A Craftsman-style home with impressive views and a mid-century modern vibe offers a peaceful retreat in a quiet neighborhood of Carmel-by-the-Sea, close enough to walk to downtown but away from the hustle and bustle of the main thoroughfares.

The two-bedroom, two-bath house, built in 1955, offers ocean sunset vistas through large windows as well as on its wrap-around deck. Gardens filled with trees, succulents and Ceanothus contain private patios behind a historic stone wall, with a variety of seating areas, perfect for quiet contemplation or admiring the birds and butterflies that come to visit.

The 1,435-square-foot residence is within easy walking distance from Carmel Plaza, a premier shopping center with wine tasting rooms, shopping and restaurants, and downtown Carmel’s art galleries, fine dining and upscale boutiques. It’s also just a 10-minute drive to golf and dining in Pebble Beach®, or attractions such as Pacific Grove’s butterfly trees and the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Cannery Row.

Living Spaces:
A style mingling mid-century modern with an eclectic mix of unique and antique furnishings highlights this home. The living room features a sitting area near a 42-inch HDTV, and another around the gas fireplace, with comfortable Danish modern-style couches. An adjacent desk offers a place to set up a laptop computer and a small library that includes books on local history.
Views of the ocean, Monterey pines and cypress, and the coastal hills are made possible by the large west-facing windows, and guests will be certain to enjoy sunsets either inside the living room or outside on the patio.

Multi-level flagstone patios outside offer a variety of places to read, meditate, or just enjoy the sunshine, with a chaise lounge and other seating available along with an outdoor table for dining and a small pond.

Kitchen and Dining
The bright kitchen has a vintage Wedgewood gas stove with six burners and two ovens, in addition to cheerful blue countertops, white cabinetry and hardwood floors.
An adjacent dining area with seating for six shares the views with the cozy living room. Well-equipped for extended stays!

Bedrooms and Bathrooms
Both bedrooms have new organic queen-sized mattresses from Monterey Mattress and hardwood floors.

Bedroom #1 features coastal interiors in tones of sea foam, blue and white, a queen bed, and a wealth of storage space, with built-in shelves and drawers in addition to cedar-lined closets.
The en suite bathroom has a standing shower.

Bedroom #2 features a vintage vanity, a fabric headboard and views of the garden patios.
The en suite bathroom has a bath tub.

Both bathrooms adjoin one another in a Jack-and-Jill arrangement, making it convenient for guests in either bedroom to access either the shower or the bath tub.

A new washer and dryer is conveniently located in the kitchen.

Two driveways allow for off street parking for up to 3 cars. The small, private lane on which the house sits, does not allow for parking on the lane itself. Additional parking is 1/2 block away.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome with pre-approval, an additional pet fee and a signed pet addendum.

This home is a monthly rental and we request that all nights of your stay are within the same calendar month. Some exceptions may be possible, with the approval of our team and the homeowner. Extended stays are often possible.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Perfect so far. Patio is perfect and we love the gardens. Gardner has already been here twice and cuts and blows and waters. House is perfectly set up however if you watch tv I have never figured out how to watch local tv or news stations but we can stream Netflix as a gues and stream prime with an account or u tube or others if you have an account. Wi if is great and close to town for meals etc. weather has been perfect and grill works fine. Views from the porch or den with all of the expansive windows are great. Great ocean view also .stove top works great however oven does not but they provide a countertop oven that works fine. Not used to queen beds but getting used to it and not stealing as much cover after two weeks. Have a lot of closet space and fridge works fine however no ice maker so they have ice trays and plenty of water pressure for shower. After years of renting in Carmel this is the best house so far and parking is fine for two cars and neighbors are friendly. Neighborhood playhouse theater The Cherry is literally one block away. Keep trying to get my wife to go down the hill for breakfast but she is very content with coffee in front of windows reading her I pad. What else can you say but so far a perfect home

The smallish home is vintage 50's with huge windows and clean easy styling. The large kitchen featured a vintage gas stove that we loved to cook on. The home is walkable to the beach and village and did so daily. There are hills so be prepared for that. The yard is spacious and we spent a lot of time there. We would love to return to this property. Highly recommend

House has an amazing panoramic window to watch the sunset every night. Great location within walking distance to town & the beach. And the backyard space is huge, with many different seating areas. The house had a few issues, which is unfortunate during Covid because I wanted to avoid anyone coming in the house. The guests prior to me must have had a pet that soiled the carpet. As there was a terrible smell. When I lifted up the carpet, there was a large stain. Only after scrubbing for a few days, did the smell come out. The oven & stove are very old, and only seemed to stay at one temperature. So cooking was not easy. The kitchen sink also does not drain. And some of the blinds were broken. It would be great if there were thorough maintenance checks between guests, to avoid these issues. There was also construction every day at the house right across the street. So there were often trucks blocking the driveway. Although the road is private, there are cars driving up and down, and parked along the road all day. So there actually isn’t a lot of privacy. I stayed during a quiet season. So I can’t imagine what it’s like during summer. Overall, my stay was great because of the great weather and empty beaches. But for the price you pay with all of the fees (plus having to pay for utilities!), I had expected a better maintained house.
