About this house rental

This unique property sits in a secluded forest setting high above Old Town and the Siuslaw River bridge. It offers complete privacy yet is just a short walk to the shops, restaurants, harbor, and other attractions of Old Town. Go down a forest path to arrive at the high dunes overlooking the Siuslaw River, Florence, and the Ocean. You do have to climb the dunes, which is challenging.

The house comes with two bedrooms upstairs with an adjoining deck that overlooks the forest and a gives you a peek at Old Town; there is another bedroom downstairs. All beds are Queen size. The paneled great room has multiple view windows and comes with a fully equipped kitchen, a dining area, and a pellet stove. There is high speed internet and a large TV in the living room area. There is a laundry area with a washer and dryer. A deck with outside seating and a gas barbeque is located off the great room. There is a lawn with a great big fire pit surrounded by log benches and plenty of firewood. Surrounding it all is the virgin forest.

The exterior is a very nice setting in the woods. Nice deck, nice fire pit, plenty of parking, surround by towering pines. Beautiful outside (although lots of mosquitos). Interior, on first walk through is fine - long entry hallway, laundry, spacious Great Room, decent dining room and nice kitchen. As we settled in for the evening, our rating came down one and a half stars. No air conditioning and we couldn’t open widows or doors on first floor to get a cross breeze (mosquitos and no window screens). Upstairs, where two of 3 bedrooms were, it was super hot and ceilings were shorter, about 7 ft. Only one upstairs widow had a screen, but it had holes, so we didn’t sleep upstairs. Some first floor lights fixtures had dead bulbs so we swapped with bulbs from upstairs (I honestly don’t mind doing that, it happens). But, the actual stairway light switch and fixture doesn’t work. So no light in that area. Bathroom is small, low pressure from shower fixture in small tub. The bathroom has a nice repaint job but they didn’t paint corner wall above the mirror and you can see it. Floor trims need attention..some gaps and grime in just a few places. Floors have gentle slopes as in an older farm home. Decorations are 80’s pottery barn. Nice, neat, but dated. With just a little love, this place will sparkle! Add window screens, attend to floor board trim. Exterior yard area rocks.

The oven on the range did not work but the stove, toaster oven and microwave did. The refrigerator was a perfect size! Big enough for all the groceries and beverages. Basic wares were availabile to use as well as cleaning supplies. Could have used more kitchen towels and butter knives. Loved that the kitchen amd dining room were in the same area of the living room. The pellet stove was a nice addition. There is a washer and dried available to use.Beds were Queen Size and comforterable. Well built. We loved the side deck off the living room. Perfect for the afternoon. There is a nice patio set and extra chairs are provided as well as a grill. There is a great firepit with lots of wood. We brought some bundles of firewood and used for kindling. Perfect for smores! The spot is pretty! You are surrounded by old forest and the property butts up to a state park. House is at the end of the road so no traffic. Could see the lights from Old town from the dining room. It was perfect for us! Lots of room for kids to run around and adventure. Everything was close, Safeway, Old Town, South Jetty and Sandland Adventures.Host was quick to repond. It is a little out dated but definitely has a homey grandma feel.

We loved this property! Total privacy, quiet and lovely, surrounded on about three sides by a state park, and still so close to town. The house is perfectly comfortable, lots of windows and natural light. A single bathroom was totally adequate for the three of us! We would stay here again gladly and hope to do so if in the area again!

The setting is top notch and wonderful. You can see Florence city lights and hear some of the hustle and bustle of small town life. The property is on the boundary of a local state park- Lots of mushrooms everywhere. Absolutely wonderful location. The only detractor is that the downstairs mattress was the only one soft enough to catch some intermittent sleep. This place would be much better with comfortable bedding/matresses. The steep driveway would be difficult for some vehicles.
