What makes this unit truly special is its connection to history. It is part of the original Hequembourg estate, built in 1910. The mansion, known as Harminnie, was named after Major Harry and Minnie Hequembourg, who owned the entire bay from Canadaway Creek to Crooked Brook Creek. Upon arrival, you'll receive a booklet featuring original pictures of the house and information about a children's camp that Major Hequembourg operated in the 1920s.

Spend your days hunting for beach glass and driftwood, sunbathe on the beach, or take a leisurely 10-minute walk to the Dunkirk Boardwalk at the harbor, where you can indulge in delicious meals, refreshing cocktails, and satisfy your shopping desires at various shops. Dunkirk Harbor also offers a marina, restaurants, and a public launching facility for convenient access to Lake Erie.

For fishing enthusiasts, the options are abundant. Charter a boat from the harbor and try your hand at catching the famous walleye or cast your line from the mouth of the creek, just a short distance from the house.

If you're craving more adventure, the nearby Chautauqua Institute, a scenic 35-minute drive away, awaits with its vibrant arts scene. Attend symphonies, concerts, speaking engagements, and theater performances. Lake Chautauqua, accessible by boat, offers additional attractions, including Midway Amusement Park for younger children, Long Point State Park, shopping opportunities, and a variety of restaurant and bar establishments. From the serene to the thrilling, there's something for everyone.

Always a breeze off the lake and a private beach to enjoy it on. The apartment is spacious, has a huge kitchen - well equipped for a rental - and a too-die-for balcony. We were fascinated by the building itself, built just as the Great Depression was starting.Jules and Austin were great hosts and more than responsive. We did not take advantage of the boats because we were too busy exploring the area. There was lots to see and do in the week we were there. All in all, it was a great week and this is a lovely place. We may well go back.
