Riverfront - Rustic Cottage - 3+ acres - Wide Private Beach

As others have said, this is an unabashedly rustic cottage. I believe parts of it are 125 years old. My family and I found it to be charming and cozy, reminiscent of childhood summers at my grandparents’ Appalachian farmhouse. The front screened porch is generous and peaceful (porch swing!), and the views and beach are superb. The home itself is comfortable — very solid a/c ample ceiling fans vintage table & floor fans; excellent WiFi signal; a smart TV; a new portable washing machine on the side porch (and ample space to hang clothes to dry); a nicely outfitted kitchen (no dishwasher, but newer flat top range and fridge); and lots of books, puzzles, cards, and board games. You have to bring your own linens. My kids fussed about the taste of the well water (a bit musty but totally potable), so we did buy bottled water for drinking. The bathroom is small but functional, and the outdoor shower was a lovely experience. It’s a delightfully peaceful, private place. The property management is lovely, and so accommodating. I imagine this place would be wonderfully snug and inviting in winter, too. We will be back!

This place is the best to get away from busy life no electronics my wife and I love it and the kids we stayed there last year too this is our vacation spot for now on

We loved the house. It reminded us of our camp at a lake when we were younger. The big screened porch overlooking the river was a delight. We were in the area b/c of a death in the family so didn’t get to enjoy it fully. It was a nice retreat

I absolutely hate that I am writing this review. I have never written a review of anything. I wish I could say that several weeks later, I wasn’t still totally annoyed and compelled to do so. Whenever we talk about this rental, I get upset again so here we are. The property itself would have 5 stars. We aren’t deterred by “rustic” accommodations so the home was as expected. The shower was tiny. The water was brown. Whatever. It was supposed to be quiet. Throughout the week it was obvious someone was walking through and around the property with their dogs. At about 8am one morning I was getting dressed when I noticed a woman, with two dogs off leash, at whispering distance from the bedroom window. She was peering onto the porch and into the windows while jabbing at a mushroom on a tree stump and squawking loudly into Bluetooth headset. I could hear her chatter before I saw her. The dog evacuated on the step just outside the porch door. Just to be clear: we remove our dog’s eliminations as they occur. The property manager was accommodating and kind. The beach was quiet and scenic most of the time. Minus the space invader, it’s what we wanted. Left two days early and ate $400 because it was worth it to go home. We don’t appreciate spectators, didn’t spend several thousand dollars to drive into nowhere to socialize. I mistakenly assumed rural properties several hundred feet apart or more respected privacy. It didn’t occur to me to contact the manager and clarify: we want privacy from the neighbors we can’t see. Seems implied. Sorry Cheryl
