Hutchinson Island, located on the east coast of Florida, is a long, thin barrier island that stretches from Fort Pierce to Stuart, Florida. There are miles of beautiful, sandy beaches to enjoy with many free public beaches to access on this down-to-earth island along with cultural events and activities for the whole family to enjoy.
Hutchinson Island is not just a lovers’ paradise for vacationers. It also is a chosen nesting destination for some of the ocean’s most endangered sea turtles and a great place to enjoy Florida wildlife at its finest.
Nearby attractions include The Elliott Museum, Florida Oceanographic Society, House of Refuge, The Children’s Museum of the Treasure Coast and Sailfish Splash Water Park. Historic downtowns of Jensen Beach and Stuart provide many additional off-island dining and entertainment options. Public airports are Palm Beach International (60 minutes), Fort Lauderdale (1.5 hours), Miami (2 hours) and Orlando (2 hours).
Groceries -- There are two grocery stores close by (both Publix). One is located at the south end of the Island (by Stuart Beach) and the other is located west of the railroad tracks near downtown Jensen Beach.
Things to Do:
Jammin’ Jensen - located in downtown Jensen Beach every Thursday evening, featuring local artists displaying their goods, music etc.
Florida Oceanographic - Florida Oceanographic Coastal Center is a 57-acre marine life nature center that is an amazing place for all ages. Enjoy petting stingrays and learning about our sea turtles and other marine life in the estuary. Fully interactive museum with a HUGE salt water lagoon featuring sharks and all types of fish that we have swimming in our estuaries and oceans.
Elliott Museum - Antique car, boat and truck displays. Has the second-largest signed baseball memorabilia collection in the world.
House of Refuge - The House of Refuge at Gilbert’s Bar is the only remaining House of Refuge. Built as one of nine along the east coast of Florida, it is the oldest structure in Martin County and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
