group of adult friends and couples. The beds were comfortable and the linens fresh and lovely. The outdoor patio and fireplace was wonderful. A very ready walk from campus (the group that walked home from the game actually arrived a bit before the group that drove home). Communication with Melinda was rapid and easy. We had to call her to find the back-up propane tank and that was instantaneous. We found gifts of coffee cake and some delicious candies left for us on arrival. The 4 star for accurate description: lists 2 twin beds in basement and in living room. There were not. Had large comfortable sofas, but not mattresses or sleeper sofas. One of our number chose to sleep on the sofa and had no complaints. No hot tub either, which was not a deal breaker, but would have been fun. Hoping to be back next year!

This house has so much history. My husband graduated from ND in 1965. My daughter graduated in 2000. We had our 6 children and 2 grandchildren and my sons in laws who had never been to ND. The house is very comfortable. I love the dining table. It seats 12.

My family came together from across the country, from Seattle to Boston, in order to attend a ND game. My father is a '62 grad and my brother is an '85 grad. The property accommodated our large extended family. There were plenty of sleeping accommodations and bathrooms. The dinning room and family room had plenty of room for us to eat together and watch Rudy in comfort! The outdoor patio and fireplace area is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy a nice cocktail after a Notre Dame win! Would definitely stay there again! Go Irish!!
