About this house rental

This beautiful home features decks on three sides, showcasing Chalk Creek, a greenbelt, and some of Colorado’s most stunning peaks. With five bedrooms (3 kings and 2 queens), there is plenty of space for 10 guests to sleep comfortably in their own rooms. For added flexibility, the home also includes 2 sofa sleepers and a pack-n-play—perfect for larger groups or families. The game room offers pool and foosball, making it a fun spot for guests of all ages. For a true mountain getaway, this location is hard to beat!

In accordance with our Chaffee County license, this home is not available for events such as weddings or large parties. Small gatherings are welcome as long as they are respectful of the neighborhood and do not exceed the maximum number of guests on the reservation.

The property is wonderful. Creekside setting, fire pit, well-equipped kitchen. My wife and I brought daughter and son-in-law and five young adult grandchildren. We will definitely come back. Property Manager Renee was a delight to deal with.

We enjoyed our stay overall. The amenities were amazing. The creek, fire pit, black stone grill, etc were perfect. The location was nice and quiet and easy access to Buena Vista downtown life. However, there’s a lot of reading when it comes to the manuals left on the counters. We felt like walking on eggshells a bit due to all the rules and notes to keep track of. We had the hardest time finding the WiFi network name and password. Typically it’s readily available on a counter. However, we had to dig through pages and pages to find out it was labeled as an “SSID code”. When I asked the property manager directly for the information she did not give it to me, but instead directed me to the binder. Also, they could not tell me what page it was on since they made it years ago. Lastly, we felt like a cleaning crew towards the end by washing dishes by hand since the dishwasher would not latch closed. We were also asked to do a load of towels for the cleaning crew and make sure all the trash was taken out before checkout. I really wish we could’ve just enjoyed our stay and left but we needed to clean more than I’d like. All in all, we did enjoy the stay and there was no significant issues. But with my feedback and some slight adjustments I believe another family would enjoy the stay even more. Thank you!

The property was beautiful, exactly as pictured. The outside areas were stunning. Very upscale appliances, every single kitchen tool you could possibly need was there. Very clean andcwell put together. The one thing is there were no mirrors in the bedrooms. But really a fabulous property. I have never had to pay the entire amount at the time of booking, and i booked this last November, so they had my money for nearly 8 months.

We loved the central location with our favorite activities: Salida, Buena Vista, St.Elmo, Chalk Creek/Lake. Nice kitchen, sitting areas inside and outside with the fire pit and sitting area by the creek. Very roomy house for everyone to enjoy without feeling cramped at all.

We got there and I have never used VRBO before I thought the property ID was our code to get in. We arrived late Friday and it was not. Call the property manager and she was rude and seem put out to help us get into our rental. Second, we found a DEAD MOUSE in one of the rooms. The we saw a live mouse couple different times during the stay. It is a mountain house there was no wood, they had whole tree they seem to start to cut up on the ground. Place and furniture were old and run down. Sectional couches we very uncomfortable and kept sliding apart. The Kitchen door by the grill was not locked upon arrival and we could not latch it the whole weekend. We reached out to the property manager through the whole weekend not a fun getaway. In addition, this a mountain house in winter it snowed a couple of time and got very icy, and they had not salt to lay down for our safety. Last they had 3 trash cans completely full we barely fit 2 bags of trash in them. We felt so unsafe this whole trip and afraid mice would get into our luggage. I would never recommend this property to anyone.

Amazing location. Right on the Chalk Creek. The kids fished and had plenty of water time. Kids loved the pool table and it got plenty of use. No A/C, but the attic fan makes it more than comfortable. Kitchen is pretty well stocked for your needs and the grill was in perfect condition. Would definitely recommend and we will be back for sure.

This is our family’s second year in a row at this cabin; we love it! The cabin is spacious and well equipped to handle a group of all ages. The outdoor seating options by the river are beautiful and serene. The cabin’s location provided our family with a variety of close options to hike, fish, kayak, swim and shop.

We really enjoyed our stay here from the comfy cozinessof the cabin to the nature scenery. From the moment we arrived it was beautiful and breath taking with everything available to us. The only thing that we were not happy with was that our vehicle got stuck in the driveway full of snow and ice. The driveway was not plowed or treated to have our vehicle to be parked downhill in the driveway. My only recommendations are for obviously one to have a 4x4 vehicle when renting in this location. Also getting a notification that the driveway was not treated or a warning that weather conditions didnt allow a 12 passenger rental van to be parked in the driveway.

The house and location was beautiful. We enjoyed spending our time by the creek and at the fire pit. I definitely got a work out on all the stairs! The grandsons really enjoyed the pool table and foosball table in the evenings. It's a great location for River Rafting and the other sites around Buena Vista and Salida. The afternoons were hot and our house got pretty warm, but with opening the doors and turning on the attic fan the nights cooled down to where we had to use covers. I would definitely stay here again. Such a peaceful place!!

