We had a wonderful stay! The views from the house were absolutely beautiful, and we especially enjoyed spending time on the back deck, taking in the breeze and watching the stars at night—the sky was incredibly clear and the stars were stunning. One evening, we even got to watch a storm roll across the distance, which was such a unique and memorable experience.The beds were very comfortable, and the whole place felt peaceful and secluded. Thanks to the recent rain, the vegetation was lush and the cenizo (sage) was in bloom, which made the surroundings even more picturesque. As it’s such a natural setting, we did come across a few very large spiders inside the house and the deck. It definitely added to the “remote Texas” experience and wasn’t really a big issue for us, but something to be aware of for anyone who’s particularly squeamish.Kelly was a fantastic host—super responsive and so kind to share helpful recommendations for things in the area. The home is about an hour and a half from the Del Norte entrance of Devils River State Natural Area, which was a highlight of our trip.Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for quiet, natural beauty and a comfortable place to unwind with a fantastic view.

This place is great. If your looking for some fancy house this is not for you. I would call this a lake house, simple, lots of room, and a back deck for watching animals across the river with amazing stars at night. Don’t forget binoculars! Thanks for a great weekend with family.

The place was extremely peaceful and beautiful. The he house is dated and could use some upkeep. However it was very comfy and had plenty of sleeping quarters. The kitchen was WELL STOCKED to cook. The restrooms could use a little work but overall worked for 10 big people! We LOVED the deck but will need a few floor repairs. VERY spacious deck and wonderful furniture. We would recommend and go back!

I’m going to assume that this listing has not been updated for some time. It is listed as Waterfront property making you think you are going to be on water or have access to a decent water source. That is not the case. It has a Waterview. The “short” trail down to the water, is not a short trail. It’s a hike. It’s starts off with loose rock then goes into drops surrounded by brush that has not been trimmed along the “trail”. There are some points that have a 2 foot drop and you are going up and down boulders. Once you get to the bottom there is no water. The lake/reservoir is extremely low all around so the small cove that once was accessible no longer exists. This is not a spot to fish or swim. The cove picture used in ad is not at this location. If you have a boat it may be ok. Many boat ramps are closed near by. The house also stays hot from 12-6pm because the AC unit and circulation is not very good, it was blamed on the blistering heat by the host but I’m also from West Texas so I know blistering heat compared to a bad AC. The house was livable but it needs many upgrades, also needs to be cleaned and organized as there is many random and extra items in the kitchen making it feel like someone moved out and left everything they didn’t want. The ceilings have cracks and water damage, there was racks stacked in the closets, and construction material stored in them. I’m running out of space to type but I think my point was made. We drove to chalk bluff to enjoy ourselves.

This location was awesome--it was the perfect launch site to view the pictographs in seminole canyon. we fully enjoyed the views from the huge porch,sunsets and cooking together in the big kitchen. Perfect holiday spot in winter! ( sure summer is beautiful too!)

The VRBO was worth it for the views and outside deck alone. The house is nothing fancy but it fits the west Texas scenery and has its charms. Pit provided was very nice and we did lots of cooking on it. Again though, one of the best views I’ve seen. We came for a hunting trip and actually didn’t see anything while out. However, in the evenings we were able to watch aoudad, mouflon, and white tails all from the porch by the hundreds.

This rental was great, the view was amazing and the house was perfect for our family. The hike down to the water was rough, but I expected nothing less with how much water Amistad has been losing; and how high up the house was. Our two 5 year olds had no problem hiking up and down, and I was able to do it while holding my 1 year old. We really enjoyed our stay here! The sunsets were beautiful.

The property was well equiped, we all had a good time. It was very hot but, the house wasvery cool. It is in the country and you need to check for insects. The lake is very low and requires a 10 min. walk to get down to it and 30 min. backup.

This place was plenty of room for my boys and I to enjoy, it has a well stocked kitchen that you can use to cook most anything you will need. It is near the Rough Canyon boat ramp which is still operational. It is about 25 min from the Diablo East boat ramp where we met our Guide Stan. There are amazing views of the Devils river and canyon from the kitchen and back patio. We saw lots of wildlife including deer and wild sheep/goats. The views of the stars at night are also amazing. Many fish were caught and released. We did eat some very tasty catfish. Perfect place to disconnect from work and connect with my sons!

We spent a week at the property. Bedrooms were good size. The linens were clean and the beds were reasonably comfortable. Plenty of pillows. The view is stunning! The bathroom adjoining the primary bedroom had a serious toilet issue. A loud whistling noise ensued when the toilet was flushed that last nearly 4 minutes. Midnight trips were difficult to say the least. Lots of wasp on the house and the roof consistently leaked when it rained. The driveway was pretty rough with large rocks. Make sure you don’t have any mobility issues. We took my 85 year old mom and it was difficult to navigate. Great place for fishing or family camping! Quite a trek down to the lake to swim through the cactuses.

This is a cozy cabin with long views of the lake and west Texas. When the lake is up, access would be easy to water. With the lake down, lots of interesting sights to view. Bring binoculars to watch the Auodad, eagles and wildlife. Easy access to the marina down the road with great burgers and a perfectly adequate grocery store.

This excellent scenery rental was a great place for the family to come together and fish in the mornings, relax with movies and games durning the day and amazing cook-out and watching the sunset in the evenings. Plenty room, lots of amenities and resources suck as washer and dryer. Country living over the river. Cell phone reception was sporadic but its about the get away. The low water level made it a bit difficult to get to river from trail behind house but marina is nearby. Great place for fishing camp or a nice relaxing getaway! Felt like a home away from home.

This place is really rustic, but the view of the river makes up for it. We spent most of our time on the back deck. We were three couples and the three bedrooms and two bathrooms were adequate for our needs. We plan to book and stay again. The owners were very accommodating and helpful.

We too had trouble locating the cabin especially with Waze.Some people described the place as rustic, we found a rough construction seemingly by non professionals. I was especially concerned about the lack of a vent over the gas stove. It is for that reason we feel it is overpriced.We did enjoy the view and the sunset.
