About this cabin rental
Location:
The Pines is located on the north coast of Mount Desert Island overlooking Frenchman Bay. The cabin is just 7 minutes (2.5 miles) from the Acadia National Park Visitor Center and 13 minutes (5 miles) from Bar Harbor. There are fun and safe bicycle routes to both the park and town.
This secluded cabin nestled among pine trees, located about 150 yards from the shared cliffside deck used by all three Baycliff rentals: Baycliff Cottage, the Guest House, and The Pines. Perched at the edge of the property, the deck offers sweeping views of the bay, nearby islands, and distant mountains. With built-in bench seating and a picnic table, it’s a wonderful place to enjoy breakfast, unwind with a glass of wine, or share a peaceful picnic. Guests occasionally spot dolphins or seals in the water, and sometimes even a bald eagle soaring overhead.
The cabin itself features a wall of large windows across the front, bringing in beautiful natural light and connecting you to the surrounding woods and coastal setting.
A Note About the Cabin (Important):
The Pines is a rustic, uninsulated cabin. If it gets chilly outside, it will get chilly inside by morning. The wood stove provides excellent heat, and we also supply two space heaters and electric blankets to keep you comfortable.

- A large living area with kitchen (stove/oven, refrigerator, sink)
- Eating area and sitting area with a wood stove
- Two bedrooms, sleeping up to five guests
- Master bedroom: Queen bed
- Second bedroom: Twin-over-queen bunk bed

- Large covered porch for relaxing

- Parking next to the cabin

This is a peaceful and quiet retreat. We’ve been renting The Pines and its sister cabin, The Guest House, for over 40 years, and many of our guests have been returning year after year. People come back for the tranquility, the natural beauty, and the simple joy of this special place.
It’s an ideal spot for couples or families, and pets are welcome. As pet owners ourselves, we understand how important it is to bring them along.

- The property also includes a second cabin about 100 yards downhill and a house another 50 yards beyond that.
Beach Access Notice (Very Important):
The stairs to the beach were destroyed by storms in 2023, and there is currently no direct beach access. The cliffs, views, decks, and overlooks remain fully accessible and just as beautiful.
The Pines has a sister cabin on the property, The Guest House (VRBO #887888) and the Baycliff Cottage (VRBO# 1678236).

The cabin is in a perfect location for Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. It’s a beautiful and relatively secluded location yet only 10 minutes to town. There are also several good restaurants minutes away. The cabin living area was bigger than I expected. We loved the wood fireplace and space heaters. The beds were comfortable and everything was clean and well appointed. Be aware that the shower is very small, however the property is as described. The host was always fast in communication, welcoming and kind. This is not a hotel or commercially owned vacation rental; this is someone sharing their childhood vacation home with others and the love shows!

We returned to the Pines after 15 years since our move to Colorado. We are so pleased that Kevin continues to rent the cabin & did an excellent job updating it. The cabin has everything you need, including all kitchen essentials, grocery/picnic bags, lobster pots/picks/crushers (even the little butter melting device w/ a candle). The cliff deck is wonderful. We spent several afternoons on the deck, just watching & listening to the waves. Kevin & Carol checked with us several times to make sure that we have everything we need. Thank you, Kevin.

This was our second time staying in The Pines, and we will undoubtedly be back. The cabin is rustic, but well-appointed. We did a mix of eating out and cooking at "home," and had all of the equipment we needed. I appreciate the privacy and quiet of the cabin, while still being close to everything that the Park and Bar Harbor have to offer.Kevin is wonderful host, and skilled at checking in without being obtrusive. We knew we could reach him and/or the building caretaker if we needed anything, but all was well until we checked out. If you stay in the late Fall (my favorite time), plan to use the wood stove - which makes the cabin cozy, especially if it rains. Thank you again for a lovely visit!