We truly had a wonderful time staying at this property. It is beautiful and very well maintained with the absolute best scenery. We had one plumbing incident and it was taken care of that very day and we never had another issue. I hope to stay at this exact property again!!!

great house. Extremely clean with well stocked pantry. Even a coffee grinder. House is as described and pictured on VBRO. Bathrooms a bit small but not a problem. Lots of room for grandkids. Great location. Near the hot springs, St. Elmo chipmunks, and fish hatchery. No A/C but that was not a problem as generally the house has good circulation. Cool in the evening. Creek on the property brought good luck as my sons caught fish, ie catch and release. Would rent again

We had 3 families that stayed in the house. We enjoyed the lodge feel- was spacious. Really impressed with all the kitchen items available for use. We had no cell service but there is a home phone to use. Internet is not great- husband went to coffee shop in town when he had some work that needed to get done. King bed downstairs was ok for kids but not the greatest for adults to sleep on. The two upstairs were good. Pillows were pretty flat. We loved the location! All in all, minor things, we would stay here again!

This house had enough room for all 11 of us! We especially loved all the separate living areas for us to feel comfortably together yet separated as we have kids of all ages. The noise level of this open house was nice as well, you can conversate while people are playing pool and you really couldn't hear anyone even though they seemed right there. It was so nice to have two master bedrooms and en suite bathrooms as well as provided blow up mattresses for extra beds. The patios can not be matched anywhere else! I counted 8 but there may be more! All well equipped with seating areas. I can only imagine what it would be like in the summer with the loungers, picnic area, and seating down by the creek. My son did get a little crazy moving chairs to look for logs for their tee-pee and broke a few plastic adirondacks but we left money for the owners and communicated what had happened. The scenery all around was astounding and very picture worthy. The only downfall of this house was the wi-fi. They do let you know it's spotty but if watching football games or needing phone service is your thing, plan ahead and visit a near-by town to do so. The host was incredibly helpful and responsive but a little rude when she came to plow. Most hosts introduce themselves when meeting the renters who have paid to rent their home but she suggested the fact that we were from Texas was why we didn't shovel the stairs to the front patio. Every instruction provided for us in the book we had abided by and there was no mention of doing this. She was very aggravated and it put a little damper on the mood in the house when she came by. She said she had emailed about it but otherwise there was no sign or mention of it anywhere else. We were talked down to and blamed for being from Texas and it made us a little weary of what else we had done or didn't do. I would suggest having a sign for people, like they do everywhere on the property if it were that big of a deal. Otherwise, communication was good and this vacation home didn't disappoint.

The house was roomy and accommodated our family but overall it needs more maintenance(broken bedroom shades, some stained carpets, needs new coffee maker, missing light bulbs etc. )The location along the creek was pretty and the proximity to the town and hot springs was convenient. However, the cleanliness was subpar. There were cherrios ( not our kids cereal) under the dining room table so clearly that had not been thoroughly vacuumed. We found discarded underwear under the lower bathroom plunger so clearly that floor had not been mopped and cleaned thoroughly: floors were dirty overall . There was a pair of kid's soiled shorts hidden behind the lower level TV. The previous guests left the propane tanks empty so we had to contact the manager before we could grill dinner. To their credit a new tank was delivered to us in time but that should have been checked before new guests arrived. It was also disappointing that recycling was not available on site; we either had to go to the landfill or haul our recycling home with us. We brought it home with us. Overall, we were happy to be together for a family getaway but this property did not meet the standards of many other rentals we have stayed in.

Our huge family of 8 adults and 5 children stayed a week at this house. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook our family meals. Well stocked! We loved the comfortable sofas in the living room, plenty of room and space to lounge. The beds were comfortable. The creek was amazing! We did so many activities, rafting, hiking, atv, horse back riding; hot springs, St Elmo. Wish we had another week! That whole area is one of our favorite places to explore in Colorado. Awesome home and vacation!

This property was outstanding. The location, just down the street from the Princeton Hot Springs, and in the middle of gorgeous scenic mountain vistas was perfect for my 18-year-old daughter and me. We had great space between us and enjoyed hiking right in our own backyard as well as an epic trip to Black Canyon of the Gunnison via the Monarch Pass. The property is beautiful and very comfortable. Tiny little things that could be fixed include the spray function of the kitchen faucet and the fireplace perplexed us--could NOT get the flue open in a way that allowed a fire without smoking the house. Minor issues. They did not hinder our enjoyment. Satellite internet was a little challenging. I had planned to work remotely and it was basically fine. But I had to stream quite a bit and had there been other guests ahead of or behind me there may not have been enough data to go around. The owner is great. She checked in on us and was very accommodating. I would definitely rent this gem again.

Stayed here for a family ski vacation. Excellent family home with plenty of room! Enjoyed the game room and hanging out together. Internet was extremely limited in this location. However, enjoyed watching the deer each day and played lots of pool. Would stay again!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Ponderosa!! Perfect location for a mini vacation, it was little bitter cold to be out much but we will definitely be back to enjoy the great outdoors in the summer time! We spent most of our time in the grand kitchen/dining room playing games etc! The bedrooms were good size for all our families and the kids loved the game room/den area! We look forward to returning:)
