Problematic check-in and no way to access the property The room itself was fine, and I have no complaints about the accommodation. Unfortunately, the check-in experience was unacceptable. This property is a café with several guest rooms upstairs. When I arrived at around 16:20, both the café entrance and the gate to the property were locked. There was nobody from the staff and no other guests. I waited outside for about 40 minutes until other motel guests arrived by motorcycle. They kindly helped me find and contact the owner. He arrived about 15 minutes later and finally checked me in. In total, I spent more than an hour simply trying to get into the hotel. The owner told me that I was supposed to arrive before 16:00. No any apologises. I have no problem with a small hotel having limited reception hours — this is completely normal. However, in such cases, the property should clearly inform the guest in advance, contact the guest if they are arriving after reception hours, and provide clear instructions on how to access the property and contact someone if necessary. None of this happened. There was no clear information about a 16:00 deadline when I made the booking, and I only noticed later in the voucher that check-in was actually stated as being available until 18:00. I was lucky that I arrived during the daytime and happened to meet other guests. Without them, I had no practical way to enter the property or contact the owner. One final detail: the tourist tax was 800 HUF. I offered 795 HUF in coins to avoid the need for change, but the owner refused and went to find 200 HUF change for a 1,000 HUF note. Five forints is about 1.5 euro cents. Again, the room itself was fine and quite. The serious problem was the lack of a reliable check-in and access procedure and the complete absence of communication before my arrival.
